Similar to the Acid where you can hit the brakes and reduce speed when you get your rear foot and weight back
Flicked an email to Dylan and he replied almost straight away. Turns out they already had a 8'5 x 30 115L mocked up for someone else as well.
Decision making time!
Is that how the placid rails are stepped like that? You would that it would be fairly stable being like that.

the placid rails are just well rounded ..more rounded than that ,more like the insane if you have seen one of those .up close .thats more like the wedge ...those rails are gonna bite ...but be subtle ..
great looking shape ..
.at least going custom ,you get what you want ...and the flows are great boards ..probably even better now .![]()

The rails look really interesting. Similar to the infinitys you see with the stepped rails. Would make them super thin that's for sure.
I think I'll have to open up my piggy bank and get something organised. Make it all blue and it can be my Smurf 2.0. The 8'10 was a fun board just a bit too big in most cases.
Hey Tardy, when you say 'round' rails do you 'thin'? Like the opposite shape of a more square, high walled 'boxy' rail? Different to the step type rail in the placid?
my blue plant ninja star has the lowest rails on a sup I've seen. The back half is legit like a shortboard thickness and sinks deep in the water. I wouldn't say they're rounded, but just a really low and thin profile with a downturned edge at the bottom.
i cant wait to see your new board! Looks epic

well kinda both..thinned and rounded ...mosts of the sunova pro models are quite thinned rails ,very simular to the flash ,but more taken off the bottom side ,its kinda like they took a planer and took the bottom part of the rail off ..like no sharp rail at all ,works well though ...nugdams picture of the flow rail . ,this is really pulled down ..gonna be good to see how it works ...its gonna have a nice bite on the wave ..be great for bottom hand turns ![]()
blue is nice ,gloss or semi .gloss ...nugdam ?.
my piggy bank is slowly building ..its been tough with this virus
Can't wait to get mine, less than 5 weeks now if Fremantle Customs play nice. I'll post pics up as soon as it arrives. Dropped future box's in mine as well ????
nice one Rossall ...can't wait to see it ..yes more choice with future fins
I walked into that shop last november and ran into Tino ..after that i brought a placid .over east .![]()
it was good to pick up all the boards and check them out ..I got to look at the first delivery .it scary walking into shops like that ..$$ gone .
I left WA with 46 kgs of luggage..but all good water stuff .
come on 5 weeks .
Ooo I see you're right, that 8'0 would be exactly what I found was lacking in my 8'0 flash. Same style of performance but just a touch more user friendly-ness!
although then I see the 8'3 flash and then it would be a tough choice which would be a better single quiver board hah!
Something to think about for anyone wondering about sizing.
The originals carried more thickness out to the rail so there was a flatter deck or standing area, meaning there was more volume at the rail line.. This keeps the rail out of the water but makes it a little more bulky and buoyant and more reactive to wind and chops. The new design with more deck roll and lower rails should be inherently more stable as the rails will sit below the surface if you're riding a volume close to your weight like you would be..
Yes I heard from Marcus that the demo/pre production test Casey Flow they had was stable for its size. Sits lower in the water so makes sense.
@Tardy. Yes I did the same and have a 8/7 Placid in the rack. ![]()

I now have an issue... I rode my mates 8'1 100L flow this morning and it was friggin so fun. A little tippy to start with but I got onto a few big arse bombs. It's a bit slower than my smik but he has a small set of quads in it. But jeeze it turns on a dime. I reckon did a bottom turn and cutback in half the time and space. Not bad considering I'm 95kg.
May be that 111 flow wouldn't be too bad after all ????
HEY NUG......I'm with ya on that ..
that board is 8.1 ,28 5/8 ,wide 103 litre .if factory .
new .8,0 is 28 3/4 ,99 ;litre ...or the new 8,4 ,29 3/4 ,111.6 litres .not far off your 8,5 by 30 .
mate if you can ride a smaller board go for it ..you will rip hard and faster .and less likely to grow out of it ..wish i could .
thats why I kept my 120 flow ,its always a challenge but it rips on the right day ..and you always leave the water with a smile on ya face .![]()
Just thought I'd post a rail shot of rounded rails .and 2x 8.7 's totally different boards to ride .top one is the placid .vs flow .the flow is a faster board .but the placid seems looser .i ride them both as quads .

I have ordered a custom Casey Flow with a future box's (5 of). Just wondering what everyone thinks about fin choice. Fancied teaming up with a quad set of the new Rob Machado's whirls that he has designed for his new Seaside model. Also been advised by Marcus at Sunova that Future Blackstix are the way to go.

Hey Tardy, do you have an idea of what makes the placid the looser board? bit hard to see in the pics but does the placid have the ridge at the bottom of the rail like the flow?

The placid rail is quite rounded all the way through ..SO NO the flow has a sharp rail .compared to the placid ,placid being a slower board its always easy to turn ..the flow can take off then you have to slow it down to turn it ..that's why a lot of guys like it in smaller waves ,because the speed is well appreciated ,,I reckon the new more rounded rail will work well on the new flow ..make it easier to use .and smoother transitions through turns from one to another .
the placid seems to be able to change direction quicker .

This pic might be better ,but you can see the flow has a fairly chunky rail comparison to the placid ,so I can see why they wanted to thin it out ..
ITS a break through is technology ![]()

The flow design must be 4 years old now? Interesting to see how much it is going to change.
Any thoughts on fins guys, my custom arrives in 4 weeks so need to order a set
What size board did you order mate?

you going quad ? i like the shaper fins ,buy it in a quad set .
FCS PCC7 thruster set are the best I've used so far ,i like the flex and drive ..nice carbon glass mix .
there are so many brands to try ...but good fins make a HUGE difference ..
i mix my fins around a bit ..with .quads ... i like flexy fronts ..and stiffer rears ...nicer with bottom hand turns and off the top .
i sand some of my rears down too if they feel to big and drivey ...
