Sure, but might take a while as I'm pretty landlocked right now. Hopefully the river wave will work again soon, but that won't do for a review.

I did go for a paddle on the lake though and was surprised by how straight it paddled. I thought it would be much worse coming from an Allwave 9'1 but didn't really see any difference. The 9'1 has a little more glide of course. The 8'3 sits much lower with about 1-2 cm water over the deck but still stable, so I feel I got the right size for my 90kg and 6'3.

Thanks again for the good advice bigdaz and kneesup, I think it's spot on!

Glad you feel like you got the right size Jameos

I just had someone ask the thickness of my 7'11 Allwave LTD and thought I may as well post it in case anyone else was interested.

At the thickest point it looked right on 3 and 3/4 inches - measured with some callipers.

hi guys, after a bit of advice. Have the opportunity to get either an 8'5 hrs or an 8'3 ltd . I'm currently 5'9 and weigh 88kgs but planning on getting down to 82. I previously had an 8'11 allwave but want to go a bit smaller. On the fanatic website it suggests the 8'5 but I noticed that people seem to be riding a size smaller. I would consider myself an intermediate surfer.

I think because the 8'3 keeps the 32" width of the 8'5 and only loses 10L in volume it's going to be almost as stable for you at 82kg as the 8'5 would be, it's just going to sit slightly lower in the water which may help you anyway in choppy seas.

I'm 82kg and found the water was just about deck level when on the 8'3 and I wouldn't want anymore volume.

Also, you're 5'9, I'm 5'11, and I found the 8'3 plenty stable for all sea conditions, so I think being two inches shorter may mean you would be fine on the 8'3, also buying the smaller board may help you lose that 6kg

I'm a big allwave fan & have had the 8'10 then the 8'6, now an 8'3 is on the wish list

Demo if you can to be sure!

Hi, thanks for all your comments. I have a Fanatic Pro carbon7'11" x 28" but havent had it in decent surf yet. Can you explain the difference with the Allwave being better for choppy or mushy surf. Is it the volume or width or rocker, rails etc. will adding bigger fins to my Pro help in choppy conditions? I am pretty confident on my Jimmy Lewis 8'7" in over 3' e.g Balian Bali but want more rocker and lighter board for turns, especially when smaller, which is why I was looking and bought the Fanatic at a good price (used). paddled and caught one small wave on Starboard 7'7"ish X 28" and it seemed easier than the Fanatic, both same volume. Same day and conditions as swapped with another person out there.

Hello , I think Starboard is easier than Fanatic at same volume because SB got fattest rail shape all around the board and specially by tails and nose so you get more buoyancy far around your foot position giving more stability and therefore paddling drive to catch wave
IMO, all Fanatics are looking like very nice surfboard shapes opposite to plumply Starboards and for some of them really fat surfboard shapes but in fact the SB are more " stood able".
Are those Fanatic thinner rails may allow Kay to backdooring on thiswww.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Stand-Up-Paddle/SUP/Kai-Bates-and-secret-south-coast-gems/
