Hello, I've just completed my second lesson of Kitesurfing. I need more practice just keeping the kite in a position without letting it go down. Would anyone let me use one of their old kites just on the beach for a bit of a play?

Cheers, Jukesy

Hey Jukesy,
Don't let all the red thumbs put you off. It's good to see a young fella with a little bit of initiative having a go. The fact that you have already had a couple of lessons suggests that you have at least some degree of self preservation. It's one thing to be introduced to the sport by an eager parent or older sibling, but to be proactively chasing a passion that is not well supported or encouraged, takes a bit of nous and for that I commend you. Some of the comments you read above would suggest that our 'old kites' are worth a small fortune when in fact they are worth nothing at all. There are over 1000 second hand kites for sale on the Buy & Sell section most of which will never sell. This means you are in the box seat to pick up a handy little starter for dirt cheap. I have to agree with Nathe. Don't be to proud, pick up a few jobs around the neighbourhood, mowing lawns, washing cars and you will soon have a tidy $500 that should get you a post 2010 9 or 10 meter kite. I would encourage you to purchase the Progression beginner DVD, being 15 you will soak it up like a sponge. Finally, I see no issue with your original question as most of us will have a spare 'old kite' lying around and if you lived in my locality I would have no issue loaning it to you under my supervision. Best of luck.

Best response and advice yet IMO.

I started off at 13 with only lessons from friends and a borrowed 10m kite from a mate. I regret not taking proper lessons because I did hurt myself badly a couple of times at the beginning but at the time there were no proper lessons where I was. Nowadays there are great lessons and gear available at a relatively affordable price. I had to work hard to buy crap old kit and my parents helped me out where they could as well. If your budget is small, that's okay you can definitely still get some working gear at a good price. My suggestion is to go slow, be safe, and ask your local kiters' advice on kit. Don't just get one opinion, get many. And spend as much time at the beach as you can. Launch and land kites. Be helpful. Be positive. People will want to help you out if you pay your dues and help them out. And never forget that if you relentlessly harass your parents they may help you out more!

Don't get too excited DJ, the red thumbs are because you want to "borrow" a 15y/o's girlfriend. That puts her age between 14-16.. it's sick.

Pedobear or denise ferguson might green thumb you but the rest of us will not.

PM me if you're ever in Melbourne. I'd like to meet you face to face.

An invitation from Melbournes own mother teresa Macster. I cant see myself ever being in Melbourne for reasons I dont have to list - but I will just to bring the red thumb out one more time. * AFL * Espresso alfresco every 5m * Falafel joints every other 5m * Druggies floating down the yarra but most of all the climate. Ill extend the invitation your way though,QLD, now that would be no skin off my nose.

That's great you guys helped him out ,but I still reckon young guys should work for what they want it teaches them the wrong message always getting stuff for free. I myself have always paid for me boards and surfing equipment since I was 13.. I bet majority of people on here have aswell
