And there were only 11 models, and a former miss Australia as one of the judges.
A modicum of concentration on the sailing part was needed...

I think we're gonna need some pics!!!

Just for you buddy
All pics and kudos belong to Vogue Cosmetica Academy who put it together, the two girls who run it worked their butts off that day, with girls changing outfits and hairstyles and god knows what else, it was like controlled chaos.
I was just the bus driver...

Phoebe Hang by Ben Graham

Lara Gibson by Chris Dahmen.

Our guests....I won't tell you how much they weighed but we were still 1800kgs short of max tare.

Amy Heller by Ben Graham

VCA Director Rohina and friends! Apparently it is considered good form to tag the girls names and the photog when using their photos hence the real names.

Edit: We were spotted by one of the crew off another boat from the club who was drinking in town, so my name is now officially mud because I didn't invite the 100 extra crew that are now sticking up their hands...sigh.

Now this really is boat porn, in a nice way.
I am sure it was fun.

Can you have a pre-where did you go post?
Prep work before the start of the B2K race tomorrow morning at 11am. The forecast is for 12-20 knots SE, but we;ll need to get out of the bay and offshore quickly to avoid getting caught in a lower pressure line that will creep up and out over the bay from the SW.

It looks like a fair bit of VMG running, about 150-160 TWA, so I am trying a new sail combo of using the staysail with the vmg kites. This is a bit abnormal , as the staysail is normally for reaching inside a reaching kite.

But after speaking with a few gurus, I think it will actually work. The main reason is by using the staysail I am narrowing the slot between main and spinnaker, which will force the airflow over the inside of the spinnaker to accelerate. This effect also causes an acceleration of the flow on the leeward surface of the kite as the air tries to match velocities as it comes off the leach. The faster and more matched the airflow is when leaving the leach, the less laminar separation and the more lift the sail generates.

The key to making ihis sail choice work is to not overtrim the staysail, you want it eased to where it is almost permanently luffing. If you overtrim the staysail, you cause the air to separate off the sail and create turbulence on the lee face, which causes the spinnaker clew that is to leeward to get sucked in (bad). That's the good thing about long distance, you have the chance to try things for 30 mins or so to see if you've improved or dropped speed, and then adjust to suit.

Down to the last item on the checklist, which has more poignancy this time as my 16yr old daughter is coming with us on her first ocean race. Now to get a good sleep, one final prayer to the weather gods, and fingers crossed we can stay in the pressure.
If you want to follow the race ( and watch all of my mistakes in real time! ) we're on Yellow brick, see the link following

Good luck to all the boats and competitors, stay safe and hoping for a great tussle!

Strewth shaggy, I don't like the look of that leg you have from Indian Head to Breaksea Spit light.

Are you counting on an extra high tide and lifting the keel??

HI Cisco,

Yep, when they say follow the Rhumb line one hold not take it too literally!!
I am worried about Breaksea Spit to the finish, in the wind stays SE the asymmetrical guys will pole back and sail the rhumb line. I'm trying to work out how I can use the tides to determine my gybe points to see if I can eke out an advantage over the ddw boats so I have paper everywhere , on the floor and stuck on the walls covered in pencil drawings .... I wish I could do this instinctively!

Boty,
The biggest boat is Smuggler the Rogers 46 who will be licking their lips for this forecast. I don't see any weak spots for that boat, so I don't think we have a chance for LH. Might have to do a Boty and try and sweep the the handicap tin cups!

Sailed (motored) into Port Adelaide where there are a couple of free berths. Spent the night and walked to the new Pirate life brewery which was awesome. Good beer, open fires and plenty of stuff for the kids to do. Have a lovely light wind sail home. Fantastic being a tourist in your own town. Close to home meant we had cars so we could still get the kids to sports so win/win for everyone.

Last race of the season on Sunday - crew snapped a great photo of me!

Planeray,
I love how far back the jib clew comes!! How many 100%'s is that bloody headsail?

Well, it is only a tiny boat (22 ft), but yeh, as a guesstimate, it'd come back almost a metre from the mast.

Does mean the crew has to be a bit awake when tacking, but such a difference from my tiny self tacking Soling jib downwind!

Point Cartwright on the nose, heading 120, wind NW at 160 TWA, about 300nm to go. Thinking of the winds down south, I'm not complaining it's light airs

Hi Lydia,
we've just got a 10 knot NNW, but prior to that was a lot of nothing.
I'm 38nm north of Bundaberg and losing the will to live, I hate motorsailing

Edit: scrap last correspondence, I've just tagged a yacht against the shore on our beam heading south.
Its a race!
Hmm...AIS shows her name as Trybooking. Anybody know a yacht that name? She's slippery enough. I have to go trim, they've got an extra .1 of a knot on me....grrr.

Nooooo......the gunpowder makes the Sundowners taste terrible.
And I don't have enough freeboard to open the porthole without sinking.
Now, if you can hit the remoras without blowing a bloody great hole in my transom we might be onto something
bastard things, I was doing 10's trying to shake them off, no chance, they're like limpets.

You know when you anchor up after a day of sailing and you've finished dinner and relaxing with a drink, and you realise you're feeling too lazy to clean up? Anchored up off Double Island Point, push home in the morning.
Detrius of a day on the water...I'll clean up in the morning

Yes it is a FARR 7500, the other boat is a 22 ft wooden boat that my friend built himself from a UK design, will ask him about the designer . Great Boat and gets a lot of attention when its out and about, He also beat us to and from Werribee but that may have been sailing skills .. but then at least I get a comfy bed.

Double Island Point an sunrise yesterday. The Moreton Bay mud footprints are courtesy of cleaning a dirty anchor well, grrr, I should run a hose up to the anchor well for this exact reason. .

I've been wanting to try and do a panoramic shot with an Iphone after seeing on Seabreeze some cool photos with it. The NW wind made anchoring up behind the Point really rolly, and warning! An IPhone needs to be apparently stable to the earth to make it look good. I was panning slowly to the right and the little line looked like a crazy drunk I was rolling so much, it was absolutely impossible to hold the phone straight enough.
This photography stuff I really enjoy, but I'm not naturally good at it. I need to get a good boat camera.
Not my best picasso moment, need one of those gymbal thingys next.
