Great achievement for him - I trust he's receiving solid praise.

I can't help but wonder if you're looking for some acknowledgement and praise too?

As a supporter of his achievement you may have a strong claim to some validation and recognition, but if that's what you're after it will help the young bloke's sanity (and everyone else's) for you to name and take explicit responsibility for your own goals, achievements and needs for acknowledgement, even if they overlap with his.

Youngsters need support, and their supporters deserve credit. Youngsters don't need to be held up in public as trophies in other people's ego games. It can be a fine line for sure, so as blunt as these words are I hope their constructive intent is apparent too.

as much as pgc's endless crappy photos, video edits and plugs annoy the hell out of me, i'm sure it all comes down to just being a dad who is rightly proud of his boy and wants to promote his skills. i think he only wants recognition for james.

he comes across as a bit over zealous at times, but i think you are being a bit harsh there dj...

Cauncy - Judge away if that's your thing, but I went to Taree High School (not exactly posh) and was windsurfing every spare moment on gear I paid for by delivering papers, gardening for neighbours and other odd jobs.

I didn't become interested in language and communication until my 20s. Public libraries are free. Anyone can learn to write well if they'll take the time to read well.

Stamp (and pgc) - yeah, the stoke is obvious and hopefully if I am being too harsh it can be water off the duck's back. If I've hit a nerve then hopefully some reflection will yield better outcomes for everyone in the long run.

Judge away, maybe you need to read your post, sorry I hurt your feelings, didn't have much time for public library, I was too busy working, wish I had a paper round at your spot though, bought windsurfing gear, I'd get enough money for some lollies, carnt see what's wrong with being a proud parent, you got kids yet

For Loftywinds' benefit: when threads reach this level of ad hominem poop-slinging I refrain from further posting because -

a) certain people will dig themselves in deeper without my help (though in this case the temptation to use a Latin term as further provocation proved too great), and

b) I've hijacked the thread somewhat and hanging back for 24 hours would give the original poster time for a considered right-of-reply, on the basis of which I may well shift my perspective.

dj,

I find your writing verbose. ^^^

I prefer a more succinct style, which can be found in plain language.

Just saying ...

Intelligence is the level of understanding one can gain from a particular environment. The best boxers in the world are very intelligent, as are the best physicists. It involves the whole nervous system, not just the brain.

Insight is something that comes from .intelligence and experience. hindsight is easy.

There's no such thing as a stupid question, yet there are stupid answers bred from ego, conjecture, superstition and speculation. People dont learn a lot from success, but lots by failure and not giving up.

Education: gaining intelligence through experience is so low on the average Aussie agenda compared to most parts of the world makes us not the lucky country, but a joke. Taking the piss out of someone who is more intelligent only makes you look like one.

PGC is a good father as he spends time with his tin-lid/s, definitely not just a sperm donor. I dont know if he is too enthusiastic or not as I dont know him. It is a fine line between encourgagement and pressure. If James wants to be a professional kiteboarder, my suggestion would be to show him how to market himself, edit his own clips. pick his favourite photos, be social media savvy, and share his stoke on a great sport.

The "lucky country" is a phrase coined as a derogatory comment against us Australians. It's implying the hard fact that we inherited our fortune and wealth from resources, rather than hard work ethic and invention.

The title of Horne's The Lucky Country comes from the opening words of the book's last chapter:

Australia is a lucky country, run by second-rate people who share its luck.

Wi-fi, solar hot water, black box, ultrasound, spray on skin, HPV vaccination, pacemakers etc.......... We can be the clever country.
BUT.

Australia is a lucky country, run by second-rate people who share its luck. Spot on including greens senators who want to ban pink and blue due to gender stereotyping. Dumb Blonde

Sean (pgc) Carew is a complete and utter frother for sure, and along with brothers Justin and Dave the Merrimbula Classic would be less without them. They are the most helpful guys there, break something, they are on it, need a hand with anything, you've got one. James is a great rider, very talented, and also very friendly just like his Dad and uncles. Proud Dads are allowed here surely?

Frothers for sure. I'm always stoked to see Dads helping out and spending time with their kids. As long as they aren't putting un-needed pressure on them it's all good in my books.

What I will say is if James wants to be a Pro then go for it, however it's a hard slog, especially if you are from Australia. People have lots of ideas about what a pro kiter is, or what they think it is, most of those ideas are pretty far from the reality of it. Kiteboarding is fun, but just make sure you stay in school and have an idea of back-up plans for the future. Kiteboarding most certainly wont be forever and it's highly likely you will never be paid much more than the minimum wage for the time that you do it, but if it's your passion you shouldn't be too worried by that .

Our society is nuts! Why do we feel the need to knock those down that are making a success (or even just an attempt at it) down?

I don't know these fellas from a bar of soap, but hell, you don't win a comp 4 years in a row by merely showing up.

WELL DONE to James, and WELL DONE to pgc, it takes commitment from everyone when you're performing at that level. Being a father, I know that just being together with my boys is all they want. And if they were good at something I would be doing my best to nurture it, until they no longer want to do it.

Well done to James and PGC Crew. Cool to see a dad stoked on his son and being there for him.

If James becomes a PRO Kiteboarder Bloody good on him. I dont know if Olly Bridge would have done as well without his family behind him.

Its Funny I used to skateboard in comps and my Dad used to take pictures of me. He was stoked if I came Last or First as long as I gave it a go.

I think "Haters gotta Hate" thats about it. PGC post as much as you want bring the stoke.

I'm going off to kite. Hope you all do the same and relax.

Jesus Lofty - I like you dude but a quick search would help you out no end.

James Carew is part of the Tribe Crew based in Melbourne.

James I believe is sponsored by RPS the Boardstore in Elwood, North Kites and rides for Smook kite boards. (Sorry Guys if I got that wrong)

James has placed recently in the:

KBV state freestyle titles 1st Juniors
Merimbula Classic 4 times Junior Champion

His dad posts on here quite regularly as PGC

James is a switched on Lad and his dad is very cool as well.
