Ta Dusta, I'm terrible at funerals, don't like em hey.

I did my own prayer this arvo in the water. Damn brings me to tears when I think about that little boy asking where his dad is, just totally fcked hey. Having a small boy myself makes it more real.

I'm up for a donation, let us know when something is under way.

Terrible news to hear of a fellow kiter meeting such an end, even worse when it is someone you've shared the waves with at your home beach. I'm sure the place wont seem the same to many without him, and not a session will go by without a moment of reflection had for the terrible shame it is how someone can lose their life doing the very thing that makes them feel so alive. My thoughts to his family and friends at this time, such a character will surely be eternally reminisced by all who knew him.

So sad to read. The thoughts of fellow kite boarders from all around the country go out to Marc, his family, friends and those on the beach. Wiping away a tear, thinking about his family, and how this could have been me or someone I know. RIP.

To all those who were there, if your like me you are struggling a bit, maybe having a few flashbacks... Remember to keep talking to those you love.

Was he riding most of the time with an Ozone Edge yellow/red/black? Often on Melville beach?

I'm up for a donation too!

Super sad news to hear of this accident...

From Northern California, I am a long way away, but would be happy to help donate some cash or something to his family.

Got three boys...2.5, 5 and 15 and could not fathom never being able to say good bye or losing the chance to see them grow into young men.

Going kiting today and for once since my original lessons, I am going to start wearing a helmet.

Let us know how we can donate.

RIP Marc

Terrible, terrible news.

Great to see how the kiting (and ever reliable medical ) communities have pulled together here. Just a crying shame its on account of such an awful tragedy...I never met him but he sounds like he was held in the highest regards of all who did.

Maybe time for a local dialect spot rename ........"Sprods"

RIP

Great Idea.
The "Phone Box" is pretty inappropriate as there hasnt been a phone box there for the past 10 yrs or so.
Would be a great memorial & a great reminder to ALL for the need to be vigilant.

Kiters should also be reminded that launching & landing from "Sprods" is not allowed under council by-laws.
Cottesloe was the very 1st council stouch WAKSA was ever involved with. Thanks to some serious effort by WAKSA; & particularly Johno Keys; we saved the day for this great stretch of beach by agreeing to only using the beaches south of "Sprods" for launching & landing.
From memory the concern was that the footpath & road were too close to the beach at this point. A valid concern.

to a friend that was always there to lend a hand, give advice, cover your back if things go wrong.

i went out on a new surfboard at pelican point, got all screwed up and ended down near the freeway. unbeknown to me marc jumped in his van, drove around to the freeway, up and over the canning hwy exit, parked in the breakdown lane, jumped the fence and walked out to waist deep to asset me...... at that point the wind picked up and i managed to get back up wind to where i started. marc came up to me after i came in, had a chat and said we were watching out for you... it was only later that another friend told me what marc did...

and one of coldshot posts about his beloved shinn monk........

I like to go flat out and this board just hold the the edge like a bullet train, I should know as I'm an ex train driver!
Pops outa the water like a NASA rocket! The other day I popped so much I left a flag next to the American's on the MOON!
Go hard or go home!!!!
Marc

sincere thanks to all that helped marc.....

Well I never knew the guy though I think we had met a couple of times, but he sounded like an absolute legend. Never known such honest affection for someone in our sport. Such a bloody terrible loss hey. It's actually sad but at the as time awesome reading these stories.

Is there any plans for a beach memorial ceremony like a paddle out or something similar by the kiting and surfing comunity?

I was kiting in simmilar conditions down at surf beach Secret Harbour and am still shocked how it happened

there will be a memorial service with his ashes but give it time . The family and friends are still grieving and once the funeral is finished we will start planning a service down at the beach , probably leighton .

I'm actually in tears reading the comments. Didn't know him in person but sounds like he was the essence of what the sport is about. Having fun and sharing it with others.
Most sincere condolences to family and friends!
Thanks to dusta for setting up the donation account. Let's try to help the family as much as we can!

OMFG!!!
So sad to hear this, condolences to his family friends and fellow kiters over in WA regarding this freak accident.
Probably a red thumb here, but I've learnt an important lesson from this, because I too am guilty of staying out on the water even when I've reached the top end of my 3 kites wind ranges, but now I will be seriously reconsidering ignoring that gut feeling I get everytime I'm overpowered and think I can stay in control of everything.
Hmmm going kiting this Wkend just doesn't carry that same excitement knowing what's just happened

So, so sad. Just been watching the trees starting to bend nicely with the wind, but my heart didn't feel up to a kite. Then I thought to myself, this guy sounded like the type of bloke that would absolutely want us to be out there doing what he obviously loved so much.
Sincerest condolences and prayer's to his family and mates.

Yeh went for another morning raid today and I can say i totally relate to what you are saying above. His wife has said get out there and yell and yeeha, which is awesome advice, but I must admit, there is not much of that coming from me. Just a meditative cruise and a good old think. Heavy hearted for sure so I can only imagine what you guys who knew him are going through.

Wasnt a close freind but kited with marc many times over the years when i lived in WA , now back in Qld i will allways think of him and his passion for life when im heading out for a session , and will remember allways the way that the kite community have rallied behind his family on this very sad time.
The messages have brought tears to my eyes and if any of us could be respected half as much as marc we will be doing well .
Im sure hes looking down on us and Yahoo....ing , he would be so proud of all of you guys, especially you Dusta.

Thanks for the kind words bear. I went down to.the site today and said my goodbyes and then went to Melville to try and kite. The bastard took the wind away from me and no doubt he was laughing at me. Miss him so much and I am so proud of what the community has done to help me provide for Milo's future. All the bitching and trolling that goes on is good fun but when it matters everyone bands together. Proud to be a kiter
