It's interesting that all of Pat Rawson's custom shapes are equipped with four fin boxes - quad only!

I was naturally going much faster than normal so it is hard to say whether the quads on the Flow were now making it more difficult to turn (it seemed more stiff) or whether it was just me.

I certianly perfer my Flow as a thruster in everything but really little stuff.

As a quad it is fast but the turns are way too flat, and you end up squirting out to the shoulder and a way from the pocket. As a thruster it is much easier to surf the board more vertically, and gives more control in bigger faster waves , slowing it down just a touch so you stay in the pocket.

damo, what size quad rears were you running? I had the same experience as you when my quad rear fins were anything over 4", but when I went down to 3.5" rears, extra speed did not seem to stiffen the board up. Because the quad rears are out on the rails and kind of working with the fronts ( right now I am using 4.5" fronts), I can go way smaller than I can with a thruster rear fin where I can't go much below 4" without spinning out or losing drive.

hear you CSE--when i went from the allwave to the airborn, felt a bit tippy, but i got over it quickly--so when i went back to the AW after riding only the airborne for 5 months, on a windy crappy day, i thought "aaaah this is going to feel so stable and relaxing"---NOT---felt much tippier---there is a corkiness to the allwave, whereas the airborn is wide but much thinner (3.7"), so that might well have had an effect--but i'd bet the quad vs thruster makes a big difference---i thought to try the allwave with quads, but fanatic is years behind with their fin box choice and i none of my quads (from an L41 and the airborn) will fit the allwave

net, the allwave is for sale (pickup in brooklyn!)
