On a more serious topic....
How is this an actual thread?
Have we ran out of things to bicker about?

I was just doing some research, and it seems that 100% of nonsmokers die.

Im not a fan of when people fart upwind of me.

Its selfish and there is no direct action revenge that I can do to fight against it.

Im just saying.

That'd be fine, if it wasn't YOUR tax dollars paying for their cancer and emphescema treatments...

Funny thing here, where most of the population seems to smoke, is in the kiters there are only one or two who do. And I wish the dickheads wouldn't stand around my kite while doing it.

Why do it? Cos nicotene is more addictive than heroin.

if you do the maths on this it does not really stack up. In NZ the government basically looks after you until you die after you retire. If you smoke heaps and die early you are actually saving the government and the tax payers money.
It has always been said that the taxes on cigarettes are to help pay for your cancer treatment etc, seems like a much bigger saving in taxpayers money if you die sooner and they do not have to pay for your retirement home etc.

haha so true.

I was thinking maybe there is actually a reason people smoke after a session. Much like how people smoke to heighten the effect of MDMA and other drugs perhaps people smoke after extreme sport to prolong their high from kiting and release more dopemine to their brains? Ever seen a movie where people smoke after sex? That's basically the same thing.

When I first got interested in Kiting and started going down to the beach one thing that amazed me was the amount of cigarette smoking beer drinking fat pricks doing it. My reaction as is usual was 'if they can do it I can do it'. So I must thank all the cigarette smoking beer drinking fat pricks that kite. Ta!

Pardon me? Smoking heightens the effects of MDMA? Not in my experience old son (not unless they are menthols ).

Why do people smoke? It's because they are drug addicts, pure and simple. I was one for 20 years (even had to come in for a smoke every hour I was out on the water). So glad I buried that addiction in a smoke proof coffin.

Nicotine increases the subjective euphoria of many drugs through increasing dopamine tranmission in the reward pathway. Well known examples would be cocaine users often chain smoking when using as it augments and intensifies the high, the same goes for just about any drug that increases dopamine in the reward pathway to an appreciable extent. There's quite a bit of info around the place on it, some studies have been done into it and whether they are 100% legit or not I would say there's a pretty decent consensus from a lot of users that using nicotine (tobacco products) in conjunction with other drugs definitely does something. Everyone is different, perhaps it just doesn't effect you in that way.

Nah man, there's more to it than that.

1. It's a demonstration of man's ability to harness and control fire, something that sets us about from other animals and makes us what we are.

2. It gives the lungs a bit of what they evolved to get on a regular basis - smoke. Before we lived in houses with climate control we did a lot of hanging out around fires. We evolved to get a good dose of smoke on a regular basis, and modern life takes that away from us (although in some cities that could be argued).

3. It looks pretty cool.

I don't care if people smoke, Its not my body it's their body.

What I do care about is the fact that a lot of smokers (not all smokers) don't have the decency to stand down wind of everyone when smoking. Nothing annoys me more then when your packing up your kite or just doing anything in life and a smoker lights up anywhere near you and your air gets polluted by their second hand smoke. Why should I, part of the majority of people who don't smoke, have to suck in a smokers second hand smoke?

Well I dont know anybody (and I was a dance music DJ in London clubs for over a decade, so go figure) who would report that a cigarette made any difference to their high when on either MDMA or Coke.

Just personal experience, not read from a text book.

I was in Indonesia last year watching some locals smoke while kiting. Must take some skill to handle pass and not either drop your smoke, get ash in your eyes or get the smoke wet.

Not saying you're experience is wrong, I'm just saying that I know a lot of people who would argue different. In the end though there's evidence there and lots of people who would agree, so this is really a pointless thing to argue about especially when a lot of drugs are effected almost as much from your own perception of what they do as the chemicals they are made up of. I'm sure you've experienced that.

People know the health risks of smoking and the tax paid on cigarettes offsets increased medical costs.

If you want to smoke, go for it. None of my business. Im not precious about getting a whiff outdoors, there's hardly any legal spots left to smoke.

Just take your butts and dont ash near my kite!

Righteous folks should sets their sights on obesity and junk food. That's arguably doing more harm physically and financially now than smoking...

Some people don't like alcoholics, some people don't like smokers, some people don't like imbecilic car drivers, some people don't like fat people (fat from food, not hormonal problems), some people don't like kiters.

Alcohol kills, smoking kills, car kills, food kills, kite kills and u pay tax for all that.

Like smoking is the worst and only problem it gets solved with YOURS/OURS taxes ....

Deal with it or find another planet.
