Konami code kiteing its all left right left right up down up down a b start with you lot
Yas look like your trying to unlock 30 lives on ya woo
Duh, sorry Frothy, but I'm not gonna unhook /do raleys /faceplants /whatever to meet the approval of some twerp who thinks that you must ride a particular type of gear and perform particular manoeuvres in a particular way to be qualified to be a kiter.
I may /may not do some of these things to please MYSELF, and I love to see others doing the same at any level.
Its all about having fun out there!
(Sorry if I misconstrued the meaning of your rant, but it's just way too long for me to be bothered reading all of it.)![]()
And thats the exact bull**** that ruined kiteing
Rather then teaching students how to depower with theyre board and body position fat old kooks made it all about the kite.
Because all they wanted to do was to SELL a kite not actually improve the riders ability
If you all read steves message and actually THINK about it youll see thats the exact hardlined carved into stone bull**** every shop sold.
Thats exactly why you all suck at kiteing and cant unhook.
A unhooked air railey is the OLLIE to skateboarding
The very first move anyone should be inspired to do. Find a gap in the pavement line ya wheels up in it and eat some concrete.
From there you want to try it rolling up a slight incline.
All of you and i mean this with the exception on half a dozen of yas which is just so mind blowingly pathetic cant even do that because you have simply never tried.
Ask yourselves why havent you tried?!?
I got $50 its because you were told not to that the bare basics of kiteing was touted as something that only gymnists in theyre teenage years could do.
If you have even just a bit of wind knowledge you would know that if your matching the kites speed with your board theres little to no resistance infact it can even go slack! Omg not slack!! What heavens would you do then? You know when the kite is DEPOWERED ?!? Rather then learn how to kite you all got sold some bull**** and practice makes permamnent so all you can do is kite on overpoweres kites that pull you left and right and let you do big jumps and you think that that is kiteboarding.
That is not kiteboarding!
Thats useing a piece of gear that you shouldnt be useing but they made it so that "it can depower (a 10sqm kite ALLWAYS has 10sqm of power reguardless of what angle its at) by makeing it fly so inefficiently that its basically stalling"
OR
If you had any knowledge or skill or practiced at all
You could use a kite that is probably 2sqm smaller that doesnt NEED to be depoweres AT ALL because its the correct size kite for that windspeed and if you had some board control then you could actually kite percectly fine.
Bowkites and pulleys and bridals made kiteing APPEAR EASIER it didnt make it RIGHT you all have woeful technique and it shows
Look at all the countrys where kite shops didnt force feed this bull**** down every student and customers throat and then have the audacity to tell the manufacturers we only want big bow kites for our big fat rich clients with lots of money and they want to jump 8 meters high even tho they have no twchnique and think that they are underpowered if they were on an actually apropriate sized kite cause they dont even know that theyre ment to be standing on theyre front foot not digging in theyre backfoot the entire time.
Ever see those kook surfers who are all backfoot heavy and wonder why they cant surf for ****? Thats what you all look like.
An? why arw you all still wearing straps?!? Cause you cant control your over powered kite and it throws you around ?
Boots arent for some sort of PRO LEVEL kiter theyre for people who can CONTROL theyre kite and they dont need DEPOWER to control theyre kite! They just need some lessons.
How do i put this into words you boomers will understand....
You know how houseing is big business over here? But in other countrys its just normal and nothing special everyone seems to only have one and theyre happy?
Well you got sold some bull**** and now your all houseing mad but in other countrys where there hasnt been some sort of GOLD RUSH forced down theyre throats about houseing investments theyre all actually quite peaceful and happy and they dont even think about houseing.
So who do you think HYPED the bow kite market? And spent all theyre time trying to destroy the older equipment?
If you were a small shop that had old stock and you couldnt afford to fill it with bow kites it was a instant fatal blow if all the bigger shops and brands just spread FEAR about c kites and that you were only safe on a bow.
Who would do that? Why?
$$$$$$$$$
You all got scammed and now you all ride completely wrong on oversized kites cause you lack the ability to to actually fly a properly sized kite.
You need to go to a ACTUAL kite spot where people train freestyle to see how kiteboarding is actually ment to be. Your going to need to buy a plane ticket tho cause everyone in australia sucks
Step 1: unhook
Hooked in?? Doesnt count!
30 years is along time!
show us your railey!
Listening to this would make me want to quit kiting..
I was at the Kite Nationals in 2003 on the Gold Coast - they gave the title to one guy who crashed 7 times in a row for the whole final and then right at the end did some sort of handlepass about 4ft off the deck. Meanwhile crew were out boosting 40 ft airs, slaying waves front side and back side with huge reo sprays - super floaty transitions with soft planing landings in the other direction - tricks off of and landing onto the blind rail orientation - the crowd was big and cheering for the massive boosts and rotations.
but they gave the title to the guy wiggling and thrashing and doing a technical trick.
That was the beginning of the end for me.
Having said that - those toenail flat depower kites that came in 2005/6/7 were spongy as hell and just awful - the magic in kiting was in pivotal kites that made all the fun stuff (transitions, kite loops) I even reckon my old 8.5 Free Air in 2 line mode was one of my favourite kites ever. Riding a 16m kite at Gnaraloo on a finned up mutant in 12-14 knots with no one out in April was a massive highlight - Any way - I retired from kiting around 2009 to focus on WIndsurfing. But now it looks like "kiting has been cancelled" (it hasn't been) - just like windsurfing was (it wasn't) how does it feel?

This Kid is the future and he not trying to pretend he's being put around by a quarter million dollar boat
He's flying a kite

I miss kitescoop ![]()
We just need more euro backpakers and More Brazilians !
Otherwise kite will definitely die in Australia !
Multiple summers in a row of terrible wind in Sydney has surely played a huge part in the decline here. Everyone has moved to wings and foils to increase kiteable days... Most days now when I do kite (in the surf) I'm the only kite and theres about a dozen or more wings. Flat water kiting still seems pretty popular though. But I guess in my corner of the world, the wind is more reliable in the flat water spots...
Personally I don't see the fun in wings, and would rather just wait for the windy days to kite and do something else in-between.

It gives me a sense of satisfaction to hear it upset you that much
All the others epileptic spdermonkeys on kitescoop either bought a boat or figured out a cable park is way more consistant
30 years is along time!
Thats about all of your post that makes any sense. Here's the results of comparing the two terms, they are declining about the same amount.

That's nothing to do with actual declines in popularity. Google trends doesn't show absolute search volume, it shows search intensity. Eg, as google user base increases, these search intensities decrease because they are not as relatively popular compared to other searches over time.
In short, if you search for any niche activity it will display this trend as it is relative to other search terms, and wider searches as a sport grows will also cannibalise the results (eg kiting, kiteboarding, wave kiting, freestyle kiting are all independent terms which reduce the search intensity of 'kiting').
For comparison put in 'surfing', 'windsurfing', 'wakeboarding', 'mountain biking' and you'll get an identical declining result over this timeframe.
If you look at interest over time in the sports category over the last 5 year, kiteboarding sits at a fairly consistent level.

Can you do a graph for surfing because the surfing world is convinced it is evem more popular and more crowded then ever before every american who has ever had a microphone infront of them or a camera lens pointed at them has now gone to hawaii and gotten lessons
The jonah hill having a tanty about his surf instructor misses posting his paranoid abusive chats has been pretty eye opening. / funny
Essentially he expressed something along the lines of her getting surfers surf surf all over her surf face or something like that and that she wasnt allowed to surd with anyone else ![]()
![]()
Graph it up
And yeah i kinda get what you mean with the graph like more searchs means everything is watered down so even "water" would display a decline but its certaintly as p?pular as ever

Maybe do a graph for
Unhooked powered steeze
And
Dangly spin to win power to weight ratio kook ****

your crazy rants are my command, here ya go

Innovation in kiting has stalled. Back in the early day, innovation mattered and made people excited. People never shut up about how much better their kites were than mine.
Now innovation has been about lighter materials that costs so much more, but really doesn't help a learner progress much faster. No company risks making a Hell Fish and losing money if they screw up.
Okay so thats VERY interesting because if you follow any surfing commentary stuff youll know that surfing has gotten to a almost unconyrollable state in most the popular spots like malibu etc surf photographers are just shooting chaos for $$$ and they all swear that surfings popularity is higher then ever (in theyre memory) maybe it was bigger when people were actually calling themselves rockers vs surfies or whatever silly mod battle beatnik **** the oldies got upto
Anyways kinda proves that this google search graph **** means complete moot
Ahhh well were going to need to find another way to diamond hand it to the moon

Gotta say I was disappointed with that decision ![]()

Balls and Boonie were breaking new ground in that nationals and it was a very controversial decision for sure. It was a great event, held at Narrowneck right on the beach next to the road with plenty of spectators and Gold Coast sizzle.

Oi cbull do another graph but for the word kiteboarding instead of kitesurfing
I dont have the intelligence to figure out how to make the graph long etc but it seems to be a little different to your kitesurfing graph its more of a steady consistent decline from 2004 onwards
Bit of a pop around 2010 which seems to go with how i remember it all going.
Also thanks to basically everyone else for makeing me irrationally angry enough to write on here again hahahaha that clown who said the way to save the industry is for there to be child care at the beach for kiters kids ![]()

Your kids would fall asleep at your ****ty toyass mowing the lawn left and right and kooky 8m jumps
The death of kiteing happened soon as the shops stopped stocking freestyle kites and told everyone unhooking was dangerous.
You all killed the sport by displaying regularly how boreing and lame rideing hooked in is.
If you cant unhook and crash a bunch of times in a row trying to progress then you have blood on your hands as far as im concerned
Imagine how long skateboarding would of lasted if it was just fat old men who cant ollie
Good riddance to yas
Im in my 40s and broken my back twice and still throwing unhooked loops in cyclonic winds and ill be doing the same well into my 50s
If you think crashing while kiteing is hard on the body try running and bouldering your clearly just soft weak white collar members of the growing investment class in this country go to any developing country with a puff of breeze and youll see people ACTUALLY kiteboarding throwing down and pushing the sport
You were all pandered to and told that its okay that you cant unhook by the kite businesses purely for money when in reality you should of been told your longboarder kooks and that this wave is too peaky for you and to f off back to noosa
Have ya any videos of this unhooking in 45 knots and looping that might get the people going again. Like watching Debbie do Dallas and bringing back hairy armpits on women
Honestly i can never find anyone to film in the cyclonic wind sessions and i tend to broaden my safety margin and only pull the trigger when i have huuge amounts of recovery room tends to only be about half a dozen of us that hit it at 50kn+ and im the only one doing unhooked loops in it.
I dont really feel it would be impressive to watch unless i crashed id say they tend to top out at around 6 to 8 meters which can be achieved in 20 to 30 knots with alot more style and control so its more of just a "Wo! You were unhooling in that we were just trying to survive" of a penis flop then anything else but who knows? The bars pretty low when your the only one playing maybe some of these "sponsored" big air kiters could come and see what happens when they throw a unhooked loop in cyclonic winds hahahaha id be alllllll for watching that ! Half of them cant even do a unhooked loop in 15
A big reason why kiting has declined is because of boomer kooks like me, that has never bought a NEW kite since 2012!
Yet I've had my hands on all the brands and practically all the models, since 2014. All because many wanted to chase the latest and greatest, and I just sitting back like a dumb-turtle, just buy what you suddenly decided back then was "too old". ![]()
My point being, kooks like me never really invested into a local shop (sorry Marvin, sorry Matt and John in StKilda), chasing this fantasy you all think the next kite was king.
I knew back then, as I still know now, all the hype around kite A vs kite B was pure commercial capitalism, and me being a staunch Lefty, decided.... haha... I'll wait and buy them 2nd, 3rd, 4th hand and still get the benefits. And it worked!
Yeah so I don't do unhooked kamikaze 720 degree spins or break any Woo BS elitism heights. Meh.
I just kite and I still enjoy it.
I predict the sport will come back to its roots one day, simply due to cost. #prays

Everytime i organise to go kiteboarding with lofty he just sends me to these gps coordinates and never opens the front door no matter how much i bang and yell on it
And just as a side note to anyone like my friend here that thinks theyre getting away with a steal demoing 4 line kites from shops...
.. theyre begginer kites yo get some skill get some curve get a extra line or 2 6 line Cs are where its at like we give a **** about some 4 liner flat **** demo it all day its like demoing a tractor what ya gonna do plough a field? If you got good kiteing gear the shops dont stock em and they sure as hell dont demo them.

As a sideshow that unhooked railleys have been mentioned . This is Shannon Best at a cable park . Is this the highest railley ever ? Cable or Kiting . Does he hurt his knees on landing ?

Say what you want about kites and boards, but the new bars with the line twist engineered out by some magic really are a game changer, and the Naish Apex pads, although they've been around quite a while, make any board twice as good.

I was there, you were robbed! The judging of that event by judges that were either in the pocket of a brand, or who were clearly biased towards doing wake style was very obvious.
Ozone has just announced to dealers that they are no longer going to produce a freestyle kite, the Amp is dead.
Wakestyle nearly killed this sport.
Kind of hard to believe Shannon best sadly has to buy his own kites now.
Daaaamnnn no more c4/amp
Well i was gonna grab a new (last ever torch) but i decided i should support the brands that still support freestyle kiteing.
Looks like were down to vegas's and air rush razors
Probably a good time for me to go public with my concave 8 line (2 are floating for those that are in the know ) freestyle kite

Everytime i organise to go kiteboarding with lofty he just sends me to these gps coordinates and never opens the front door no matter how much i bang and yell on it

I'll just wait on the sidelines. When it rains, it rains!
^^agree entirely. I reckon 2007/08 SS fuels were the pinnacle of kite design. Simple & grunty. And with a chopped down bar; stable.
They were good in the surf for the same reasons, plus they gave power through the arc on turns . Bow kites pivot fast but don't pull through turns, which is when you need power from the kite in the waves
Dont forget that they actually slack!
Every stunt kite trick essentially starts by slacking the lines
Why wouldnt you also want this rather enourmous component of kite flying ?
The fact that 95% kitesurfers dont even know about slacking and stalling kites for manouvers is pretty concerning you shouldnt have to be a "pro" rider just to be interested in this anyone who is actually INTO kites should be interested in the whole flying of the kite
I used to force a little flying theory into the lessons i found it actually helped my students with realiseing how to keep the kite sit in any position of the wind window i rarely said the word "depower" and said "inefficiently" instead. This allowed them to realise that airspeed is your friend stalls generally are not so you just make the wing fly more efficiently ala bar out to fly bar in to steer
They were as baffled as i was by the end of theyre course why all these "kitesurfers" are just wgite nuckleing it bar all way in on oversized bow kites just going back and fourth sometimes for decades without progressing at all
Practice makes permanent not perfect
I've analysed the decline in kitesurfing graphs and decline in seabreeze use graphs in great detail. My conclusion is the greatest decline of both was when Froth Goth joined.
