Australian manufacturers make boards equal to and better than OS makers, it's just that they don't have "the name" but built for our conditions..

Simple easy fix is buy local...

But I'll ask a guy who has done it several times and let you know.

Bang on Jimmy give that man a cigar & Monica with it

I'd still love a BING or ALMOND one day sure probably made the same quality as a Mct but I would still love one.

Bings have been imported to Oz for years. Heaps around Newcastle. The importer lives near here.

And Almonds are imported too.

Yeah I know my comment was I'd still love one of those US boards even though you can buy a local product.

The Bing's are really really nice.. Well made.

And I was eyeing of an Almond for a while but ended up with a different US board I'd wanted for years.

Just do it.. Change is as good as a holiday. How's the knee going? You got some movement back?

Yeah I love the cut laps they do, the tints are amazing.
I was going to PM you about the number of boards, question was, how many is too many,I have 2 that are stunning and I havent surfed them in a year both new.I just keep surfing my favourite. The knee has come along however I've been training it hard of advice and it pulls up sore and if I walk a long distance it flares up as well but I think its good to go surfing again just working on the elbow at the moment.
Hows your knee SP,post operation,I'm thinking of getting a Plasma injection the Doc thinks they are well worth a try.

Im not the right person to ask about LB quivers.
I have bought 4 in 10 - 15 years and try and keep it pretty simple.

I ride a volumed up HP which is pretty much an all rounder 90% of the time. I change the fins a bit. If its smaller I use a single, if it's sucky or bigger it's a 2+1. It's 9'1x 22.75 x 2.75.

Besides that I have an old 9'4 x 22.25 Wegener Joker that I use as a loggy type board when it's waist highish and above. You could do a lot worse than buying one of them. They are a great board.

Then a 10ft x 23 heavy as Model T Tak for small days. Although I do ride it occasionally when it is bigger and crowded.
Finally I have Old mal that doesn't get ridden.

That's the mal quiver then I have a rack full of fishes and mids from 5'9 to 7'5 that get used a just as much as any if the Lbs.

Knee is coming along. The meniscus bit is fine the other stuff I had done was the long recovery bit. I'd say it's 95%. Heaps better then what it was no pain just a bit weak.

I've imported a Bing in the past. Did it when the US/AUS Dollar was on parity about 5-6 years ago.

The trick is to find a couple of people who want to purchase a board also and place two or three boards into one shipping box. Therefore, all purchasers share the freight costs etc two or three ways.

So for interests sake I had a 7'6" Bing Bonzer custom built by Matt Calvani and it was delivered to Sydney in a box containing three boards. The cost from memory was around AU$850 all up plus another $120 freight from Sydney to regional South Oz.
Super good quality board, still have it - never getting rid of it...

On a different note - placed a custom order for an 11' Christenson Chris Craft early 2016 when Chris did a shaping stint here in Oz for the first time in 2016. I was quoted $1,400 so I jumped at it - thought to myself "Gee, that's cheap"!!! Anyway, they misquoted me in US Dollars but upon payment honored the price in AUS Dollars. HUGE SAVING but one of those moments I took advantage of upon the initial quote that was presented to me. Think the RRP is about AUS$2,400 for an 11' Chris Craft...

Great idea on the freight.
Did you get your Cris craft through Onboard?

Thats a bloody cracking deal. Should have ordered 2
How's does it go?

I have a 7'4 Christenson C bucket. It's a great board, it's the second one I've had this year but that's another story I won't go into.

I thought about springing the cash for another one at the time - 12' range perhaps...

Yeah Onboard in Sydney and picked it up from Rhino Glassing on my way through back to SA.
OK, so my thoughts on the Chris Craft. Great length for the bigger stuff but would definitely go longer for the smaller stuff, hence a 12' if I had the opportunity. The width is quite narrow and on first paddle/ride found it quite tippy (sitting on an 11' board that's only 22 wide) but quickly got used to that and now not a problem for me. Chris puts a lot of work into the rails and bottom of these boards - probably why they go so well. I added FCSII side bite plugs for my order and use very small DVS side bites in it for extra drive coming out of turns in bigger waves. Still messing with finding the right sized single fin. Currently using a 9" CC fin but I think it's too big for a "glider" style board. Have found an 8" wide base fin with flex tip probably the best suit. Trims perfectly, turns easily from the middle to the back. I ordered the board with wet-rub finish - got it home and hated it as it would get dirty easily. Got a local shaper to gloss coat it for me and it was the best thing I ever did. Added more weight which I prefer and now shines like a baby butt.

Cheers. They are on my want list and yeah lot of work in the rails and bottom. Agree that is why they probably perform good. Glad to hear you went sides. IMO most boards are better with them just gives that extra bit of zip.

I use Clearwater 2+1 fins in my CC and can't fault them. The Joel Tudor fin in 8.5 is also a good option in a 2+1. Pretty narrow base but great for helping it pivot in a pretty short radius.

The Christenson fin in 7.5 is also a great fin.

I only bought it a year or 2 ago, just popped on Gumtree cheap and always wanted on so snapped it up. Has a few ding but still surfs great.

It's 9'4x 22.25 joker so pretty narrow.
Has glassed in sides and a fin box not really a true log but a nice board.

Yeah good for the waves we get around here which are mainly beach breaks.
It's a bit Tak like in the rails. Overall it's a good allround log type board, you could ride it anything from tiny to as big as your keen to ride it in..

The wooden tail and nose blocks are works of art as are the fins.

The tail you can see in the background is a 6ft old 70s style single.

Nice shape. Looks like a good board for beach breaks

That is different. Good pickup

Going back many years now SA and I shared the love of a Model A or Z (I think) build quality was brilliant but I couldn't get the hang of the fin so far back

Thats a nice board SB. I guess you'd have to get way back on the tail to pivot turn it. Lots of walking

oooooooo geez mate .... I blame the Obelisk .... apparently Roads & Maritime discovered that what was left of the Obelisk's mobile mudslide was still quite volcanic ... it broke quarantine lines near Nambucca & has wiped out an entire colony of Fruitbats .... poor little leathery night flappers stood no chance as it had mutated into a putrid smelly road tar-like ooze that can now climb trees
