I choose not to jump.
Why would you not? Unless you're on a directional...
Obviously a grass mower ....... with a leash
..
1) The person flying the kite is in control of the launch. The person holding your kite is not responsible for your ****ty launch, it is up to YOU to get in the right position (ie. NOT upwind of the person holding your kite)
..
I was nodding and agreeing with everything you said, until you said the above in bold.
NOooooooo....
Kiter MUST go upwind to stabalise the kite ready to give the thumbs up! If they go DOWN wind, the kite will not start to catch wind and will flap even more. I am surprised you said that really.

Surprised none of the instructors didnt go down there quick and help them to decide to walk 200m out to safety. Do you guys get those tickets out of weetbix packets?
Really? You really think instructors give a toss? LOL

Actually most instructors do give a toss, but are normally focused on the safety of the student directly under our instruction/care.
Imagine if we left our paying student to help someone who didn't assess the spot and hazards for whatever reason and the paying student ended up getting in a pickle/hurt? Imaging the outcry from that? Not to mention the rest of the butthurt that goes with it for the business and the instructor.
Looking like another busy weekend on the water coming up
So I went out and bought me a new bit of kit
Board Leash Hacks.....BEWARE!
I will also be available to launch and land ur kite............................single handedly ![]()
Really everyone on the beach should give a toss .If you see someone obviously doing something dangerous or about to do something dangerous or stupid you and or others should say something.
Whether it' s pointing out the dangers to someone using a leash , or pumping up a kite that's obviously beyond their control capabilities , or some newby launching too hot or to close to trees or rocks ect , ..the list goes on and on
Reality there is big potential for someone , whether it be the kiter themselves or some poor innocent bystander possibly a member of the public or one of our kids , to be hurt or killed .
At the end of the day is bad for the people involved , the witnesses and the whole sport in general , we really don't need any bad publicity.
Back to leashes , most people who use them are not aware of the dangers , and it's obviously an easy way for beginners who don't know any better and have probably not been instructed in their coarse ,to keep their board nearby , and those who are too scared to swim with the big grey fishies with teeth as bit of a security blanket. If you insist on using one for gods sake wear a helmet and impact vest at least.
Best location for board leashes is the wonderful shear water. It has a lot less obstructions and less shallow sand bars unlike kfc. Plus shear water has some of the best instructors teaching their on a regular basis. As its a great place to learn.

Lost in space. ..im just looking forward to carving it up on the Broadwater. After an extreme hot week. Nothing better than the tranquility of the flat water at kfc. Wind or no wind.
I want a leash now... join the cool kids... think I would get slammed for a having a leash with boots? Could be a new fashion statement :D

why don't you jump that is the whole fun of the sport!
Reading this thread I realise it is very unsafe for everyone (public, tourists & local kiters plus anyone else in the local vicinity) where kitesurfing is occurring on the GC. There will be people who's agenda is to ban the sport form their local beaches. This thread will help support their cause.
I am glad we have none of these issues in Brisbane or the Sunshine Coast, where we hold safety above all else; for the general public, visitors and locals alike. It's so safe up here we have more injuries occur at the lawn bowls club.
Did I mention how safe kitesurfing is in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast
MOST PROBLEMS COME FROM BLOW IN NOOBS FROM BRISBANE AND SUNSHINE COAST, thats why you dont have issues as their all down at Lodders Gold Coast..![]()
