Kited past a three metre hammerhead on a 40km outer reef downwinder through exmouth area the other week..no ****....the dude even splashed with his/her head out of the water..seriously cool..
.. And she was just 30m from shore
was kiting in FIJI and was wondering why there was a massive rock in the middle of the ocean, then realised it was floating, thought it was rubbish. When i went and inspected realised it had flippers, was a massive sea turtle, was very cool.
Kiting at Tarcoola Beach In Geraldton and 20 meters in front of me just cruising along in the wall of some swell was a 5 meter great white shark....Nothing white about it. It was black. Thought it was a killer whale at first. Scary but kind of cool. I don't think it knew I was there....I like to tell myself that anyway.
Had a kangaroo swimming past me at my local a few years back.
Found him dead on the beach a couple of hours later.
... mentally blacklists Geraldton
Up at Cairns, kited next to a large Manta Ray, and was constantly trying to avoid hitting turtles putting their heads up wondering wtf I was.
Every sunny day.... that damn kite shark appears!
That guy scares the **** out of me

That dark body of water moves so quickly when Im body dragging.
There is a dugong living in the Horrocks lagoon that occasionally gives us a bit of a scare..
Don't talk of the local girls like that, is she still there Dave? 1st sighting was about this time last year, great to hear it's still knocking around, not a bad spot to live but
Dolphins are always floating around the bay in Lancelin, I've popped over one feeding in two feet of water on the back beach side, we were both very surprised. Seals are occasionally around as well, I played something resembling hide-n-seek with one once, I was doing short 20m tacks, he kept popping up behind me after I turned, I knew he was there but when I turned and looked at him he ducked under, I turned and we swapped places, it went on for about ten minutes. Clearly a game for both of us ![]()

You're right mick disappeared over winter and came back a month or so ago. Hoping to see you again I reckon !
Kiting around a reef, saw a large log, hoped over it, it was a shark,
Turned around to head back to the beach, some euro was tail gating me and put his kite through my kite lines.
Both floating neck deep in water tangled kites 1k out to sea with a shark log some where near by.

I got followed for about 3-4k's across Warnbro Sound by a large tiger a couple of yrs ago. Had my heart racing - to say the least.
Ran straight over a 4 ft hammer head at
Narrabeen beach NSW
The best one was about 1km off Long Reef
NSW on my tack back to Fisherman's beach
When a flying fish took flight right next to me

Not kiting but sailing, found a live cow that had been washed out of the Fitzroy river flailing about 5 miles offshore. Well it was alive till I tried to lash it to the side of the boat and take it to a nearby island, poor bugger drowned from exhaustion. Wasn't much call for steak on the good ship after that one, which seemed a waste considering what had just been delivered to us.
2 seasons ago off South Trigg, dropped my kite past the breakers. While trying to relaunch a seal pops up right next to me furiously munching on an octopus (or something) while trying to figure out what the hell I was doing in his 'hood. Funny as hell. Nothing like kiting in Ma Nature.
Whales, dolphins (today, in fact), turtles, sharks (spooked one at Palm Beach 2 days ago), and plenty of kooks.
Seen one of those endangered species poledancers yesterday, poor old thing looked like very lonely by itself, use to see herds of them years ago,
now mankind has almost wiped this species out all in the pursuit of better, faster technology, so sad![]()
Was a buzz to see one in its natural environment,,, rare to witness, instead of in captivity (old age home )
lol
I was living in Darwin in the early eighties and was windsurfing out on Fanny Bay, good wind for up there of around 15 kts, and I hit what felt like a submerged log. The impact was enough to throw me off my board and I thought that I had knocked the fin off, so I turned the board over and luckily, it was OK. As I was doing this, I then saw what I had hit, and guess what? It was not a log, but a very pissed off 4 metre croc!! I did the fastest ever water start in history and sailed back in, and he followed me for a short time and then lost interest!![]()
