Finally, a bit of real color for Sunova! And it does not clash outrageously with the pad greys, like the Creek's Creek water colors.
This looks a fun Board... the Steeze. I am paddling a similar new shape from a small company with a little more volume....
My first thought, as a Striker 9 5 owner, was that it looked to be doing very similar but doesn't mean they are directly similar. Rails, mid points, rockers etc all make the difference. If this improves the previous flaws of the old Striker then great! I've not read anywhere whether the rocker line of the old Striker has been improved ....it's nose certainly needed it. Saying that, on a clean day the board is a joy to surf. Personally, I'm more interested in rocker lines than adding fin boxes.
And just to add, Sunova built the Surf model as a direct copy of the 10 6 Nalu.....and why not...the Nalu is superb
JL's new beach break wide short shredder looks an identical template to the JPAus widebody model.....it's s shape that works....everyone builds similar boards.
Hey slab .me as a past Nalu rider ...I find the 8.10 flow has the speed of the Nalu ,yet a lot easier to carve on .
you might be interest in this one ..I have been looking at the photos of the Steeze ...very similar to the 130 flow
but with out the nose ...that's if you need another board![]()
love the blue on this board ...I don't nose ride .

I'm pleased to say I have the quiver I need nowadays.....and to be honest could clean out the lot for the newish Board I have now....but one must keep the board's for a bit of variety
I ditched the going low volume, thinner and smaller and went for 160 litres , 9 11 x 31 with it thinned out in all the right place and decent rocker and good nose lift. I have the 9 5 Striker (blue one) but was getting frustrated with it in the beach breaks I surf mostly so opted for something with more rocker.....way more user friendly.
The 9 5 Striker, in my opinion, is a killer for cleaner days with peeling walls and point breaks....not the messy short period sometimes steep stuff I have to contend with.

Slab, you and I ride similar waves, and I have the 9'5 striker too. Not really noticing any problems, what exactly is the issue you have? I see the Striker as great, very loose off the tail but not a full-on noserider like the JL BB.
I recently looked for a BB, couldn't find one so went for a 10?30?137 Gong instead which will hopefully give me what I'm looking for. I don't plan to part with the Striker as I think (hope) they are quite different boards.
The Striker is quite a bit lighter and has more tail rocker so more of a throw-about board, probably better in short-period beach breaks which brings me back to my original question.
Sorry, one other question...with the Striker being loose I run it as a 2+1 and use a large single in the bigger and heavier10-0. Have you tried the boards that way, would be interested to learn from your experiences?
Does seem a bit odd that this thread has derailed into a JL design vs Sunova design.
Maybe there ought to be two threads, one the JL and this one for the Steeze..
Just saying.
seems like a hijack to me
hey guys
Just seen this one, Just so you know how the Steeze came about :o) I asked Bert last year to make me a hybrid of the Style and the Acid as I love to walk when the wave dictates it but I also wanted to be able to rip the arse of it as well to keep the fun going throughout a session. We went back and forth a few times and came up with my custom comes in at 15.25 / 27.5 / 24.75 @ 102 litres with a super skinny rail and 2 + 1 set up.
The board is amazing and really is a game changer that nails everything from small to solid, locks in on the nose and shreds when you want it to - super stoked ... i was very happy to hear that Bert wanted to put it into production as the Steeze but as a slightly less agressive version.

You guys should try a Steeze as they are a real fun board and quite a game changer.
All good fun at the end of the day ... ;O)

I'm certainly looking forward to mine......![]()
This must be an excellent board for the 2ft and less waves. The 8'6 version would be nice and manageable too.
I assume from those pics that the rail locks into the face like a longboard ?
I currently have an 8'8.But it can be a bit too fast for smaller conditions due to the tail
Not at all this board rocks in all wave sizes .. from small days in pic to head and half plus days with chunky flat walls. I have topped out once on a 20 knot day on a monster set wave when the wind was lifting the nose aparrt from that its solid as :o)))))))))))))))
I have a 9'6 Steeze coming soon....I got the 9'6 because I wanted it to be all about fun!
Super stoked to ride this board!!
Custom Steeze! ![]()

Yeah baby. Very pretty.
I'm hangin' for mine. ![]()
What dimensions?
"Steeeeeezy, steeeeeezy like Sunday morning.....
"
9'6" x 31 shaved down to 131L finished volume.
Will report back on this one, but I could smell the fun as I was unboxing it.
You know that feeling you get when they've really nailed it........? ![]()

Dear AA and Brenno

Bob
I support FRP's sentiment. Add to the quiver:12' search, 8'10" Steeze, 8'9" flash, 8'7" Creek. What dreams are made of.....

Hi Brenno, how much nose rocker do these boards have?
That's a stunner! What a beautiful board.
Whens it getting wet ??
Awesome colour!! ![]()
Got it wet this morning. In some dribbly poop. Same colour too, after about 160mm of rain in the last 3 days!
First thoughts. Super stable. The volume is perfect. Water at the top of the rails.
This is my second Sunova, the first I gripped myself, and I've heard from a few people the standard grip is quite harsh. On the contrary I found it spongey, and a little slippery at first. I gave it a good scrub with some wet sand and liked it better after that. Grippy.
Paddling out was really easy. Straight. And I could shove it through the lip with ease.
I was getting a little frustrated trying to paddle on to ripples, but it steadily improved as the tide came in. The first "wave" l got the word that sprung to mind was "solid". Really nice glide for quite a wide board. Strangely enough it doesn't look wide at all on the water. I managed to catch one wave which emptied in to the next, and when I hit that section I laughed to myself. "Oooh, there it is - fun!"
Turns nicely off the tail, which has ample rocker for some good push. The standard fin is a cracker. I had it set up as a single.
I was watchful of the nose on the first couple of lippy little rollers, but it's perfect. I needed to get back on the tail to keep it out of trouble once, but no pearling. They've nailed it.
It's a good solid nose ride, and I mean super easy. Once the hexa traction shows up it will be even easier. ![]()
I headed out after this morning's storm, telling the missus I would be back soon.
4 and a half hours later I was sheepishly making my way down the driveway. The steeze is not good for domestic harmony. Great for my mojo though. ![]()
Nice report Breeno, you just made the wait harder.... I am expecting mine soon!
Good pics as well, they really show the board off well !

I wish I'd tried rubbing the grip down first. The first few times I went out on my new flash it ripped skin from my knees and feet like a cheese grater. Fortunately, after about three surfs it's softened off.
Been havin' some Steezy good times, messin' with fins for running to the nose. I know this board wasn't strictly designed for nose riding but I can't help myself! ![]()
The cutaway fin that came with the board is awesome for riding out of the centre, and off the tail, but I found the tail tends to pop up at slower speeds.
This combo is from an old Munro longboard that I "personalised". Makes the tail stick a treat.

And this bad boy I found on special at wetfins. Couldn't help myself!
Can't wait until this wind buggers off to give it a go.

However it goes, I'm having a ball on the Steeeeeeeeze.....![]()

This is the modern love child surf board which I will own as a 7 footer sooner or later. When I found this shape I was wondering how it would translate to a sup as well in say 8"8'.

What an amazing looking board, Brenno!
Had I not just purchased a Style XL (which has far exceeded my expectations!) I'd be all over this at your exact dimensions.
