January 20/21st 2018 Redhead beach NSW. Lake Macquarie festival of surfing as part of Surfest. ECS Boards Australia is the sponsor for this event putting in a total of $23000 !! Split over an elite (anyone who's competed at Aussies or internationally in the past 12 months) bop men and women, open men's/ women.

mixed over 10' divisions.

Please note you can only enter one surf division & one race division.

$60 entry per division

That crosses out pretty much everyone from QLD. Don't know if anyone even owns a 12'6 board anymore.

12'6 has always been the bop board until recent times. This year is 12'6 same as Aussie and state titles.

12'6 is defiently the way to go for BOP.

i think everyone is more than happy to support it but the problem is just not as many people have 12'6 boards anymore so no point turning up with a 14 and not been able to race seems a little silly.
It has nothing to do with the race it is just a fact that over the last few years people have got rid of there 12'6 boards. I have heard that most shops don't even sell them anymore unless special ordered.

If the race wants to run 12'6 thats cool and i am sure some people will scrape up a board from somewhere to go in it but it just seems a shame that maybe more could have entered if it was up to 14ft so no one is excluded. Just look at the Aussies for example and all the boards where like one or 2 years old beside the top 2 or 3 guys.

I know from all the crew who paddle here who would like to have a look at this race that 12'6 rules them out as they just don't have a board of that size anymore.
At ONE SUP we have 1 x 12'6 board in Aus so this pretty much rules all us out straight away.


Please don't take this as negative against this event but maybe more just a fact of where the sport is right now in this country. If it was 14ft and under we would 100% look at supporting it as it sounds like a great weekend!!

Please Pohaku can't you change the rules, I only have an 8' surf sup and would really like to race. It would be unfair for everyone else to be on 12'6" boards so make it maximum 8'. No one else in Victoria has boards bigger than 8' either.

and by the way all you Queenlanders, if you want a good board, then go and see simon at the Deep Factory in Burliegh he has a Heap of the NEW Deep Riot 12'6's that Lincoln Dews absolutely smashed everyone in the Tech Race at the Oz Titles a few days ago.

by far the fastest boards on the planet!!!!!!

I don't think any 12'6"s have been sold in NSW retail shops this year so I've got an old 2015 12'6" I'm happy to hire out for $500 for the day..
