For 90% of us, renting/demoing is not an option. And besides, if you are choosing a board near your limits, one demo session in whatever the conditions happen to be at the time is not a 100% indicator of how it will perform for you longer term.
Why is this the case?
You borrow a board for the weekend.
Take it to your fave spot, fit your fave fins and ride your fave wave.
Agreed most "demo days" have less than suitable conditions but doing your own, is a sure win.

Sure that some demos are useful to meet acquaintance with an unknow board but like at database rendez vous, it needs some long time to know if she is the one of your life.![]()
Joke apart, trying a new board is a time investment, take more time than a WE to know what there is inside.

Sure, if you had it for the entire weekend and could surf a few sessions, and the surf conditions cooperated, you would certainly get an idea if it was wrong for you. But as I have tried to push my limits, I find it takes a few sessions to begin to understand the dynamics of a board - where to put your feet when paddling out, where to move your feet when turning, how to get through whitewash, how it will respond, etc. I can't remember any of my boards (where I was pushing my limits) where it was love at first sight. It has often been the opposite.
Quite right, there lies the question where 100 litres and Aprox 90kg as a example is hard work 99 percent of the time
There for a 90kg x 1.2 I would believe is the base limit but adds a little extra for gear
= 108/110
Or a one board quiver
90kg x 1.3 = 117
Was a bloke in Bali only got up to paddle into a wave, I've not seen that before or since, I mean why not just prone surf a more high performance standard surfboard ?

FWIW I think, for some people, being able to jump to your feet once you have caught the wave, right at the critical time, is an issue: skill related or back/injury related. How you get to your feet so that you start paddling is a different matter.
I have seen people do and it freaks me out. One minute it looks like they aren't going for the wave and then suddenly they are up and paddling.

It feels like taking off from a ramp edge. That the same feeling and this is why low liters will be always a young way. More longtime as possible to me.
I went for my first paddle this morning in 6 weeks due to work /injury, very little exercise in that 6 weeks, I 've gained about 6kg right at the belly button.
My board felt like it had a mind of its own - very rusty, but still bootiful in the water crystal clear
