It is the idea of Michael Jenkins, a proud surfer for hundreds of years (carbon dating) he had a dream (thought) at least 10 years back to introduce the idea of a standard length 10', 9' for Bali due to length restrictions on planes. Why Longboards? MJ can give the complete answer as I may be speaking out of turn.

Haha Mick yep a surfer for @60 years.
mmmm why longboards? Because back in the olden days of early sup having been a longboarder there was no real performance "longboard sups" available they were just big boards for the bigger crew so in short, the answer to the question why longboards? Well it's commonsense really, prone surfing has short and longboards so why not sup? Also included in the answer is I could see the potential to have standalone surfing events that included both sup styles so the future of the sup surfing sport is guaranteed. All the passion and work to establish a far reaching and successful longboard sup community over the years has meant the category is now represented at local clubs,at both State and National Titles and the movement is growing worldwide. .The APP World tour is including a World Title event series in the category too and we now have the Cosmic Experience longboard sup event in Bali where the worldwide longboard sup community come and surf together. Whoever would have thought a simple idea all those years ago could have produced so many benefits.
why the Longboard sup Revolution name? Back in the olden days, late 60's, there was a Shortboard revolution movement where the design of surfboards went long to short so the LSR is the opposite of that movement where now the longboard sup rules...
that's the short answer Mick:-)

So just clarifying there will or won't be short board SUP surfing at Bali

LSR Cosmic Experience was held a few weeks ago, a great time was had by all the crew, we scored two days of terrific waves for the comp and everyone got some special surfing in before and after the event. winners are
Mens Elite Category Benoit Carpentier
Womens Elite Category Ke'ale Dorries
Mens Elite Weekend Warriors Andrew Cassidy
Mens Weekend Warriors Anthony Smith
Womens Weekend Warriors Tashka Goswell

Superb surfing by all the crew, the final's winner could have been any of the finalists as the depth of talent at the comp was an all time high.
Many thanks to all our Cosmic sponsors for both the raffle and the event.
The dates for the 2026 LSR Cosmic Experience is the 2nd - 6th April, held over the Easter break.
See you there

Thanks Rick, yep thanks for taking the time to comment, we love feedback considering so much effort goes into doing the comp, most folks stay silent so your comment is much appreciated.

Thanks Tardy, yes it was indeed, very special and unique in every way.
by the way I forgot to add the 0/60's winner to the list funny that . I fought so hard to get it as an accepted category at Surf Oz too.. hahaha

the winner of the 60's Cosmic is Dave Sheen who surfed so incredibly well, Jamie Ralston 2nd, Shane Lynch 3rd and me 4th.
youngest surfer was 17 and the oldest is 74, what a sport we have where all ages are embraced and included in comps, so much so an 0/70's category should be included from here on in and celebrated.
