I pinch the railsaver or leg rope between thumb and index finger, most of the time I can hold the board in place.
You mean, because that's the only two finger you still have after years of grabbing the railsaver? :=)
Yeah, gruesome pictures on the front page, unfortunately I have seen similar many times before in the workplace and know, when working with ropes and cables that may suddenly come under load, that you dont put your hand or fingers through a loop or "bite" as we call it.
I have all my fingers so far and thats because I pinch ropes rather than let them cross my palm, learnt on the job, 35 years ago.
You ought to see the damage a wedding ring will do if it gets caught, or have to clean up the blood and gore after the screaming victim goes off to the doc's. Makes one very cautious
Waves at my local are small, most of the time I can sink the tail and pull the board through the foam using the pinch grip and when it slips the only downside is a few seconds lost, not a finger down to the knuckle.
