Did my first DW today on the FD Max with the sport battery on my DC 5-5 x 20 x 55 Litre prone & Code 980s talk about shortening the learning curve to downwinding . I've got a broken hand so can't paddle at all but this was a piece of cake .

More I ride the longer everything gets it will go anywhere from 35 to 45 mins on the sports and 45 to 1.15 on the max . All depends how you ride .
Seems such a great gateway into DW and session saver when conditions are crap. If I had one, wife would never see me. It's only the price-tag that snaps me to reality and saves me from myself.
Have just got the new slim system so will try and get some reports as soon as conditions are good, took it for a downwind run and its noticeably smoother and more grunt for sure, made a pretty ordinary run a lot of fun !!
@Hwy1North in my opinion the FD is at it's best when it's not in use (pod out of the water motor off), I look at it as a tool to give me the most possible "chip ins" and "on foil time" as possible in which I can then clock up as much muscle memory and "learning to foil" as possible. People that use them as a toy or efoil may be having fun but the progression tends to stagnate there. I started foiling about 6 months ago and even as a long time surfer I sucked during my initial tow sessions it got frustrating. I didn't want to buy a FD I considered it the easy way out and cheating. But having said that I eventually got one (again only looking at it as a temporary learning tool) The FD allowed me to put in the time on foil without needing to rely on a jetski or maybe catching 1 wave per session. Here's a few clips from the past couple of weeks (nothing amazing it's tiny shore break conditions and my first flat water session but it's real world I guess) I'm still not near good enough to ditch it yet, but I will continue to work on on my surf technique, my turns and my pump which should all hopefully transfer over to "real foiling" when I make that move.?si=Izrh084dJxvjM7ME?si=SpJjvxACFVqiUz-t?si=3B-DXmnZXN2e1zuT
Great videos! Do you just mount the camera on a tri-pod and hit record? However you do it, very effective.
Anyone know anything about the new Manta foils Take Off system. Looks quite similar.
If the specs are accurate the launch price is incredibly appealing. Some of the designs and specs "on paper" are better than the gen2 Manta do have a legit history in efoils so there's actually a chance it will come through which just leaves launch date and warranty support as the unknowns.Worth keeping an eye on but I wouldn't be throwing money at it until there's some reputable reviews/videos/demos

Remember to add gst and shipping (which the last time I tried to get a soloshot refurbished was US$250). I will have a look in 2025 to replace my Gen 2, will be interesting what is available then.
Another fun day on the Gen2 Max

Nice man. Curious which mounting position you have on the mast? 15 or 20 cm? Do you like the mounting position or would you do it different? Also, what are dims on that board?
Thanks
I'm on 20cm which really is good for everything BUT I'm dropping back to a 15cm . The more you use the FD the better you get and start throwing the foil around more. The board is a DC 5-5 x 20 x 55 litres which lets me flat water start right down to 10 to 15% battery , I also have a Sunova Pilot 4-11 x 19-1/2 x 42.5 litres which I'll be dropping back for surfing but still use the DC for downwinds. The larger board also helps start on smaller foils
My take on mast position and swing weight . ?feature=shared
Excellent video's Piros. Looks like it's time for a garage sale and a pre-order.

Just got notified mine has been sent![]()

Had the same problem not being able to slide the mast all the way forward with the Armstrong PM on Sunova DW elite board, the rear screws lined up with the exit slots too. I made some longer Stainless plates to go over the t nuts and "bridge " the exit slot ...problem solved. Will try and post some pictures later but it was an easy fix allowing full movement of the mast.
Hey Piros, I've got a DC blade downwind foilboard and a foil drive max, but can't connect the controller through the board. It connect fine on my prone board. Do u have any connection issue with your DC foil board and the foil drive? Cheers
I've made sure the tracks are stuffed full of foam like it says in the instructional video, But that doesnt help.
As soon as I tilt the board so the battery is out the water the connection comes back, then disappears once board is upright again.

Ask the question on the Foildrive owners group facebook page, more chance of a reply.

Has it got carbon tracks? This is an issue with Armstrong boards. Solution is to route out a hole in the bottom of the track and fill with resin. Apparently it works but I have not done it. I have had issues with murky water, fine in clear water but if a lot of debris in the water intermittent cutouts which is weird.

Thanks. Unsure if the tracks are carbon, but clearly its the board that is blocking the signal. The idea of making a signal window through the board seems sensible but I'd like to find out more before attacking it with a router. The water is clear here, that not the problem. I thought just water on its own blocked the bluetooth, hence the need to put foam in the tracks.
I'll use the wifes facebook to check the foildrive group as I dont have FB.
This is a question I had being a FD assist owner a few months back bought approx 2 months before the new Gen came out, what a pisser! Anyway was scratching my head on how signal is transmitted on new FD max through the water from below with no antenna visible on deck to controller as heard of guys trying to make battery boxes incorporated in the board on old FD assist gen and having transmission issues with controller how the heck is it done on new FD max gen with unit submerged in water seems like a issue for intermittent outages waiting to happen or would occur from time to time? Can anyone enlighten a old FD assist greenhorn owner on how FD max gets the signal from unit underwater to controller as we all know the old FD assist had batt box deck mounted with transmission antenna in box how does new FD max get a good signal to controller all ears
The signal can go through the foam (air) of your board. Which is why you stuff your tracks with foam too. This allows the signal a path to the motor box. If you touch the controller to your board underwater on a duckdive you can pull the trigger and go for a submarine ride I hear.
