Awesome Creeker!!!! Freakin-A! One of the best vid's I've seen of you dissecting a wave!!! 69 and ripping like a youngster!!!! So very cool!

I've watched this vid already about a dozen times and I'm so used to seeing your front foot close to the stringer and in this vid there are times when you you both front and back feet rail side....a spectacular lesson here!!

Bravo Bravo!!!!!!!!!

Unreal video Rick. Good waves, great board, warm water, lovely surfing and a functional Soloshot - nailed it.

A creek it could be ...after thinking of a custom flow ...125/30.5/8.10 ..but then thought of a speed ..but a little narrow for me ..
the creek specs fall right in my pocket ...as i've improved i feel my 130 litre flow ,feels big some times ,but enjoy the easy catch of waves
also felt it was wide, in the pocket of the wave @ 31 and a bit ...

just wondering what differences the 8,10 /125 litre creek would surf to the 8,10 flow./130 litres .it is narrower
and it is 5 litres less ..will it be easier to throw around .?narrower boards usually are.?anyone ridden one

Tardy.... IMO, the Creek and Flow are two very different boards.
Not for me to say which one to ride... just that the way they surf is very different IMO.
I have an 8'10 Flow, which is super stable for me, but I struggle on an 8'10 Creek.... so it may fit your needs exactly, if you want less liters but like the 8'10 size.

The two differ greatly from the mid rail, back.... the Flow carries more width at the sidebites, exactly where the Creek bumps down.

If you are not using your 8'7 Flow a lot, you may benefit from trading it, for an 8'10 Creek without worrying about having 2 boards that are too similar.

hey creek ,good info..
i like my 130 flow ...but find it a little wide in the pocket ,,so looking for a similar 8'10 size but better at shaper turns and a bit more bite
a little less literage would be good ,but not too much less ..the 125.3 litre sounds great and the narrower width ..my main concern was the tail
i need it to sit down .just watched a vid and it said the tail does sit lower in the water than the flow.so good.

i have a flicky style ..but also like to slide ..i have never ridden a speed ,because ,i'm not the best at using boards under 30 wide .30,5
is perfect for me .

yes the 8,7 will go .a bit to small for this 98kg kid ..i did give it a good go ...but there was too much swearing involved.

i also have been thinking of the 9,1 acid .126 /30,5 or the new flash .8,9 ..but then again the flash @ 122 litres ,is similar low volume like the 120 flow ,

i think i'm getting creekie so need a creek.8,10 .

maybe this will help see it better Tardy

Liking the foot moves.....and the board looks pretty fast

Wow... thanks for the comments... you guys are too kind

I am seeing lots of potential in the Soloshot3 to be an instructional tool.....
the close-up slo-mo really makes it easier to breakdown the moving parts (which I did on the "SoloShot Success" thread)
It also lets me see how a board interacts with the wave.

I am learning a LOT from the bits and pieces I have.

Especially the things in the water around me

Sunnybouy... I am looking forward to your thoughts, once you have some good waves on your 8'7!

Great vid STC, really cool to see you carve out.

So my quest continues: the 8'7 was nice the other day, today I finally got out on the 8'4 and.. fell off a lot. V-light offshore wind, clean green on the suck, shoulder high.. so you'd be thinking "ideal" right? Well yes it was. I fell in a lot for the first 30mins trying to find a balance point, once I realised it's in the dead center of the board it became clear and all was well.. Surf stance is probably better for turning sharp but don't get your back foot too far back just yet.. paddle semi surf-stance into the wave then hop back but it needs a wider stance than the 8'7 to keep the speeed (sic) then pull your front leg back about where the handle is to start ripping, and it does do that in spades.. odd really bu the drop in size/Ltrs from the 8'7 is very marked.. I liked it, did it like me? Hmmm.. the fins took a chunk out of my thigh and holed my wetsuit because it didn't want to let go after a bailed out "hit the beach" ride which happens to us all at some point.
So.. which one will I settle on the 8'4 or the 8'7 ?
Ive decoded neither until after our summer is over, so late August is when I'll revisit this. Luckily my mate stocks Sunova boards so this gives me some options open that others may not have..
For the meantime I'll keep what I've got.. my trusty 8'10 Speeed, my 8'7 Flow and my junky 8'3 Shroom..

Hope my meandering thoughts haven't clogged up the thread..

Cheers

Wow - that looks big! Got the video of it? What did you do? Stay out?

Great vid by the way. I am impressed by how you confidently put your weight on your heels (or was that on the SS3 thread?). I am getting closer though, when you are confident in how the board will respond, you can lean into the turns more.

Hi CSE
The video of it is so fast that you have to stop action to see what it was..... I saw it when it jumped and figured it was a spinner, they jump all the time and theres lots of all kinds of sharks here, so it's just part of the landscape.

Don't wait to be confident.... just lay it down!
Falling means you are trying!

If you don't want to screw up a ride
A great way to learn the "feel" of a hard backside turn is:
Going backside.
Wave is closing out
Move your back foot to the rear rail.....
Lean into a hard backside turn.... and "flick" your board over the wave.

After a few of these, you realize how solid you are through the turn.

Crappy pic to demonstrate, but you get the idea

Good thinking. I do that often on the front side, without intentionally trying to learn from it, and it does teach you how much you can dig the rail and how the board will respond. I need to do it on the backside.

Bert walked past it yesterday, and couldn't help but send me a couple of pics.
Still in production, deep ledge handle and pad with arch bar to come.......
Stock 8'10" Creek, with custom finish.
To'd and fro'd playing with volume, channels and fins on a 9'1", but the more we played, the closer and closer we got to the 8'10", and there she is.....

Well I'm off to test both 8'4 and 8'7 Creek...
I didn't think I'd be changing one of my boards so soon, but I'm now looking at parting with my 8'10 Speeed.. I never thought I'd say that

Watching James cut some mighty fine moves on that Orange tint one has made me think either the 8'4 or 8'7 could replace my Speeed.. There's ten ltrs difference and an inch width, dilemma though is I've already got an 8'7 Flow which I love... and my Speeed which I also love... and the Flow might be too similar a size to the Creeks...

Argh

Sell the flow and get the most challenging size of creek that you can/want to handle. Then keep the speed for the bigger or smaller or more funky days when you need a bit more stability and paddle power

you cant sell the speeed !!!!!

Looking forward to seeing/hearing about your first rides on the 9'1.

Thanks Dave!
The Soloshot vids are so much more info than what I was getting before.
The zoomed vid still has enough quality that I am able to see minute detail in slo-mo. I learn from it every day.

I plan to make more informational videos in the future... I have as much to learn from my failures as I do from the good moments.
My problem is, I am dissecting so many things right now, I can't settle on just one!

Frothing for my 9'1 Creek!

this is all I've got so far ...from supplier ...but i reckon its gonna be fast ,which is what I'm after...i do a lot of back hand surfing ..

I'M hoping this is the one ....my 130 flow is scary at times being 31 and a bit wide .I'VE dropped a few k's so now siding at 96.

it's gonna sit perfect in between my 2 flows...only dropped 4,7 litres ,from the 130, but the 30,25 will be the difference in fast reef breaks ..
the 8,7 @120 is a struggle at times ,125,3 litres will be perfect .....and the extra length and speed in bigger waves is very helpful .
keep you posted ..4 week wait ..

quiver is looking healthy
