I don't need to know the gender or sexualalty, does the public really need to Know?? I would just want to know their ability , why would they want you to know or who wants you to know ?
You completely missed the point. You said "it's not hard to see why one may question the ability of a person when their gender or what they want to screw is often first and foremost." But no one has given ANY evidence that the RNZN captain's sexuality is "first and foremost". Her gender is no more "first and foremost" than any guy who is a captain. No one said that she wants the public to know about her sexuality, any more than a straight male captain wants the public to know about their sexuality.
You keep on implying that this captain put her gender and sexuality "first and foremost" and that she wants the public to know about them - but there is zero evidence that she has done so. Her sexuality was only brought up here by Jules, for example, who then made insinuations against her.
The only people who seem to think her gender and sexuality should be a deal are the people who are insinuating she was a DEI appointment, apparently because they believe that women can't run a ship on their own merits.
+ 1000.
Since so many here seem to be incapable of understanding my initial point how's this for another laugh.
The ship now identifies as "was/were".
(Don't forget to take your blood pressure pills).
BTW anyone know who the president of the BOI will be? Hopefully not someone like MOD woman who seems to think the whole episode was something to be proud of.
No Chris, you completely missed my point.
If Dei/affirmative action didn't exist in this world, we probably wouldn't be having this conversation.

Jules the problem is simply bringing gender into a discussion about a grounding.
You are entitled to your views and I'm sure there are plenty of places you can air them.
As I said - the forum's for everyone - which means let's keep gender, race, religion and politics out of our discussions so that the maximum number of people can feel good about participating.
I'm not cool with people directing personal remarks at you about it but by doubling down you're not helping.
If it's a wind-up, again there is Sailing Anarchy for that. I avoid SA because even as a white male I find the sexist racist **** they put on there an embarrassment to the sport.

No, we would be having this conversation, because it's about BS, sexism and bigotry, and they existed long before DEI was ever thought of.
Here and in many other places it has been implied (or just stated) that this captain was a "DEI hire" when there is no evidence at all for that. It has also been claimed or implied that she is being treated differently since the grounding because of her gender and sexuality, when there is no evidence for that at all. The problem is not DEI, the problem is the people who make that sort of rubbish up.
The fact that so many people are bigoted and make up BS against some people shows that there is a need for DEI.

Sorry if my posts make you uncomfortable, but it's also reasonable to say that when one side starts throwing around insults (not just at the RNZN but at "intellectual minnows" here) we shouldn't just roll over. It's also perfectly reasonable to point out when one side is making inferences or claims that are simply untrue. Surely truth trumps everything.
I'm a straight white male but my work has shown me the consequences of the sort of bias we've seen here, and that makes it hard to soft-pedal my opposition to it.
Bout time we ended this drivel isn't it.
This and this alone.
We are better than this.
