Waay better checking angle on the prone surfing girlys paddling by
try to get such a view when laying on your belly.
Serious:
I don,t like Rasta colours and music., this is exactly the same: Its just a different discipline/sport. Why bother?
I see SB surfers talking the same way about the Fishes and longboarders.
When i,m paddling my ass of on a raceboard the canoe guys don,t understand why I don,t grab a canoe as the paddle a lot faster with less effort.
As a wavesailor I often don,t really understand the fun of lightwind course-racing and those guy wonder what all that fuss about when we slog out and wigle back on a wave while all windsurfers of us don,t like the kiters who ride twintips.....
Trying but not always working: try to respect everybody playing in the water on its own level and with his/hers own toys of choice.
As long as they won,t hold you really back....let everybody have fun on his way.
The question, at least, that's how I see it, was Sandsy 1 asking.
The fact that he doesn't understand, doesnt mean, you have to explain your reason for shortboarding.
If he's riding longer and having a ball, than all good, have fun
Don't defend, your choice, where we live, your free to make one

Hi Sandsy1, actually can be the reason to jump on a 7'26" is not a showing off. I'm not making any proselytizing about, finally it's not too bad that people doesn't realize that a large new area of freedom has been discover, happy to be out the crowd for a while...IMO, i love doing shortSUP because it's like short boarding paddling with whole body stenght allowing speed to enter the wave faster as you ever done paddling prone position.
Because every day has something new to learn about shortSUP, One of last reason i discover recently to go under or around 7'5" 26" tomo style is the fact those dimensions allows moves you usually do on a shortboard . If you ever jump on that kind of shortsUP, you may feel like your 6' sb. IMO the more important feeling is the fact i'm using my front foot with upper body enhancement to do reentry maneuvers. Over 7' long you cant do that, riding with both foot on the tail or rear part of board
.
Also, l love taking off late already stood up with rush and speed which allow to magnified even a weak wave , make me feel like i was taking off from the skateboard ramp coping.
Here on Seabreeze, I' m very glad to meet the people who develops that kind of shape. thanks mates![]()
This morning, there was a surprise swell (6ft at the buoy), so I took my powerful wave 6'10"
I had a blast, why? because it is 120l for my 100kg (as you can see it floats me, and at 30" wide this is not a toothpick), and thus the power it gets from the wave has nothing to do with the prone surfboard!
This is the difference: the volume. Prone surfers do not realize how much more power and speed you get from the wave with more board volume. The trick is the paddle allows us to harness this power: the result: insane fun.
I was alone, making sections, carving rollers all other the place... and was joined by a prone surfer. He just get caught in the foam and didnt manage to do more than just struggling to keep with the shoulder, as he was bogged down because of the low volume of his board (although near 7'), on these 7s period waves (and also he was not as well placed as me, as I was able to see the waves coming better). Granted, Kelly Slater I am sure would have outshined me even on a toothstick. But I am not Kelly Slater, and nor nearly all the prone surfers I see at my location.
Later, the waves backed down, I took my 6'8" fish-like SUP. And yesterday I had a blast on my mini-simmons 6'10" SUP.
So, why do you want me to leave 6'10" SUP where I have insane fun exploiting the wave to the max, and take a prone shortboard where I will just grovel in the foam?
PS: Not everybody likes ShortSUP, and it is OK. A lot of people will have much more fun on a 8' or 9' board. But the idea that a ShortSUP is like a prone Shortboard is ridiculous.
PS: on the aesthetics, SUP is not so bad

To begin with, I was just stoked on being able to surf a few set-ups that could previously only be mind surfed.
Being able to surf waves with nobody else was magic!
Now, aside for the occasional session on my 6'3 surfboard, I tend to SUP because it's more fun, I get more waves, I can surf without as much stress and hassle as when on a short board, and come out with a bigger smile.
Needless to say, I'm surfing a 9'6 Prowave, so not a very small board by today's standards!
I've got a few different size/shape shortboards, a few different size/shape longboards & a few different size/shape SUPs. I ride any of them, depending on the ambience of the day & what I wish to achieve.
I'm not brand dependant.
Nice thread Sandsy...

Someone got the point. It's only my two bobs worth.
It's not what you ride, it's who's having the most fun!!!!![]()

Ditto.
I think you longboarders should help build me my Zen board ..... I want perfect rails with a healthy HP carve and bottom concaves that will scorch a path through the hordes at Little Marley and a nose that will sniff out & point me at the wickedest sets ..... I am lost and need to be found

well your going to need a 906 at least for that pup,not a shortboard![]()
I don't get why people buy Harleys. Compared to any other bike they don't go, the don't stop, they don't turn. The seat, the sit up & beg position, and the vibrations aren't comfortable for more than a few minutes, you look silly with a full face helmet on one so you have to have an open faced helmet, then you eat bugs so you get one of those skeleton bug stopper half mask things, so then you end up looking like a wanna be tough guy and your face is still open to getting grated if you come off. You're on a bike that's only really good for making noise for the sake of making noise, and I've heard tractors that sound better. And don't even get me started on leather tassels.
Despite all that, people buy them.
^^i also don't get it.
+i don't get why people buy Jap bikes.. they go way to fast for AUS roads or speed limits. the seat is setup in the receiving position.they are made out of plastic and aluminium. uncomfortable to ride"who likes sitting on your nut sack for more than 1min. they sound like a squadron of mosquitos. riders dress like wanna be rossie or stoner.
like those ridicules elbow pads and pants like they just backed one into.
and don't get me started on the lovely color coordinated leathers.

I'm with you Sandsy!!!!!!!
All you gay dishpanners suck!!!!!
Bahahaha!!!!!
Your almost their Lacey, you'll soon be the complete longboarder

When he can walk the plank without shuffling like a total utter kook... He will have transformed.... Until then ...Lacey should have a big mirror in front of himself...
Case closed!!!!
Ok.i was having a bit of fun but a few are getting up tight so I deleted a couple.
However I will stick by my point that when your under water barely hanging in there- what is the point. What is the function. Whats practical about it. Why not just grab a surfboard
Anyway if thats your digs go for it![]()

But kami its good surfing. All surfing develops from good technique. not from surfing the shortest board you can stand on.
Every time mick fanning has come back from injury he surfs a mini mal.
Steph surfs a mal at coolie![]()

Yes Lacey, TC shows a good long boarding technique which is different of the short one as mick fanning is doing mal and forget the short as well for a while. They both don't shortboard in those cases.
Sure shortSUP are paddling instable but i like it because it's sticking or closer to the curl. This is made for surfing nor there stand up paddling![]()
