Giraffe Girl, perhaps its worth telling us the challenges you face as a female kiter in Australia? Do people not want to launch and land you? Are they not friendly or helpful towards you on the beach? Do you feel unsafe?
The 3 people i love more than life itself are women and i honestly think being a women in Saudi, India, Africa et al would be terrible with rape, poverty, disease and being treated awfully but clearly i've been blind to the discrimination faced by female kitesurfers in Australia ![]()
Thank you JimJones for speaking up. You're absolutely correct- there are teenagers who are learning to kite, both male and female who browse these forums. I'm sure the staff at seabreeze, and the people who've posted explicit photos wouldn't appreciate their son or daughter being exposed to this on a sports forum. Thanks again for your support.
I'm probably the only 31yo you have come across without facebook, instagram, twitter and tinder but the photo's posted here are VERY tame to the stuff girls are posting up on their OWN accounts. Teenagers and young adults are the worst.

Or better yet.... girls actually doing impressive stuff, because we can- for fun rather than for your visual approval. Why don't we appreciate what girls can do, and encourage them to do more of it, rather than intimidate them with your emphasis on their "sporty physique" rather than technique. Set yourself up to be supportive and approachable, and a REAL LIFE "sexy girl" might want to have a conversation with you. Then you might not need to drool over photographs of them on the internet from your bedroom.
MDSXR6T, My "challenge" is that women playing sport is portrayed as something sexual or for male viewing pleasure by groups such as this. Men play sport all the time, with the focus on their skills and abilities. It's making a mockery of women who want to get out there are enjoy themselves without being ogled.
I agree giraffegirl.Alot of males on this forum should consider looking at women kiters from a different perspective.Such as their passion for the sport ,and their ability. Not just a sexual ogle object. This photo is what giraffegirl is promoting, I think. Great passion for the sport, skill, confidence in her own skin.A female who did the hard yards, paid her dues with huge success following and respect from everyone,in a male dominated sport. Now guys look at this photo from giraffegirl's perspective please.
Hi Giraffegirl
Do you not think it is the responsibility of the athlete to project the image that they feel comfortable with or will forward there career
Some sports like the LGL or Women's Beach Volley Ball have prescribed uniforms that or obviously designed to take full advantage of men's baser instincts. Other like Womens cricket do not
In kiteing people are free to wear what ever they want. Some choose to wear provocative clothing other do not
Gisela Pulido 7 or 8 times world Champ is rarely seen in proactive clothing but this has not stopped her from getting to the top of the kiteing world
Hannah Whitely on the other hand chooses in my opinion to dress more provocatively to forward her career
I really don't think that it is men that are purchasing or forcing women to wear hot pants style wetsuits. It is Females that are purchasing them and driving the market. If they were not selling then they would not be made.
You are really in my opinion coming across as a Misandrist.
Don't call me names you big bully! Here's some light reading for your evening entertainment. You'll discover that if you want to be a paid sportswoman, in most cases your "choice" to go skimpy is often to increase marketability and gain sponsorship rather than actual choice. http://fulltext.ausport.gov.au/fulltext/2000/ascweb/sexploitation.asp

It is you that are calling people names by calling me a Bully. I simply Said you are coming across as a Misandrist
Here is a quote form the second article you recommended I read
I recommend you read it
It is interesting to learn about the variety of complex stereotypes that all people must face at one point in their life. In the situation of female athletes, they are fighting to find a balance between athleticism and femininity while also making money and supporting their sport. The marketing world has offered women the opportunity to pose for magazines and photo shoots in a manner similar to actresses and models which draws attention to the sexuality of the woman rather than focusing on her athletic feats. Some female athletes are proud to have capitalized on this blending of sex and sports and hope that their marketing decisions will promote themselves as well as the sport. Others disagree that selling sex is not the way an athlete should endorse herself. Both sides present a strong case and in the end it comes down to one thing: the individual athlete's decision.

Which way is the safest to place your board whilst on the beach?
wedged in like the one on the right?
OR
flat out like the yellow one on the left?
I think we should dob on these guys..... :)

Perhaps this topic can be construed as sexist, depending on your view. I admit, I do like looking at the female form, and I have been raised to appreciate and admire it. I am not going to apologise for it.
In the words of Ben Harper... "If you don't like my fire, then don't come around, 'cause I'm gonna burn one down....."
Stand up Paddle Boarding just got much more interesting!
While I'm here I should probably contribute,
Pretty cool video series this one: (skip to 13 min mark)

I just don't think that seabreeze should allow it, and that all the 'admiration of the female form' could take place somewhere more appropriate. As always- "Not in my backyard, mate".
What is a more appropriate place to look at pictures of kitesurfing women than on a kitesurfing forum? I can't think a more appropriate place to do so.
Most of the women in these pictures are sponsored riders who choose present themselves in this manner for their own personal gain.
Yes they are hot. But also they are awesome riders.
I say this is political correctness gone mad.... We shouldn't look at kitesurfing pictures on a kitesurfing forum because they have women in them. In a perverse way that is sexist in its self.

The board on the right is definitely a wh&s issue
Thanks VB man :P Unfortunately it's just not the same, as no one wants to see red crotched budgie smuggler man with his schnitzel projecting out. I appreciate your support though, but until you've had the experience of being the only girl on the beach in a male dominated sport, I can imagine it wouldn't seem like a big deal. Or not being able to buy a girls wetsuit with shorts that are longer than hot pants, because they simply don't seem to make them. Yes, this site is male dominated, and yes the sport is male dominated, but should that be the case? I just don't think that seabreeze should allow it, and that all the 'admiration of the female form' could take place somewhere more appropriate. As always- "Not in my backyard, mate".
The hot pants wetsuits only came out 18mths ago (trust me, I noticed)
You can still get a 'normal' ladies' springy or steamer.
This thread has already been done to death in the SUP, windsurfing and surfing threads. YES it is wrong to post naughty pics, I did once in jest and got censored. Oops. BUT appreciating a beautiful girl in a bikini is NOT wrong.
You need to look at half the pics here which are sponsored girls looking all hot cos it helps their career. I mean look back a page at the gal kneeling on the beach with a kite and a white/grey bodysuit thingy and her harness on. All watersports related gear - but she also had a heap of makeup on and you can't tell me she does that when kiting.
So to reassure us you are consistent please tell us you also strenuously oppose:
women kiters in makeup in promo shoots
men with 6-packs in calvin klein etc ads
any ads for cleaning products, groceries, anything child -raising related etc, that make husbands or men look incompetent (albeit in a humorous manner)
any ads at all that include a female presenter (about 90% have an OK looking chick talking, how many have a male telling us what to buy...?)
all mainstream news and weather that is 70% female presented
all school teaching which, whether deliberate or not, is female dominated
any movie that shows a male having his legs or chest waxed and he screams his head off, with the implication that men cannot handle pain - when it is plainly apparent our hairs are more deeply rooted and thus harder to remove.
any occupation that you could aply for, yet i could not get. Hmm - sales, reception, marketing, voices on ads, presenting awards, anything where a female just 'being there' is perceived as 'works' and a 40 y/o male just does not cut it.
maybe even females changing a tyre, or lost, or trying to carry something heavy, in the dark, whatever and guys help them out
Every woman's out there lookin' for a rich man And every man's out there looking for a perfect ten Can't always get what you want sometimes So your better off just takin' what you can
