Sounds like that could be correct.
prices tend to increase year on year.
Also the AS$ v US$ change, was roughly $1 to $1 but now we only get $0.75 to the US$

I saw that too, huge jump despite being pretty much exactly the same as last years model (not a fan of the new look). I wonder if we will see a similar price surge in other brands when they release their 2016 gear.

Don't get wrapped up in this bullsh.t, as recreational riders we don't warrant it,

we new there were going to be these prices ages ago. its only because of the price of the dollar. pain in the ass really. we are damed if the dollar is high, and we are damed if the dollar is low.

cab prices are also going up 20% I was told but they went up last year 20% and the year before because of our dollar ("apparently") but I reckon that is BS because they cost about the same in UK

but the positive I can see is that second hand ones I own will hold their value.

don't buy new unless you are a bunny and happy to sponsor island boat junkets and marketing salaries

you can still support your local by buying superseded/demo models or someone who bought new but never got into it

Actually, I think we were better off when the dollar was closer to 60c To the US dollar. We exported a lot more and imported less. Now it seems no matter what the dollar does, everything in price is going up to keep the mining industry afloat, even the dare I say it, investment into climate change?

Well it is... ! Going to have to borrow someone else's pump on the beach and then another thread will start about "get your own pump" or something!

I dig the new all black razor and I want it but that really breaks the bank. Also the high prices won't help the resale as its a c kite. Anyone want my 2013 razor complete with no pump for 300$??

The problem is that chinese workers are starting to chase higher pay as well as polluting industries having to cleanup.
There is an across the board 7-20% increase in bicycles prices too.

What did you think would happen if you send all manufacturing over there?

Thought those prices looked steep, had a quick look and found them $500 cheaper for the 2016 airush and fuel, the rrd range has stayed very close to previous years pricing, some great deals on last years stocks, seen some great pricing on naish pivots, $6 to $7000 is beyond most for a new quiver, oh and don't forget that new board

There's no actual need to buy this years new kites. Last years kites on sale are just as good. Second hand kites with low usage are an even better deal.

Last time I bought a new kite was 2012.

Me too. My last new kite was in 2011 and sold it for a song.
But back on topic...
Don't blame the local shops guys. They are forking out more every year in import costs and wholesale costs. Look what happened to Kitepower QLD.
I think there is a niche though for recycled, reconditioned kites and boards. Even kite foils and boards are been made by locals and experimented with, with success stories all the time.
Our local kite shop has recently expanded and it's probably not from kite and board sales alone.

$witchKites' (Is that still a bad word here?) prices haven't changed (other than slightly for the 5m) with the new Element they just released ($755 for a new 9m). I used to only afford buying used kites but have bought a couple of their nitro4 kites and their lightwind helium kite and for the price I'd much rather buy new from them than someones 2-3 year old used kite.

It will have to be something very special for me to part with cash this year. The development does not seam to mirror the price in a lot of cases.

Of course not - same goes for petrol prices.

You'd love this place - mark up is already about 100% over US prices, so when the dollar dropped it became almost 300% on some gear!

Getting a new kite wont make a lick of difference to your riding.

Case in point, go look at you tube videos from 2004.

There still more progressive than the average rider like myself.

Agree and disagree, in general you are right but I bought a couple the naish pivot last year and i started progressing a lot faster than I was on my naish parks. Last year was the first year of this kite so I had no choice...except to wait a full year...and that wasn't an option.

I'd say you were progressing because the design of the pivot was more suited to your style of riding.

Pivot and Parks are totally different kites.

I'll put it this way. I ride Fuels. Been riding them for 3 years. Riden every year from 2008 to 2013 kites. Slight changes over the years, but to say they have improved my riding.- negative.

I guess you were not interested in unhooking freestyle?

Yup, the pivot fits my riding style better but I still couldn't buy a 2nd hand one last year. But I agree that the same kite development year after year will see minor changes so no need to buy a new one every year or three.

The 2016 razor is obviously a lot better than the 2015 model.

Nah, I always prefer buying last years kites when the new kite come in cause really what's the difference? And you get a better price.

Red thumbs because you don't believe me?

By way of example...

Slingshot Angry Swallow

2015 is now discounted from ¥176,000 to ¥157,000.

On the U.S. homepage its $499...!

The exchange is currently ¥125 to the dollar at my thieving bank... so that's $1200 and change for the same board here.

The prices didn't change here even when the U.S. dollar was down to ¥60.
