I get quite excited when its big..

Probably considered lame by others but I actually start hooting myself when I outrun, or just make a big heavy section.. I just cant help myself Im so excited and pumped up

This double-head or double-mast high wave thing is BS. I'm just over 6' and a sailboard mast is 5m long. Double that and you've got furking big waves.

Anything bigger than me is gunna hurt if I get smashed by it.

At the ocean beaches I ride the waves that are bigger than me tend to stand up then crumble so they're not too hard to deal with.

Some of the gnarlier beach breaks have waves that suck out and go hollow. It's amazing to watch the the lip of the wave pitch over your head, just before it pile drives you to the bottom.

The vast majority of people cannot handle a wave that is more than knee to waist high.

Not a surf kiter, but a surfer, anything over 16 foot face will hurt on a long board on the way out and way back.

All I realise as I get older is a lip pitch, critical bottom hand turn is going to hurt if you get it wrong.

All I can say Surfingboye is glad you survived that one & Gorgo maybe a board is an optional accessory in that size, loose the board and enjoy the big wave body bashing.

Good photo of surfingboye.

I'm trying to decide whether I'd prefer to be hooked into a chicken loop OR paddling towards it on a surfboard.

Double head gets pretty ring puckering.

Anything above double head is pretty terrifying.....

In this situation, ^^^

fly the kite back and head out to sea,

and confront the wave.

It takes courage.

Swoop the kite back over the wave and pullstring yourself thru it.

Keep the pressure on your front hand on the kitebar.

Try to dive as 'deep' as possible under the foam, that's not easy when you are hooked up to a chicken loop.

If you remain back-to-the-wave,

like the kiter shown in the pic,

the kitelines will lose tension when the foamball smashes and tumbles you,

and your kite will fall out of the sky.

lol.

Dude that is the most sense you have ever posted. LOL! Keep the power on in big swells when you stack it throw your kite over the back it won't drop out the sky . It may save your life.

A big wave is any wave that scares you.

Many years ago (when I was diving and not kiting) I took my 'rubber duck' (4 metre inflatable with 30hp motor) out for a spin at 'Blackfellows' surf break, near Elliston during a huge swell.

We headed into one wave, it was like driving up a big hill, seemed to be going up and up for ages on this huge green monster. As we neared the top, the top few metres started to break, we had just enough time to turn the boat around and race back down the face! Exciting stuff but we didn't stick around to try our luck a second time

I don't have any photos and wouldn't be game to try to guess the size, but this was on a day when the BOM were calling a 6 metre swell. Anyone who knows the region will have a good idea of what the break would look like in that sort of sea.

Nah, not really. Not a monster but a well framed pic of the same day.
