Hi,
Hope you like the new forums - should be faster, cleaner, more reliable, better formatting, and .. .more shiny!
Any confusion/dramas, ask here, and will answer/explain/... ![]()
Seems nice!
The only drawback I see is that the "time of last visit" is now too strict. It is reset by going to any page of the site, so the site counted as my last visit the visit to the main site page, losing the information on what I already read even though I didn't look at any forum post yet.
Before you had some "grace period" of some minutes before the site considered it a proper visit.
Suggestions to fix:
- only consider as "last visit" the actual reading of a forum post. Not browsing other parts of the site, or reading private messages, etc... For instance I do not want to lose my last visit info by just clicking on an email notification of a PM
- have some grace delay. Do not "validate" a visit as "last visit time" before some minutes (10?)
- have an history of lasts visits somewhere, where we can click on one and say "now this is my last visit, forget the most recent ones"
- ...
Another suggestion: This wasn't in the previous version: a way to have a link (a "permalink") to a specific post, so we can refer to it.
It was totally impossible in the previous version, but the info is now available in the html of the page, what is lacking is just a way to get it without resorting to viewing the source if the page. For instance, it is the #4 of:
www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Stand-Up-Paddle/Review/Infinity-Blackfish-or-Whiplash?page=1#4
That allows to refer to the 4th post of the page.
In the source code it is meaning the post can be adressed by #4 or #2036385 (the latter may be better as it may stay the same if posts are deleted)

Glad you like Colas, thanks for saying so.![]()
Interesting about the last visit - is this because you're using the "Active Topics" bit, and that's where it's affecting you?

Again, an interesting insight .. shall see can be done. Thanks for all the details, makes it easy. ![]()
Is the old version completely gone?
This new one's not working very well for me..
Oh no! ![]()
Can you share what not working very well Dave and we'll get it sorted. Any details or specifics will make it easy to fix.
How do you see who has posted originally and see their avatar?
Easy .. click the "Compact" / "Detailed" button at the top of the topic list. ![]()
Please bring back the old version or make it available so we have a choose ?:-)
Sorry, no can do. The tech used to build it got retired 10 years ago, so it's been totally rebuilt!
But .. most challenges now are visual layout things, so if you're able to detail what's specifically bugging you .. i.e. what's missing, whats not working, then the problems can be looked into & adjusted.
Let me know... ![]()
Loading multiple photos is much quicker and easier which is a huge improvement on the old version, they did not load upside down either, yeah!!!!
Time since last post seems a bit wrong.
My 82 minute old post stayed at the top, with 3 minute posts below
Pasting a screen shot didn't work.
Photos seemed to load in correct order,
You have upgraded something we get for free, without us paying, so well done.
Interesting about the last visit - is this because you're using the "Active Topics" bit, and that's where it's affecting you?
Yup, I read the breeze once daily, and go directly to "Active Topics".
So the first time I encountered the new version of the site, the URL had changed, so it redirected me to a landing page, and this has resetted the time of last visit.
I must say that now that I have bookmarked the new "Active Topics" page, things seems OK, except that I cannot specify I want only the SUP sections in the URL (something like .../ActiveTopics?forums=SUP ?), it seems this info is encoded in the cookie. But that is a minor problem.

Oops, some info disappeared.
The permalink info is in the A elements, under the ID attribute (it could also be a NAME attribute):
a id="4"
or
a id="2036385"
It looks good, but like anything will take some time to get used to.
In the classifieds section, would be good if you could click on the main title of a category (i.e. Stand Up Paddle) and it revealed all Stand Up Classifieds. At the moment, you need to click on any one of the sub-categories to get into the old classified format then select "Stand Up Paddle" to get all of the SUP listings. Not a biggie, but would be an improvement.

Agreed, I found this the other day .. click on it, and nothing happening - it's on the list.
I did find an easy workaround .. just to the left (on desktop view, anyway), there are the filters .. just click the sport name in there (just above the sub-categories) ... = same result/effect? ![]()

And it seems to work quite well, actually:
- I browsed the breeze with my morning coffee
- ~ 5 hours afterwards, I received an email notification of a PM. Clicked on the link, went to read the email
- then checked the "Active Topics" page, and the time of my last visit wasnt changed by my reading the PM! nice!
There was an error that was fixed - it affected graphs reverse colours, weather favourites and .. Active Topics. ![]()

One improvement I have noticed, when hovering over the arrows on the weather observations using a Windows phone it was always difficult to get the observations to appear as text - it would always be dominated by the "copy / save / share" type options.
Not sure if it was all mobile platforms but it was incredibly frustrating, works perfectly with the new site.
Hi Laurie
One thing I haven't seen on the new format is "number of views"
I am always interested in what topics draw the most interest daily... but also over time.
Total number of views, over time, is a great indicator of how a topic hold interest and how much it is revisited.
Since few viewers actually reply to any topic, "total views" is the only tracker of thread value

Click the button toppish right that probably says "Compact"
It will change to "Detailed, and you can see how many reads

Great!! An embarressingly large amount of time was consumed in making the hover box work reliably across at least 40 combinations of browsers & devices, as well as extra effort to make work on IE 7 through 11. Each browser does things a little differently .. when one works, it breaks another .. and around again it goes! Painful at times, but got there (mostly) in the end... ![]()
And it seems to work quite well, actually:
Arg, no... we now have the opposite bug :-)
In the www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/ActiveTopics page, my "Last Visit" is still stuck to Monday...

Try now .. because ...
.. an upgrade just put through.
1) Nobody mentioned that the "Compact/Detailed" setting was lost everytime you returned to the site?! Must have been annoying if you had to press "Detailed" every time...
2) Layout for desktop/mobile upgrade to a what (hopefully) is a better design?
3) Posting .. the "Add Photo" links to under the "Post" button, as they are used much less - makes it better for mobiles - less scrolling to hit the "post" button
4) Shrunk the New Post entry box on mobile, again, to save on scrolling
5) Added the "New" indicator to show posts that are new since your last visit.
6) .. and some other nifty stuff.
Thanks to all for the feedback so far, I do believe we're getting there...![]()
