HI guys.
Things are changing.

Zeeko is testing their Spitfire foil with what would best be described as XXLW wings, but using a reinforced mount plate to cope with the extra lift load.
we will have more info soon.

Quite an interesting development. When zeeko introduced the spitfire in kitefoiling, the canard seemed to make a lot of sense: smaller wings for same amount of lift; tendency to sink rather than crash on surface breaches; rear foot "surfy" feel. I thought it might revolutionize foiling, but seems to remain a novelty and niche. One issue was that they went with tiny wings that are very quick turning, but require too much speed to actually surf waves. Seems they are tackling this now, with the popular XLW and now XXLW wings ... will be interesting to see how that develops.
The same benefits seem to apply for sup/surf foiling. I have been curious for a while why no sup/surf wing developers have designed a canard set up. The question remains unanswered if this due to some kind of performance issues, or if it is just too niche/unusual, or just if no one has bothered yet. Cool to see zeeko going there. That other one a few pages back, with the North style box system is interesting too -- if it actually works well, it is quite a bit safer to not have wings to fall onto and maybe stronger for hitting bottom.
I sanded some spitfire copies out of G10 for my kitefoil ... I intend to also try the same for sup foil, with a much larger rear wing. Though first want to master the takuma wing, so that I can compare the feel of other wings with at least low-level intermediate skill. ![]()
The simple answers are that the std. Spitfire wings gave same lift as the Zeeko Green&white foil and same balance points on board etc.
plus it depends on your waves. I only use the Std wings because my local waves are on average 1.5m or above and travel a good 12knots.
As to why no others have got serious about Canard? Zeeko spent 2years working it out and nearly all the other companies are in a grab for market share as Quick and easy as they can, so no real inclination to head down a harder path.
we are now seeing Zeeko copies that took the companies that copy so long to "personalise" their copies they are now marketing 2015 technology.
At any rate the biggest advantage of The Spitfire is keeping a more natural stance on the board with easy turning.
those that join the Spitfire club will see what I mean.
Hi,
i just wanted to show my new Crossover custom board, but i havn't tried SUPfoiling yet, only windfoiling and supsurfing so far (with my old board). But with this board i got the US rails installed to be prepared.
Tending to the Slingshot H4 right now, skipped the idea of getting a China Tak..... copy.
Thanx to Piros about all his priceless inputs on the supfoils.

Here's my setup. Finally had a go in the surf a couple of days ago. Good fun.

Is this happy valley? Would love to see it in action.

Hey Nugdam, yeah mate that's happies. I haunt there a lot. Only been out there on the foil once as I hurt my shoulder over Christmas, but had a blast and got it up a couple of times. Definitely can meet up and you can check it all out mate as I'm back fighting fit and keen to have another crack.
Cheers Whitey.

I've probably seen you out there a bit then thats my goto spot... along with every other sup'r ??. I'm eager to get out this weekend depending on this wind and swell.

Loving the new GoFoils and been doing some tow in's on the Lift 110 & 150 . Seen a lot of sharks this week on the Gold Coast so all stickered up with Shark Deterrent stickers . These things work, they are not a gimmick. Check them them out here:-

Prios, I feel like someone's watching me, haha.
I recently received a set of the new Ke Nalu foils to test and made a video with my first impressions:

Nice review Robert , funny how it's called an Iwa as well . I heard the Ke Nalu foil has been on the drawing board for a very long time with artwork complete but by the time they finally released it the Go Foil had just launched their Iwa.....![]()
Hammer:- All 3 of us on the IWA with large rear (blue) wing , basically haven't changed since I got the wings except for a quick run on the 200. Really like the IWA turns like the Kai but with heaps more glide. When it gets bigger I'll swap the rear wings.
Anyone brave enuff to recommend a particular brand tuttle box?
You going to throw a foil on the Bula Gizzie??
Anyone brave enuff to recommend a particular brand tuttle box?
Yes the Go Foil ones are the bomb , they are built different to windsurf Tuttles.

Have a look at J Shapes from Raglan. They do installation as well. www.jshapes.com/collections/accessories/products/deep-total-box
My next foil board being shaped... will be right in time for our Spring! (Gong's Patrice Guenole in his lair)

What are anyone's thoughts on increased shark activity with the foil acting a bit like a fishing lure in the water?
From what I know, that's not how sharks hunt or feed. I think your way more likely to get hit while sitting and waiting.
I've never heard of an attack on a wave on any craft. Anyone else?
Black foil wings look like a stingray and probably a slow, sick one most of the time. If sharks see in black and white, then red would look like black so red wings might be in danger too.
I've never had an encounter while on a foil but there have been a few I've heard of.
Hadn't thought of the ray connection. That's totally possible. But the freeway to the beach is way more likely to get me than the men in gray. Thx for the info Colas and Casso, hadn't considered that

If you paint your car with red and white stripes you will be safer on the road too ![]()
This is my new Dave Kalama Sup foil . first one in Aus 7-1 x 27 apx 125 litres . Amazing float & stability for my 88 kegs and the paddle speed is just so fast. Very different shaped board that's why I got it , it's board number 4 for me in a bit over a year. The way this thing pumps is insane with it's nose and tail angles just brilliant. Hard job to get it here but worth the dollars and wait time. He has used some form of PU or maybe an extruded foam with a stringer and it's just so light the foil almost floats the board it on it's side. It's super tough full glass with no carbon except around the Tuttle & and strips on the rails. Not sold on the straps yet will do a few more sessions . I'm finding it hard to keep my feet in or near the straps on take off because I have been paddling with my feet offset from the stringer line for so long.
Here are some pics plus I am reposting my Bungy video below it gives a great look and nose and tail clearance on the pump.

My advice is to firmly put your front foot in the strap, but leave the rear foot out of the strap.
Paddling with both feet in the straps is quite challenging, you lose a lot of lateral balance.
Plus we tend to flex the rear foot a lot on paddling, since we are facing forward. Having the rear foot in the strap will also interfere with this natural movement and put you off balance.
I tend to put the rear foot just in front of the rear strap, touching it. This way I can feel where the strap is, and easily put the rear foot in the strap just by feel afterwards. Also it is quite easy to move the rear foot around, even airborne, as opposed to the front one.
With experience, you can of course take off with both feet in the straps, my method is to paddle parallel to the beach and rotate the board to catch the wave at the last moment, this is the best I found to have good paddling power, but minimize the time spend in a tricky-to-balance mode.
Welcome to the strapped club! ;-)
Is that a step-tail on the Kalama? That would make sense on a foil board as a step-tail gives a longer planing flat and extra volume to get going and keep going from a touch down.
