Nice to see you enjoying Magnetic. Maggy Race Week is on soon isn't it?
While you are there you should visit Horse Shoe Bay. It probably still has the largest community of eccentrics in Australia. ![]()
You might even get a good massage there.
Heading back south, more whales than I have ever seen from Townsville down to Kepple. 4 times closer than 40 meters, and none of them knew the collision rules. Up to 12 a day and all still heading north.
Anchored at the Palm group of islands. 3.7 knots of wind so slould be a great night. Water temp is 25 deg so I will be in for a snorkel very shortly.

Heading out to the outer reef today (Britomart Reef) Conditions are perfect, true wind speed .5 knots. Had a fantastic day at Zoe Bay yesterday The weather gods are really look after us.

I have a Deck Tec and was having troubles with it but I brought a new booster and it fixed the problem. Worth a try.
We are on our way home from Hamilton Island. My very talented crew put together a short video of the week. Enjoy!

Really nice production.
Thanks EC31 brought back some great memories of my week at HIRW a few years ago.
Making me rethink my decision to list Seabird for sale.![]()
Thanks for the video EC, that was excellent.
Can you get a bigger headsail? The one in Race 1/2 looks enormous.

It was actually race 3, we used the lightweight 150% for the first time in 6 knots of breeze. Absolutely brilliant upwind. We went round the top mark with a Hanse 415 & NorthShore 38 and just behind 2 Oceanis 43. Pole wasn't long enough for it to work properly downwind. ![]()
Still having an awesome time up here. Can't imagine work in the cold down south
. Any one that has ever dreamed of coming north should make the effort. Today we snorkelled the giant Clam garden on Orpheus Island, totally amazing.

Can't quite remember the actual story about them clams but I think it was something to do with commercial farming back in the day. The water is mercy and some hungry little sharks there. I did a solo dive around 5 to 8 meters one arvo about 5 years ago!

The farming was a huge success. So much so that they bought in the US military to remove a lot of them and they were sent all over the world to boost Clam populations where they were having problems.
I took the photo below today. You can see a mix of dead and live clams.

That's right I remember all the dead ones and the razor fish type dead shells ...was quite spooky dive.
Need to go north of lizard island on the ribbon reefs for the good clean ones! Apparently the lizard island ones where also farmed.
Beautiful sunset at Dunk Island

Hi John. As you are at Dunk it is just a short trip out to Bowden Island and I assure you well worth the effort.
Bowden Island was one of the visiting places on my Marine Park Permit and during a passage south I took the trouble to visit it.
I am so glad I did as it is forever etched in my memory. It is just a tiny little island but incredibly beautiful.
The north side anchorage is good for a southerly. You will figure it out.
P.S. The sunset photo will top the one you posted.
My trip for this year is over. Didnt get to have that beer cisco it will have to be next year now. Even though i didnt get to my intended destination i still won. This is the furthest north ive sailed, met some wonderfull people and havent laughed so much in years.. And only ran aground twice

She will stay on the hard till next year when I go back , will anti foul and go north from Bundy. Met a few up there that do that as well.

I am sure we will still have beer in Bundaberg next year.![]()
If you only wanted to store your boat during the cyclone/flood season, say for a couple of months, leaving it on Bundaberg Port Marina is safe. During the last big floods there was no damage there.
If you need to store it for say 6 months or more, hauling out is the way to go.
I believe storage there is much more economical than points north.
We are finally heading south from Townsville at 6.00am this morning. The weather is about 12kn NE and we are currently motor sailing at just under 10kn. Our original intention was to overnight at Cape Upstart but the weather is so good we are going straight to Gloucester which should have us there by about 6.30pm.
Our current track can be viewed on the website below.
