Is there a Kitesurfing Travel consultant on SB that is across all of the different AUS options to help find a winter escape ?? I so need a break and am looking at options to grab a 7 or 10 day trip and bascially spend the time on the water.
Options? Far north qld (been there 2 years ago ) - great but costs around 3K for the week all inclusive , Lord Howe island ?? - seems to be a PITA to get to ? and not sure how reliable the winds really are ? seems they rely on tail end of southern fronts to get a good blow (and here in Vic southerly fronts are only every 7 days at best ) - doesnt sound too reliable .
Exmouth WA - predominant wind looks to be NW so write that option off , Where else??
AUS to expesive go somewhere else o you will be drinking water and bread, but AUS is amazing . The wind cant be warranty but the waves are plenty cheers
Do yourself a favour and book in a trip to LHI. Look up Oxley travel or talk to Dave Gardiner (62Dave), 7 days flights and accom ex-Syd start at under $2k,talk to them about travel insurance so you dont burn your hard earnt ($120+ for coverage)
Theres a few spots to kite in different wind directions and if you cant kite then the island has heaps to offer anyway. No nightclubs or phone reception but plenty of beers and good vibes ![]()

Ant's Kite Surfaris is a very good option. It's pure kiting nirvana. Eat, sleep a bit, but kite a lot more. And right now winds are starting to come back too after the cyclone. Don't worry you won't get hit by one as the season is just about over for them. Talk to Ant and find out more accurate details.
Oh and it's warm. Water probably 30deg C. And all in Oz. Keep Aussies jobs here I say
Looks fkn cold :-(
'Cause it is!

Yeah if I'm going away over winter I want somewhere baking hot and sunny where i'll come back to work in July sporting a tan.
This year I'm going to Sri Lanka
+1 LHI, no more difficult to get your stuff there than anywhere else. Bit cold but ripper place and tons of non kiting activities. If you look around for packages there is some good all inclusive ones that make it pretty doable.

Where abouts im thinking the same maybe july. I have an old suitcase im sure will fit 3 kites and my board has a bag easy i think :-)
Blowin Bowen nq. Fly into proserpine airport, bus to Bowen stay in a tent or cabin @ Harbor Lights Caravan Park walk across road and kite your ass off. Walk 800m to pubs or restaurants in the main st for food and refreshments ? or use fridge and camp area and cook your own. I can arrange (camping gear hire - basically just a deposit so if its broken i get it replaced). Great bunch of locals there who are generally happy people (provided you are one of us that were taught common sense and manners naturally). Are there better places to kite? At times sure... Cheaper? If you find one let me know, always open to an adventure.
Its easier if you get a few people and hire a car, you can then check out Alva and get around easier. Mouth of the Don is great.
Disclaimer; My parents have owned the Caravan Park for near on 20 years and now manage it again themselves. I go up there just about every year.
If interested let me know ![]()
iv kited in all these places mentioned. ant probably has the best set up. srilanka comes a close second but its bloody crowded with noobs. but to be honest my backyard is 10x better then all those places. everywhere i travel to is a downgrade for me.
Just stay where you are and buy a $500 wetsuit. Life begins at 50 knots
surely you get similar storms to Perth in Vicco?
Plus one for Australian Kite Surfari. They have a budget deal going this year of about $650 for 5 nights (self drive and self cater). You can fly to Cairns, hire a car and drive up yourself. There are cool boxes available to pick up from Kite Rite in Cairns and you can call one of the butchers and have all your meat packaged and frozen before arrival. No need for cutlery or cooking gear as all amenities are available once you get there (gas cooker, oven, smoker and spit roast. Beds, linen, hot showers and toilets). You don't even need to hire a 4WD as they will pick you up from the beach entrance for the last 5 kilometers (tide dependent). If that sounds too hard just get the full package of 7 days / 6 nights for about $2300 and relax. Check out their website www.australiankitesurfari.com.au to get a better idea. The place is awesome.
I've never done Australian kite safari but I have been to Fiji a couple of times. If I lived east coast I would definitely go more.
This winter I'm off to Dirk Hartog Island - Western most tip of WA.
If your seriously after an affordable winter escape you can't go past flying to Cairns hiring a car and driving to Cooktown . Here you have 2 options , Kiting at Walker Bay or Archers Pt . Both offer free camping, or just camp/ rent a unit in Cooktown, guaranteed wind 24/7

Are these winds up and running now? I've got until the end of April off work.

Have a look at Cape Flattery in the Weather section now. It hasn't been below 15knots all morning!
just throwing it out there after seeing the post about cook town. if you chose to do a north qld trip on your own please be croc sensible. you cant just kite anywhere! You don't want to have run in with one of our locals

God damn it Queensland.
God damn it Australia in general. There's a lot here that can kill us in seconds. Crocs are the least of our problems
another vote for Ant, especially the self drive /cater if budget is king.
hope the link works, a few boys recently did the self drive and made a decent vidI can name a place old mate, but I'm afraid if your into cappachinos and going to the movies then your not gonna like it..
You want good wind, cheap and friendly..
Open your eyes and get down to Tassie. I bet though you wouldn't even consider this option because you want to lounge about in your bloody gstring and try to showboat in front of the Sheilas on the beach.
Yeeharr.. Kenny
