Hilly I might be wrong but I think he uses the flat tail with the turned up tips.
No idea what he uses. He rips ![]()
- new flat wings in testing (I tried one today)
- GF has a bunch of new wings and equipment landing soon
Do you mean new front wings? Is it something between high performance GL and fat old wings?
Mainly tail wings. Then some new front wings will be added, pedestals.
How did you feel the bottom mount tails worked versus the top? Also, any insight into the new front wings?
Iv got one but yet to use it. Alex told me it's got better pump due to the whole surface being on the water with no fuselage/pedestal breaking the contact like the top mount.
the bottom mounted pedestal I have is the fuselage shortener. This will give the foil more turn ability. Iv also got the two prototype flip tip tails. 14.5" & 17.5"
will be interesting to see how they perform but now I'm home and finding foil waves is harder than been on Maui :(

He uses a really small flat tail. But he's not a big guy either. His board was like 4'4 JL sup

Thanks! In addition to a feeling of less turnability, sometimes the top mount tail also breaches easier than the Maliko and Kai tails so that may be another benefit to the bottom mount. Will be looking forward to your reviews!
Hi Go Foil Experts. I am using a GL 240 with the Kai tail wing and love the set up ! I am wondering what the Pedestal tail wing would bring to the set up.
anyone has photos of the Kai tail compared to the pedestal ? And Witch one to pick ?

You'll get more speeeed with the flat tail & pedestal. the pedestal makes the fuselage longer & has better glide and pump. You can change the angle of attach with the pedestal by using 1mm washers that come with it.
ill attach pics soon of the size differences
Nice and any word on the new proto GF rear wings .

It was only a matter of time before someone asked. they won't be available for a while yet though.
thanks for the pics pohaku and it looks you can mount those wing tip both top or bottom judging from the tapered head, is that right.
Do you know when we can hope to see new things from Gofoil ?
I'm guessing 2 to 3 months away?

Yes I have with the 280. The new flat tail feels good with the old wings too but I only use this flat tail wing for downwind. I used it surfing a couple of times but I prefer the old Maliko tail. The flatter tail doesn't feel as drivey for surfing but I am looking forward to trying the new one with the bent tips which I am guessing will give more of that "on rail" feel. All personal I think.
I agree. I also use the new flat (wide) tail stab with my maliko 280 & 200 & IWA when I'm wing foiling, but for surfing I use the maliko tail as it gives more stability when surfing, and more control through turns. Having said that I haven't tried the new tail stab for surfing yet - must try that sometime for a comparison. The flat tail stab is faster and smoother which is great for wing foiling, whereas the maliko tail feels like it maxes out real quick when wing foiling - sort of feels like it causes the whole foil to trip up when at speed.
I'd love to hear from anyone who has used the new tail stabs with the up/down turned winglets. I can't believe they are just for safety, although I can see that this could be an added bonus. I saw a youtube vid where Austin Kalama said he constantly swaps his front and rear wings around to see what each new combo feels like, and he was referring to both of the new tail stab designs. Shame he didn't elaborate.
From the little I know about winglet design I would have thought they may add a bit of yaw stability while still retaining the speed and smooth glide???? So possibly the better option for surfing???? That's my hope anyway
Like you said - it's all personal!!!!!

2.1kg but I'll have to use proper scales somewhere

I have both the 14.5 & 17.5 flipped tip and the bottom mount pedestal. I use the 14.5 with the gl140 or 180 in the surf. Gives off a bit more bit but keeps speed. Doesn't feel slippery.
they will be on the market in a few months.

Hi Pohaku. Has the new 28.5 mast/plate got the wider chord of the 29.5 mast? It looks very shiny
. Cheers

Nah, so the 28.5 plate mast is 120mm chord by 12mm thick. The 29.5 tuttle is 137mm by 14mm thick.
things are changing though

Sounds good. Looks like I'll have to give the 'wingtip' tail stab a try!!!!!!![]()
Hang about..
A longer fuse can't be better to pump. Longer moment etc It may be faster with the flat tail.
Haven't they just released a shortened pedestal with a bottom mount stab for this reason, better pumping more surfy loose feel? When is that available and photo!
