I'll Start the thread by saying the launching and landing of kites is where most of the danger seems to lye, also the deathloop.
Performance innovation of the kites seems to have slowed and I've seen a diversity into different riding styles.
Regardless safety should at the forefront of development.
I think that all kites by law internationally should come with a self launch / land system, in the bag with the kite. then we would see kiters using self launch/ land tools on the beach in a everyday fashion.
Like this one pictured, but maybe in polycarbon, light weight, even 2 piece.
I'd love to be riding in 25 knots with 30 of those randomly dug into the beach
That's just the kind of stupid comment that I expected.
The accidents have been happening due to people kiting too close to the foreshore.
Having one of these won't stop people from launching or landing close to the foreshore.
Where the terrain makes it impossible to launch away from the foreshore, this launch/land system won't be able to be used anyways.
- but yes there is definitely a future and safety will no doubt be a massive aspect of it.

It's a nice tool, and if your going out alone in 40-50 knots it's a great innovation.
but your take on it is ridiculous
and generally speaking, it's mostly a waste of time and a nuisance
and while we're at it
in the same way we see marine vehicles modelled on the dermal denticles of sharks
I want to see kites modelled on the feathers of birds

Going out alone in 40 to 50 knots....you go Ruben and show us how its done, Fxrk yaeh Buddy,
My Take on it>>>
Is too save people from a destroying their future / possibly deathly accident.
My Take on it...its not my take mate, read the accident reports and think about it mate, fool
This is the quickest way to slice open your leading edge.
Great when the wind is strong...but soon as it shifts so does the kite and the LE gets dragged across the tip of the screw.
and while we're at it
in the same way we see marine vehicles modelled on the dermal denticles of sharks

With that attitude mate we should've just let nature deplete itself and let dickwads like you design the future, as obviously you seem to know it all.
So your going to de clip from that monstrosity. And clip into your harness @ 30 knots.
You're then going to unwind the monstrosity with one hand while holding a kite.
Then walk it over to your gear so normal people don't have a death stick in there launching and landing zone.
Where can I buy one?

Well at least someone is saying something that makes some kind of sense...hip hip hooray dude.
Just don't place the self launcher too close to an object.
Surely if a new kiter has the want and will to have a crack at the sport they could learn that the self lunch and land tool could help them.
Sandfoot you have taken a liberty to put forward an idea on a forum... sit back and enjoy the ride ! Fot mine i think your theme that it should be " international law " is poppy cock and a fkn joke .
But thats just my take on it ![]()
Its a fkn kite not a A380

Or they could simply ask a local and receive some tips that could well save the kiters life - something a screw in pole won't offer

Sorry its really simple when you use one, you take the dangerous part of self launching out of a kite.
PS I ALMOST NEVER USE ONE AS I've SELF LAUNCHED AROUND 500 TIMES.
I was just trying to help inexperience people and the kitesurfing community in general.

As if you would help em mate, maybe read half of your posts. youre just another "I'm a kiter and better than you on the water type of dude." kitesurfin don't need ya
been kiting in Vic for a few years now, never seen one being used.
if you cannot self launch or self land you probably should not be going out. just sayin'...

Your replacing one dangerous aspect with another.
Assisted launch all the way.
Best not to kite alone anyway.

Internet ≠ real life
Chill out boys!
Everybody can choose the weapon of choice....
I've seen it working fine and if you not plant it in the middle of the beach I'm OK with it.
Probably put something "flouro" onto it so it can be seen.
Personally I don't like it but this is my choice.
International law is plain b........!
Well I hope the wind comes and you guys can concentrate on the better things......
Happy new year!

Once again, if that was the case there would never be a self launch accident, never happens all the time, I know it you know it.
you guys just beg to differ, I don't give a S#$t.
Actually I think the design of the bar and lines/ bridles will keep changing to resole this problem.
An one got something constructive to add...next year cheers boys. lovein it.

Best not to kite alone.......BAHAHAHA, welcome to vicco mate
If that was the case then how does the second kitesurfing person launch to provide the first person to be not alone....an so on..etc. never works mate.
I don't have anything constructive to add but I can see that thing getting ripped out and causing more issues when the winds up if not put all the way in like that image.
I've noticed heaps of WA crew tether launch off their 4x4's and poles. Don't they teach proper self launch and land practices in the West?

I've never done it, but I'm lead to believe they do it in 40 knots

I don't use that tether (i regularly use a much smaller one that goes all the way into the sand) and it's yet to come loose tethering a 12m kite in 20-25knots. I'll take the risk on an uncrowded, wide and flat beach over self launching or landing around cuttlefish, sharp sticks etc.
Once the kite is in position and sitting nicely, it takes all of 6-8 seconds to run up the lines and clip onto the safety before hooking in.
Seems WA is the only place with a pine log fence near most beaches and people screw a cuphook into it...?
