I believe that you can get a custom SUP from Bert Burger at Sunova.... which is an Aussie company, with a factory in Thailand.

Full custom..... and it can be built exactly the same way all Sunova XXX Tech SUP's are.

World class shaper, very light, very tough and they are some of the most affordable SUP's out there.

The old this is better than that tit for tat again hey.
Buy what you can afford and suits your needs, work at improving your skills and put in as much water time as you can. Soon there will be no difference between high end and low end because your skill set will surpass the equipment you are riding.
For example Lord Laird could
Make a fridge door look awesome.
Yes there are differences in equipment for the dollars but don't be disheartened if you can't buy top shelf, work hard and enjoy what you do.
Just my thoughts.

To the locally made guys who have substained the high AU,you are about to get rewarded with a mass of custom orders.
History will show when the AU is around 70 cent to the US manufacturing in Australia starts to tick along.Gerry Harvey
predicted this 6 months ago on ACA,he basically stated the cost of goods sold in his stores would rise 30 or so %.

I don,t know how its gonna be in Australia, but here in Europe we are been hit pretty hard as well and with windsurf equipment I see the custom builders rising there price as well because its insane that a good custom is more expensive as an production board.

I disagree.

Sunova's new 2016 pricing has it catching the other large brands in pricing. Sunova boards are just about in the same price point as the JPs, Naish etc etc. Whereas it was I can get a custom or a Sunova for about the same price…it is now I can get a custom or pay more and choose a Naish, JP, Sunova etc etc

Sorry. I should've been more specific. 45 minutes from Bondi to the Shire.... Which is kinda like Sydney.

I've recently bought two customs from Mick Slatery who owns Surefire SUP. As most Breezers know i've owned a fleet of boards since starting this sport. I can honestly say that the two Mick has done for me are the best i've ever ridden hands down!!! I know its very much a gamble when you go custom. You may end up out for your first session thinking "Oh dear.... what have I done?!?!" But my mind was actually thinking "WOW!!! Why didn't I do this years ago?!?!" I think as long as you have a vague idea what size and shape you're after, then a good shaper will nail it for you.

I'll be doing a vid with Mick and another mate some time soon to show off Micks goodies so stay tuned.

Anyone want his number?

It's easy as mate. Just blow up a balloon and draw an ugly face on it with some dribble hanging out the side of its mouth, then sticky tape it to my right shoulder. Look just like a local then.

Yes that would be right but no one in Aus can manufacture them they have to send them offshore even custom boards, or is delamination of cheap sups a myth?
Either way they are made for a market that is willing to pay and the cheap ones are for another market as are middle of the range, it's no different to a Ferrari vs a Hyundai.

Are you saying no one in Oz can build a custom sup?

He's in Vic.. There's none that I know of in Melbourne.. One that I know of on the east coast and one that I know of on the west coast.. and they don't make many so it's a little risky..It's not quite like the Goldie..

It's Queensland, not Mars!
You can fly there in two hours or drive there in two days.
I'm talking to a custom builder on Gold Coast at the moment, no barrier to getting one built.
Also going custom makes you try to understand why / what you are building / buying, have some input to the shape, even if you have very limited knowledge.
And choose your colours / artwork.

By the same token, you can fly to China in a few hours and get a custom made if you really want. And they are more likely to speak a language you understand.

"God's Country" ShireSUP???? , There are a lot of very interesting people on the Breeze but if you think" The Shire" is God's Country your either worshipping some wacko God or your the weirdest contribtor on Sea Breeze.

Love it. We'll have to stop you at the Spit Bridge Shire SUP. You certainly spend heaps of time up North for someone so confused.

Mick at Surefire Boards draws on his surfing background and applies it to SUP's. I have had a few people comment when I am walking
up the beach about how good my board looks (shape and Carbon Innegra bottom). Too bad they don't complement me on my surfing ability or physique. One out of three is OK.

Yes.. Very, very close to 9'..

It surfs great for a board that cost about half as much.. It's slightly more fragile and wouldn't have the same resale ease to sell or value of a Naish for those who can't afford big brand boards there is always.. Always has been.. and always will be the cheaper custom board option.. If it gets you on the water I reckon go for it.. Remember the big brands do have cheaper options.. They're not all very expensive..

I don't think comparing SUP boards to a Bicycle is fair comparison.

Bicycles have a larger markup than SUP's and those examples are extremely high end equipment..

Bicycles have many many mechanical parts to them that are costly to produce and assemble, a board on the other hand doesn't and that's why the comparing them is a invalid argument..

Ha Ha, Good point.
