I've no intention of losing control of it.

I'm curious Slave - do you unhook?

I kite waves.

Why would I want to ride unhooked ?

Why would I sacrifice sheetability when bottom and top turning on a wave face ?

lol.

i'm curious to know if any of you keyboard warriors have kited alongside Slave ??? not advocating the non use of a leash, makes sense to use one, but lots of angst tends to follow Slave and seems unwarranted.....unless someone has personal experience with Slave being unsafe. Other than that Slave makes a call not to use a leash, so what ?? Most blokes with their neurons working at aleast 50% will wear one !!

So Slave do you fix your chicken look to your spreader bar? Per McTool's thread? Or something else to prevent accidental unhooking?

Edit: just saw your post in Terry's thread, so I guess the answer to the above is no.

Yep and I am concerned. He did not use on the fly sheeting back in the day as well. Not sure if he does now. Just had a homemade setup with knots. Slave is special rides waves on a twin tip

Cheers Hilly for the feedback! I work in an industry that daily challenges my worksafe assesments and it does become a habit thats morphs into my personal endeavours..kiting included.
One would hope that those that choose to heighten the risk of a runaway would assess their environs and act accordingly!

Ahhmmmm. You blokes are aware that your safety death leash does have a release on it aren't you?

Kind of undermines the whole death leash loose kite debate really doesn't it?

That release is pretty handy if your downed Kite is about to get cleaned up by a decent set wave.

Flag to one line in that situation. Then reset chicken loop and relaunch on the inside. Safer for other water users rather than a loose kite floating through the line up.

Most blokes come with a short leash, which their wives are currently using

Thanks - I spat a mouthful of coffee all over my keyboard when I read this post... Serious contender for "best one line joke of the year"

On a related note, a while back I gave these as a matching his and hers set of books as a wedding present.

If you are a competent kiter who does not go further offshore than prepared to swim in and kiting in a situation where loss of kite will not cause stress it is fine to kite without a leash. (I.e no-one on the beach dw). I feel scared wearing a leash in heavy waves and choose not to.

Use a leash for self landing , launching etc then just disconnect it from the flag line hook it on to your harness have a sweet session , connect leash back to flag line land kite to easy . Everyone still has a leash and people on the beach are safe from kites .
