I would start in the exact order you listed your wings actually. ![]()
Yes actually that is what I was thinking, I have just started to dial in the 1550v2 on my 5.7 sup using my Foil Drive so I was also going to try to use/adapt my Foil Drive to the prone board (maybe at least try gaffa tape as I am about 65kg & the board is 65L?:-)
Here's another fun session I had on a tiny day on our local beachy.

Using one of the new Naish MA 1600 foils.
It was basically hardly breaking and tiny. So much paddle power, love that 7'er!

Yeah JB I am waiting to take mine out but I just need to get a deck pad and position it, can you please tell me where does your chest go on the deck / about how far from the nose? as I want to use as little deck pad as possible and also to correctly position / mark where my front foot will go / sit (maybe with a bit of raised grip / deck pad similar to a strap / hook?;-)
thanks (also I am thinking about using webbed gloves for even more take off power:-)

Maybe easier to wax it for a couple sessions and mark what works for you and your foil?.
Please post your impressions on the board once you ride it, i like the midlenght foil concept a lot!.

Great I just watched the video, also do you position your Mast all the way to the front of the Box/s or not? maybe to reduce the length of the board?:-)

Yes, I mount all the way forward!
I think loosely my feet are on the colour changes in the graphic (if you have the same model). I'll take some dims of my setup and post them up shortly.

Measures taken from the tail.

The back of my deck pad is at 425mm. I never step off the back of it either.

The front of the deck pad is at 1395mm. It could maybe be a little shorter, but it is in a good spot for lying far forward for power paddling.

My front foot is generally around 1140mm when I am up and sorted. +/- a foot print for different sized foils and waves, but pretty much there.

As mentioned above, I mount the foil all the way forward. If you were to mount the foil more aft then you'd want to have more pad further back (but I love it all the way forward).

JB

Great thanks JB I will start applying my deck pad & tail pad today as it is pretty important to me to position everything perfectly as I am just can not good enough to make do with things as they are & I will up date any future findings & developments etc:-)
I tired my Naish today in small 1ft waves & swell (using my Foil Drive some how) and it appears to go really well, I had a 45cm mast positioned midway with a 1550v1 & 300 tail / 60 fuse & managed to get a sort of 2 for one/s but I am a total prone beginner so excellent for my real first go at it, I will try without the Foil Drive next time (maybe webbed gloves) and a bigger front wing probably 1550v2 and I should be really light and flying then, (I am still sorting out my deck pad / grip for the best position/s:-)
Picked up one of these recently so I can get into proning, when there is no wind or surfable waves
Board is great to paddle & get into waves, coming from a mostly longboard background and having been winging for 10 months
My question to the brains trust is not so much about the board rather my only foil is the Konrad SS1900
I'm 85 kegs
I have waited until the surf was tiny & caught a few which were fine to get the pop up going however....
When I paddled for a larger wave lying as far forward as possible the board just lifted up & breached with me hanging on like a monkey on a stick
Must have looked as funny as phuk
I had the foil as far back as possible
Question is that size foil too large for proning anything above knee high?
Of course when I wingding thing it I can sheet out to control speed etc
If it is too large what size do people suggest for a learning proner
Or should I just HTFU, get back out there even more forward
Thanks in advance
Imo you will speed up your progression by getting another smaller front wing around 1500cm.
But if it's allways tiny at your local you could just persist with the 1900.
Hdip, thanks I hadn't got to my feet was still lying down which made it quite the ride![]()
Bloody thing just rose straight up & breached, slapped back down then shot straight up again, meanwhile I'm hanging on for dear life![]()

Toppleover, Thanks that was my thought just wanted to validate.
Coolum so not always small wanting to get started on those small days when its too small to surf & the crowds are low
That's just part of learning to prone foil. You can buy as much gear as you have money in this sport. Yes, newer gear that is properly matched to the conditions will make it easier. You can just pick better conditions to match the gear you have though. Plus move forward on the board when dropping in. Get to your feet faster, then more front foot. :)
My first foil was a NP Glide size L, was getting smashed on the L (1-3') so bought the M size wing - much easier and only used the Large in tiny conditions (0.5').
