Inspirational stuff. Are you on the 8'5" or 8'10"? Which fins are you using?
I have an 8'8", and it is by far the best sup I have ever ridden. So much fun!!
8'10 Hammer but ill be trying 8.8 soon. The board has a whole new life if you can get back foot to the kick.Enjoy and using standard fins.
hey hammer, what size/weight are you - i'm very interested in the 8 8. what board(s) did you come from and how does it compare. i'm looking for something with good performance but able to use in almost all conditions from tiny to solid. I ride a 7 10 minion amongst others but would like something a bit more forgiving than the minion. i'm 50 yo, 85 kilos and intermediate. thanks for any input. cheers, dools
Hey Flowmaster im riding the 8.10 at 85 kgs but i rode the 8.5 not long back at 113 ltrs and was amazed at the stability. It was not much diff to 8.10 at 130 ltrs but way shorter to surf in pretty good waves and conditions.Im keen on 8.8 but reckon 8.5 is doable. Hope it helps with decision for you.
thanks lucy, makes me confident in the 88 - and considering the 85 (or say a custom around 8 6 and bit wider.... or a custom larger minion as I love my 7 10). too many choices!!!
Well the sunovas are good cause I've let my mates have a go and 5 of them have purchased speeds from 9.2 to 8.5 and they are ripping
For anybody that may be thinking about purchasing a Sunova Speed here are a few different personalities of the board. Same board, same beach but very different conditions. Note: Sometimes it even rides well backwards. Consider this board if you like what you see.
Lovely stuff at 108 you are making that speed hum.Im still amazed at the step up in performance when i occasionally get back to the kick.Great photos and keep us posted with them. This feedback takes a lot of the guess work out of board choice for many and lets face it. the last thing you want is to spend the hard earned on the wrong vessel.
Hi Dools. I am the same as you - 50 years old x 85kilos. You can't go wrong with an 8'8" Speeed, it is my go to board in most conditions. I ride a lot of crappy short period, windy, shallow, choppy reef breaks, If I where surfing clean perfect waves everyday I would probably like to try the 8'5". The board paddles very well, has heaps of glide and has a very compliant feel - like an old polyester surfboard. The board surfs well off the middle and absolutely charges off the tail and as demonstrated by Lucyloo nose rides very nicely.
@lucyloo I comented on the second picture before , what a great picture that is, makes you dream off looking over dunes and meet surf like that woooow.
I'm only 88 kg hum hum but glad I went 9.2 where I live I have to deal with stong winds and current.
On the rare clean day (France in May) smaller would be no problem however, is the 9.2 holding me back ..no.
I'm sure to say that the design wil outperform many other brands shorter shapes, just try before you die.
You would also like the strenght, checked my board the other day and not a mark on it, no dents nothing and its been in the surf a lot now
Happy Hollander
Hi Flowmaster no the 9.2 is a great board. My mate next door has it and ive enjoyed riding it.We are very spoiled here to surf clean waves out front pretty regularly so i am able to stick to the cleaner days.It sounds like the 9.2 would always be a board of use in your tricky conditions but as proven by Hilly great photos, dont be afraid to try smaller speeds if you can get the chance.Correct about the strenghth, they are amazing,so far touch wood.Really good to see and hear of other sunovians having a ball.Keep in touch and stay ripping Flow
yeah got to agree with everyone that's got there hands on one magic shape in not too challenging conditions did my best reo on my 88 speed best stando ive surfed was a bit suss reading all the supthecreek hype on it thanks bert top sup
one thing I wonder about with this board is how does it surf from the Middle? Does it sometimes feel too straight when turned from the mid section, how do you go pumping for speed as you need to be in the middle or a bit forward but still be able to really turn the board, does it only turn really tight if you get your foot right back?
Great to see pics of you boys ripping the Speeed!
It warmed my heart to see the nose ride on it.... good stuff!
Hi Jacob the speed will generate plenty in the back half imo. Most of the time to my dissapointment i turn the board from front of pad and it does well but when i get onto that pad and kick area its another level. This board has enabled me to make many sections i would not have made on previos boards, could be different for others but the 5 speeds amongst our sunovians report same comment.Cheers
Thanks Lucy loo that was sort of what I would expect, I can definitely see one of these in my future soon![]()

Thanks Tino i was loving the speed so much for the power surfing side of it but i missed the longboard tricks so i thought hey why not and guess what the speed was all over it, bloody cracker design.

Oh no euros and spinny whizzy stuff
anyone care to comment on the smaller sizes, like 7'11 and 8'2? do they generate speed and go well on smaller and "average" waves or do they require a good bit of power behind them?
Ive only had one go on my brothers 7'11" speed as he never wants to give it up. Finally he gave me a go the other day in 2-3ft clean waves. I swapped my Gulliver Vbox 7'6" and had no problem balancing even tho the speed is a bit narrower. I was BLOWN away with the speed it generated. Did one of the best floaters ive done on a sup cause I had so much speed I just skipped over the section. Only got half a dozen waves but were suitably impressed. One thing I did find is that you have to get put your foot right at the back to do good turns and found myself searching for the back which seemed further than normal, but I'm sure after a few surfs it would be normal.
Hope this helps u out Borat.
If you have read the other Sunova Speeed post..i pulled the trigger on a 8'5 after reading all the feedback and advice. Ordered and coming. Im around 86/87kgs and think this was the right choice over the 8'2. The 8'2 might have won if i was surfing glassy conditions all day long but in reality that rarely happens . Im thinking of putting c drive fins in ..Large side bites and a medium centre fin. Anyone else have tried these?..a mate of mine said this set up was the best combo he's riden on his 8'5
