I've had my 8'10' speed out for 3 surfs now. The waves were small, no more than hip-height and some smaller, and I'm 72kg plus turning 70 at year's end. I'm still new to SUPs but a long-time mal rider. This Speeed rocks! Initially I was too far back when paddling for waves, but an adjustment forward [too far I thought] brought a world of difference. I caught waves later and steeper. The nose comes up, stomp the tail, turn and it just flies. I am stoked. I can't wait for a decent surf...At my age that means not more than shoulder height. I don't bounce anymore. The Speeed still feels twitchy paddling out, but as long as I keep moving it's not a drama. And everyone loves the look!
Great news, Captain. I have the 8'10 and love it. The more you surf em the less twitchy they get
although we've just had a summer here in South East Queensland with very few glassy mornings, so a little bump has been the norm. I got mine a while back after Sup the Creek's rave reviews. I reckon Sunova should send him $20 for every Speeed they sell.
(And maybe Acids now too). I think (hope) he's planning a review of his new-ish Flow. Looking forward to that.... I feel like one of those crazy Apple fans waiting for the next i-phone to be released. ![]()
A newish Flow? Tell me more...
A newish Flow? Tell me more...
Sorry xurfxup, probably a poor choice of words on my part. My lame Apple reference didn't help. Sup the Creek was on a larger Flow (the 9'2, i think), and downsized to an 8'10, which he likes a whole lot more. So, his 'newish' one is the same model as before, just the smaller version. He mentioned in another thread that he'd share more details more about it when he'd had it for a bit longer. I'm looking forward to hearing his views because I enjoy all his reviews and insights. ![]()
Hey Mcguane they do send him 20 for everyone he sells
Ha ha. As they should I reckon, Lucyloo.
They'd get it back. He'd only spend it on more boards.
Now I had better stop speaking about him or I'll have 104kg of Maine muscle to answer to.
Well, I bought a Flow 8'7 in the end. The 8'10 was a little too big for me and a side step because I have a Speeed 8'10 too.
I was lucky to try the 8'10 Flow in some testing conditions, windy (20knts) chop and 4ft x/off lumps and shore break but in that kind of conditions it just felt a bit big. So I grabbed the 8'7 and it just flew, set up as a quad it grabbed the chop and drove hard into the bottom and then allowed a nice carve back up the face.. just lovely. Had about an hour on the 8'7 in those conditions and it just felt comfortable on the side of uncomfortable and tippy so I felt in the breaks that I ride the 8'7 will both challenge and be good for slightly bigger ramps that the Speeed may be a bit big for.
I collect it weekend after next.

Good choice.
Look forward to hearing how you go once it's dialled in.
