a man tries to get away from mac and cobra the best way he knows
a shortboard thread , but still they come
Hey LL,
How'd that LSD twinny go?
Still got it?
Ended up be too much vol in that lenght for me at my weight to control it. Being eps exopy didnt help either.
went well but the take off were kiling me
I made a mistake is all I can say.
Just got home from dwing in moreton bay
Err, too old can't recall the size you had?
Did it have any flashes of brilliance despite the over sizing or was it a dog?
I just love fishes and twinnies...
For me the largest one is at the lower end of my foam comfort range.
Sigh!

6.2 buddy. Yeah it could fly along a wave. 38 lts too.
suit a heavy guy for sure
Funny though when i would do a hard reo or cuttie in the pocket the nose and tail would sort of catch.
I laid it out on the ground its a flat kind of rocker.
Made me realise looking at my favourite boards they have a reasonable amount![]()
I surfed one of my favourite twinnies yesterday and struggled. It's been a year since I surfed it as I revamped the quiver. Going from the big midlengths and longboard to a 5'10 had me struggling to catch them, then once I nutted out having to be later in the take off (well I knew it, but getting the positioning right took a a couple of missed waves), I then struggled to not wobble in the take off and drive off the bottom on rail. I went and swapped over to a longer board.
Oh the indignity of admitting that to other twinny lovers. I will get back on that horse soon though.

Remember what Burt Berger had to say about rocker and different surfers/surfing style in his videos?
Ive got a flat rockered fish that i had M5s in it and thought it went pretty well until I put in a set of MR twins with trailer, the difference was amazing heaps more drive and much smoother through turns as the extra speed from the drive gives it a really controlled looseness without being twitchy, its an old board with a new lease of life,i always try different fins as the changes they create can never be underestimated and that goes for longboards as well, rather than getting a new board play around with your fins first, you'll be pleasantly surprised

Thought about a long fish? Josh hall/skip fry style
Anyone have any experience with Controller fins.
I own a Few short fat wide arse boards i am trying to sort out a decent fin set up.
Heard good things bout the controller but looking for others opinions.
Any other suggestions for suitable fins would be good to.
Boards are getting surfed in mainly average beach break and shore break type waves.
Thanks

Have you tried the DVS quad fins....I was never really a fan of quads until I got these
Yeah i have looked at them before.
Do you mean the Keels or the Others

The controllers work well but do surf a bit too laterally.
If you want to surf more vetrically then I've found the Futures AMT twins or if using fcs the True Ames CI twins (same fins different names) teamed up with the controller rears (Indo version for fcs) work so much better.
You've got the wide base with an upright template and a narrow tip in the front fins with a great combo of drive and release and then an upright rear which make the board a lot looser off the tail.
I turned a lot of sweet and baked potato riders onto this combo and plenty have used it in boards like pier pony's and Lost couch potatoes and similar with great results.

I use them in my SP and find them super lose. Everyone who has tried them agrees..Love em and i have yet to find a better match..
Thats about as technical as i can get sorry
I put the MR fins in the fish this morning and it goes goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood as a twinnie

Thanks cf, great reply.
I had s9s in the front and some KS trailers but found it hard to turn. I'm a bit of a lightweight so thinking twins might be even harder.
Controller from indo is looking like the first option then maybe DVS
You Haven't used the DVS keels by any chance?
I've used them in plenty of boards.
In wide tailed boards such as the McT scooter I've found that they hold in until they release and the release can be abrupt.
I was in a solid barrel on the scooter and the tail slid out all of a sudden and I faceplanted into the deck. Never trusted them after that.
Found on similar wide tailed boards they would start letting go about the 4' mark. On sub 4'ers no problem.
They are a fin set that can feel good in certain boards but often I will find a different set that feels just a little better.
Used them for quite a while in my Takayama scorpion and also my DVS wasp quad fish.
I have a lot of ecclectic shortboard fins btw.
When I find time I'll get them out for a fin quiver shot.
The S9's and KS trailers would be far too much rear fin area imho. A set of gxq's or DVS sharktooths like you see in my cv2 would be a much looser option.

Cheers CF, great reply, makes sense.
I just got a set of split keels. Hopefully problem solved.
Those small DVS trailer/ side bites look good.
to SP and CF will the DVD's of KS go into a VCR i also have a LG and NEC DVD player that will take a DVD and VCR
i prefer DVD's of KS in a PC.
na mate wont work. I'd just keep running the THC with KFC, CCs, VB and STDs..![]()
But I have never been so confused about fins as with quads, I gave up in the end and bought what the bloke in the shop said.. ![]()

i only have one word for you.
Nubster
Confession time and need advice.
My dhd switch blade just feels a little short and not quite enough rocker and volume. Ever since ive been a kid, ive always surfed 6.2 s.
I cant find a semi hybrid performance 6.2 with about 35 lts so I dropped in to sdr and have ordered a monkey chip. 6.2.
I know some will say your over volumed at 73 kgs but it feels right and after mals and 666.s its ok. Pre 666 days I would have freaked out at a board that size. One must consider the daily gold coast battle for waves too
Anyway it generally comes as a sq tail. More versatile sdr reckons but I cant get my head around a sq tail I fear the squirrel.
I said ill go him halfs.
A diamond tail.
What do you reckon![]()
Remember support your local shaper.
Long boards dont matter![]()
Lacey shut up for once and go with the shapers advice, if it worked better as a diamond tail it would be stock on the model, stop over thinking your doing my head in again ![]()
