Still looking for a dinghy. I did buy a 2.2m Devilcat secondhand for $800, but as it looks brand new I've realised it is far too flash to leave lying around. D'oh! It's bloody heavy too - almost 30kgs. It's heavier than my last one that didn't have flotation.
I did manage to buy an OK Avon 8' Redstart, which is the one that lacks a transom, but obviously I can't leave that lying around too, but that is ok as I just wanted it to travel with. It doesn't have an outboard mount and they are seemingly impossible to obtain.
I also bought a sit on kayak, but it's heavy for what it is and I didn't like getting my arse wet.
I also have a 3m slat floored PVC inflatable that came with the boat , but it weighs 40kgs or so I will sell that.
So, I'm still looking for a light stable dinghy that nobody would want to steal and can be easily hawled on deck, so as to not to alert the waterway dudes. What are those 2m snub nosed dinghies like to lift and stand up in?
Unfortunately you have realized it doesn't exist. The perfect tender. Always a balance of steal-a-bility, stability and weight.
I settled on a long nose fiberglass thing that has very little buoyancy and a wooden plank as a seat. I don't know the brand. Reason is its very light and looks like a sh1t so no one will steal it (kept on public rack). I can just about lift it with one arm. However it is not very stable and only really suitable for two people. We have had three but its no good in heavy chop. I put a 2hp on the back which pushes it along well. Im guessing its similar to the 2m snub nose, and im guessing you wouldn't want to stand up in it. You have to keep low centre of gravity and move around v slowly.
A mate of mine has a Highfiled tender (I think its the roll up air deck), they are the lightest in their class as they have an aluminum transom. Its the bees knees but I reckon it would get stolen. Very stable. Check them out. The 2m is a measly 15kg. He has had it a while and it is well made, not one of the rubbish imports.
No affiliation with this place but I think this is where it was purchased.

Next door neighbor has a 6ft aluminium dinghy called a 'sea-all' (I think) Big enough for two. Stability's a bit iffy though.
If weight is an issue, perhaps wheels could help. Of course that depends on how far you need to move it and the terrain. I also have a Highfield 2.4 with an aluminium floor (custom mod). With the wheels I can move it anywhere. And it is stable, plus it can be rolled up (which we did for the trip to Hammo and back). It is very stealable (been tried twice already).
But my mates crappy snub nose was stolen from the same rack area, so it all depends on what they can resell and how quickly. And how big the bolt cutters they carry with them......

Stasha or a Fliptail
they are light and they fit in places nothing else will.
Still looking for a dinghy. I did buy a 2.2m
Looks like 2m inflatables is smallest thing of this kind, they do have slated floor (which is "pain ...").
Mercury inflatables does make 2m / 2 adults size with air deck. Deck is stiff to walk on untill damaged.
Myself, I did made fibreglass floor (V shape) inside. Im now able to "cart" rough/sharp corners/edges items without feare it may damage original "floor membrame" ha ha. Yes, with some "out of box.....". I do have little ,2m long, kind of RIB which I do carry partialy inflated in the back of my XTrail every time to and from boat ramp.
To make this dink move trough water I do use 2.3 Air cooled Honda not as previously quoted 6hp long leg, ha ha ha.

If you can find one in good condition an Avon Redcrest is unbeatable.
I scored this one in Sydney 4 years ago off Gumtree for $300 with a Mercury 4 hp which ended up being worth nothing.

We just made this. Origami folding dingy
Super easy to make
Fits on 25ft tophat very easily
like it very simple and light might benefit with rowlocks
I went with a portabote after stepping straight through the floor of my zodiac one cold morning ( great way to wake up) the portabote is a bit of a struggle to construct on deck if the boats rolling around but it's great to have a larger tender without having a larger yacht ![]()
