Because we have become Suburbanite prisoners, held at ransom to celluloid super heroes on TV screens, washing cars and mowing lawns in a pantomime existence designed and delivered, to suite women's genetic needs to nest and be secure.
This is how I hunt, search and destroy... our genetic code that is at odds with the last few centuries of modern civilisation.
... feeds the worrior gene in us ,,, just like I said! dude!!! ![]()
Yeh that's what prompted my Tim Winton episode (dave you are a crack up!!) and the fact that I'm full of absolute sht!...![]()
Even the off the water part of being social with people that would ordinarily be worlds apart and watching your back on the water.
I have never been involved in a sport that levels ground as much and makes a great sport all the more injoyable.
Beers before , after and during with the crew just looking at the ocean and talking s***.
And listening to it too. Sore stomach from laughing and sharing stories.
The "moment " - that moment of clarity of pure focused thought - when it's on.
Water , movement , use of energy built up , self fulfilment , calming balance found .
Might be the Heinekens though !
.
the connection with nature, flying through the air, the speed of waves, the crew, not being connected to the digital world, the peace, exploring the coast line, pushing limits, but most of all that excitement when you nail something for the first time..
plus, the adrenaline rush when way out your comfort zone and it all just works that day!
yeeeeeeooowww![]()

Being a keen wakeboarder for so long, I agree with the above comment about being able to board free from the smell of fumes. I also like that the fact that you can go solo without the need for a driver and boat. To me the feeling of taking my 11m out in +20kts and flying through the air is just unmatched by anything else I have done. ![]()

Where else can you spend a few hours completely in the "zone" during summer "a place where nothing else matters"!
The individuality and freedom of expression, not being beholden to anybody else's ideas of 'style' or 'legitimacy'.
Even the off the water part of being social with people that would ordinarily be worlds apart and watching your back on the water.
I have never been involved in a sport that levels ground as much and makes a great sport all the more injoyable.
Agree with this. I surfed for years and never got anything much more than a smile & a nod from any other surfers. I copped plenty of shouty angry abuse if I ever happened to accidentally get in someones way though.
Within my first couple of weekends of kiteboarding I knew a dozen kiters by name and was blown away by how more-than-willing experienced kiters were to spend their own time persevering with a newbie like me, particularly in those first couple of sessions when I was lying on my ar$e in a foot of water struggling to relaunch my kite - only to get up and fall over again after 1 or 2 seconds. I was expecting any minute now these guys will tell me to p1ss off go & learn somewhere else.
Since then I've returned the favour to others starting out and made new friends all the way along the journey. Best sport ever.
