Hey MJ, we can talk about your design. I have just sent you a text. Deep are on the front foot with board design and construction.
Strange thing is, with a surf shop next door to me, they will not touch a big brand board to repair, they find it too hard and find the boards too weak. These boards are easy fix with a solid construction, and with a certain somebody from here that also jumped on board around the same time, that trashes equipment, the shop next door has had no issue at all fixing his couple of dings from rocks. I have not needed to repair any of my boards since getting on board mid last year, treat them well, but surf them super hard, and they do what they are made for! The Deep race boards are no different!

Oooooh - I like that. Thanks cbigsup.
And this from Wikipeadia: "Many of the saber-toothed cats' food sources were large mammals such as elephants, rhinos, and other colossal herbivores of the era."
Ha - it appears the saber-tooth cats used to like chasing rhinos!
So, from this day forward that tail shall be know as the "Saber-tooth".
Not too late for "Vampire Tail"?

Not too late for "Vampire Tail"?
That's a great (and little bit sexy) name too - but I think Saber-tooth is already locked in.
Thanks lads. The last snippet was just a tease. So looking forward to mine. Especially now the cool change is here......![]()

Casso - You sure can surf. More video please and that board looks amazing.
The Rhinochaser is just in at the repairers getting a nose job after a little run in with some rocks -
. We should be back up and running soon.
What a great thread. Casso and the team guys keep commenting and raising it to the top of the forum. You need a car sponsor Casso.

Ha - that'd be very nice. Any car dealers out there?
Here's a little more spruiking:
This bad boy arrived yesterday, just finished gripping it up. Can't wait to try it out tomorrow, been missing a big board for those lazy days.....
Let you know how it goes. ![]()

Hi y'all,
5 sessions on this beast so far, still trying to find some decent juice to get this thing cranking. Suffering new board curse (new board = no waves).
My initial thoughts........
Beautifully finished as all deep boards are. Tough. Nothing to scratch.
Heeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaavvvvvvvvy. Keeping in mind that I have been thrashing my minion, and this is what I am comparing it to. I thought the same when I went back to my Nalu from the minion. I'll weigh this big boy one day. Maybe. Maybe I'd rather not know. If I wasn't so hard on the gear, I would have gone the lighter construction. But I am, so I didn't.
More stable than my 10' Laird surfer was, probably due to the wider tail. Not as corky as my 10'6" Nalu, I'm guessing the 20 litres less volume has something to do with this. The chaser is quite stable, but mine at 29' wide can be a handful in a choppy onshore. Especially side on to the lumps. I'm still finding the sweet spots, and found on my last session that standing further forward in sloppy crap does help. I was really having fun. Then had to go back to work. Pffffft.
Paddling out is a breeze. The ease of ploughing the nose through oncoming waves and white wash was appreciated. Just enough rocker. Not too much.
On the couple of decent waves that I managed to find, this thing is a f'n freight train. I kid you not. It has awesome glide. I wouldn't be purchasing it as a beginner and taking it out adjacent to your local flagged area. You may get run out of town.
I am readjusting to the big board. Taking one step back on the minion and driving it back up the face of a wave is a whole different kettle of fish to taking a packed lunch to make your way down the back of the chaser. When you do make it there though it is worth it. The big arcing turn at speed is exhilarating, something I've been missing. I tried it initially as a quad, and have it currently set up as a thruster. I'm leaning marginally towards 3 fins at the moment. At least until I am in tune with it.
All in all, a welcome addition to my board rack. I can see some real fun ahead, and will make sure to share it with you.
My eldest considers himself a budding photographer, if only I could get him out of bed.....
Cheers.
Brenno: Any thoughts yet on how your Deep Rhino Chaser surfs compared to your 10' Laird? I'm asking because I bought a 10' Laird Surfer for knee to waist high waves and had a blast on it this last summer but I've been thinking of how I could improve the Laird. I've been surfing forever but was never into longboards but it's nice to have the glide both on the waves and while paddling.
Casso: I always enjoy your videos, dude! What do you think the percentage is for how much you ride your 10'er verses your little Minion?

magentawave: Bit early to tell. I enjoyed the way the Laird made sections easily and turned on a dime, but was disappointed at the easily damaged finish and hated the domed deck and soft deck pad. Just personal choice. I found it a little boring as a thruster, but the quad set up with the fins so close together made it more like a big twin. Loose on a steep drop. To get my 10'6" Nalu to "feel" the same I used to surf it as a twin sometimes. Good Fun. I haven't had the Rhinochaser in the same conditions yet, but the couple of decent waves I managed to get it on were excellent. I reckon with the right fin set up (for me), and a couple more sessions, it's going to sing! Let you know......

A couple weeks ago I switched out the thrusters on my 10' Laird for a really nice 7" fiberglass McTavish single fin with great flex and I can't believe how much better I like the board. Like night and day difference! I want to try it as a 2+1 next.
I like quads but the configuration on the Laird is different than any other quad I've ever seen so I'll have to try that too. What were the biggest waves your rode it with as a quad?
I dunno, but for such a long board that pointed square tail on your 10' Deep Rhino Chaser seems like it would be too wide for me. It would be interesting to know what the tail measurements are both right at the tail and 12" forward compared to my 10' Laird.
There's a bit of small wave Rhinochaser action in here:
Hey Casso, what board is it that comes in at about 17 seconds? Striped nose and pintail. Looks very pretty!! ![]()

It's Chappo's 10 foot DEEP. Here's some more footage of it:

About 50:50 when I'm not training for a comp.

Very nice. I like the dimensions too.
Seeing as you've ridden both, can you compare that to your Rhino for us mate?

You train for surf comp
Casso, the way you whip Chappo's 10'er around makes it look like it's really light. Since the two designs are so different, it would be interesting to read your take on riding his board verses yours. Is it a pintail?

What are the dimensions and volume of your new board?
