I have no idea about blackmail, bullying, smear campaign or rangers being called, as for this backfiring, your missing the point, I'm actually feeling like i'm being bullied for asking for opinions on a public forum.
How sad
Well, if you are the experienced instructor you say you are then looking at the graphs Christian has posted, you shouldn't need to ask anyone for advice. However if that's the case you may want to seek another career... I mean 9 years experience as a kitesurfing instructor and not able to read a wind chart, it sounds like you choose the wrong career. Anyway, better late than never![]()

Don't want to get involved, but Just a heads up for squabbles like this. Years ago in Byron, we had trouble with an individual who was kiting in designated swimming areas and doing lessons out the back of his truck; in inappropriate places and times. He definitely was doing the wrong thing! Some complaints were lodged by kiters, as well as the public. When the council wanted to ban/limit kiting in the area they took out a list of complaints, and they all end up in the one negative basket. The majority, or almost entirety related to one person with mostly fellow kiters reporting (wanting to do the 'right' thing) Just saying to be wary about using councils or forums to lodge grievances. It may backfire! Maybe have a chat and sort it out locally.
It really is plain and simple....
Christian has gone above and beyond what most instructors do by documenting every aspect of his one on one lesson, which really speaks volumes about his professionalism. His approach to safety and teaching students to be a safe kiter is second to none and is apparent through his posts on here, especially in the noob section where it is most warranted....
The op on the other hand has nothing but a second hand hearsay story..
Dude! man up, apologise and move on!
Mate (the walks as you prefer to try and do the anonymous thing), you have a bit of a history of hiding behind the keyboard. Asking for opinion? Lol. Will you perhaps consider speaking up f2f one day?
When I moved to Mullaz a few years ago I gave casual lessons to people, for very little money, as I saw need to bring people up to speed and increase safety on the beach. As clearly a lot of folks had lessons but did not want to spend more money but were unable to kite yet safely. Instead of speaking to me you decided (or AKS at that time) to have the council call me and tell me off.
Now, the point I would like to make is, that Christian, at that time working for AKS at Pinnas, had the balls to speak to me and tell me I can't teach there, only registered schools can. Did I like it? No. Did I stop? Yes. Did I respect him for approaching me as opposed to choosing a sneaky weak ass route via a third party, while using strong language and trying to stirr up things on this forum?
Time to step it up mate, especially if you are running a business!
Hey Peeps,
ive just come back from a week off work to move house and stumble upon this thread. I'd like to make clear a few things:-
Firstly, after having been teaching on Pinnaroo Point exclusively for 12 years we were not happy about Kitebud being given a permit to open his business on the same beach. We purposely reduced numbers of instructors when the beach is busy with local kiters and have done for years.
Secondly, although unhappy about his permit, my advice to staff is to go about our own business and focus on what we do, but continue striving to do it better. I believe this is evident in our beach setup and choice of staff this year. We've always been leaders in quality of lesson and lesson delivery.
Thirdly, "the walks" is a sponsored rider of our shop, but not staff. Tony is a big boy and speaks his own mind. He is definitely no ones puppet. The personality clash between Tony and Christian is well known in the north.
All I ask is that we be left alone to conduct our professional lessons in peace without intimidation or passive aggressive behavior. Weir turn will do the same. I ask that Christian abide by his permit conditions and keep to himself.
Yes, we did call the rangers once on Christian when he setup at our permitted location the very day after we had a meeting with the events coordinator explicitly setting out the permit conditions. This passive aggressive show was not something my 5' nothing petite school manager should have to deal with and I have a shop to run. Christian was moved on by the ranger in accordance with his permit. Aside from this incident, there has been no other clashes to the best of my knowledge.
I made a gentleman's agreement with Christian at the time of his dismissal not to say anything damaging about his time with us and have kept my word.
Can we please just get back to kiting and doing what we do best .... please!
DM
Thanks Christian for the countless contributions on this forum (and I'm sure on the beach as well).
Rest assured we all know what's happening here.

DM,
In your post you just broke your gentleman's agreement by mentioning Christians dismissal, that is a Put down, Disparaging remark, Low blow whatever you want to call it. It wasn't necessary in the context of the thread
The remark was unnecessary and un gentlemanly.
I have also bought equipment from your shop and I will continue to do so but you went too far with that comment.
Hi Jhana,
Sorry you feel that way but that side of it was common knowledge. The agreement was about other stuff which is of no value to the public knowing.
All is is not what it seems, is all I'm saying and I will defend the good name of my business when I feel it is necessary.
Let's all just move on and enjoy the season ahead, eh?
peace out,
DM

The way to create Peace is to apologise to Christian on this public forum for the disparaging put down about his dismissal. The put down is damaging.
You have broken your Gentleman's agreement by using this public forum.
So as a gentleman it is appropriate you create peace instead of the opposite and apologise!
It's just not very Christian like behaviour if you ask me. ![]()
Jesus Mick, at least mention a Netflix series....home and away ..For Christ sake you are showing your age, but yeh it's juicy.
So let me get this right. This Christian dude worked for action sports (AKS for the old timers who remember home and away and kited pinaroo years before anyone even heard of the sport) teaching at pinnas'...then set up his own business after dismissal, at the same location.
Thats wierd...
maybe not...
dont care really,
then again he was teaching at the place Aks has a permit for...
hang on who cares...
and taught someone in offshore winds ....
wait...I don't care, that's right.
And there definitely should be more kiting wihtout bikini tops for sure.
in onshore so we can see dude

DM,
Firstly - just because you have been teaching exclusively for 12 year does not give you any additional rights, the instructor has a permit and as long as he continues to operate within the guidelines I see no issue.
Secondly - if your staff were striving to do what they do best they would not be trying to bring another operators reputation in to disrepute via a public forum.
Thirdly - well this has been put to bed I think, comments from a third party sponsored rider not present on the beach have be proven to be contradictory.
As for asking to be left alone to conduct your lessons - think this one might be the opposite as the other party might want to be left alone to conduct his "Professional" lessons. As mentioned above commenting publicly on something you were not present for reflects badly on the person making the comment and his affiliations i.e. your business. I will not comment on the "Ranger" incident as I was not there, but as you say "All is not what it seems" .......
Lastly I second your "lets just get back to kiting" comment - might want to pass the message to everyone else associated so we can look forward to the season ahead without any more handbags on the beach or in public forums.
Peace and fair winds...........
I've just turned off home and away to follow this
Bad call Cauncy.
So what's happening with Frank and Bobbi these days? The Caravan Park, Pippa?

There doing kite lessons,
You couldn't script it
Hey Peeps
Firstly, after having been teaching on Pinnaroo Point exclusively for 12 years we were not happy about Kitebud being given a permit to open his business on the same beach.
Hey Darren, Christian
please don't take this the wrong way as I mean this with the best intentions, having owned a few small business in the area I feel you are dealing with this all wrong.
Darren You have two permits to operate, one at mullas and one at pinnas. As you said you have had this exclusive monopoly for 12 years. Every other school in the metro area has to share a beach with several other schools. No one else has had the privilege of 2 exclusive beaches just for themselves.
This monopoly was never going to last forever. I feel you should be grateful it is not a cowboy operator that has set up there, because if it was, and they were teaching with bad practices and dangerously, as sure as eggs are eggs your reputation would get tarnished with the same brush. If kitebud becomes a better role model for a school, it will increase your rep too. If you kick him down, your rep will also get dragged down, if you build him up, your standing will be built up. Like it or not because you are now operating together, in the eyes of the general public you will be grouped together as the pinnas kiteschools. It's like when there was a bad accident on the river, who can remember which of the many school there it was.
No one really cares about what happened between you two, but the smartest thing to do would be to move on, water under the bridge and try and work together, building each other up will increase both of your schools.
Darren If I were you I would be more concerned about this. If the walks is not working for you or a member of your staff, he is teaching without a council permit and is not covered by insurance, certainly not by your insurance. So you have one of your sponsored riders doing illegal lessons at a beach you have an exclusive permit to operate from (mullas) and then trying to cause trouble at pinnas.
I hope you two can sort this out soon, cos I just want a nice atmosphere at the beach.

I wanted to leave this alone but please steve, get your facts right before you start giving advice or making personal comments about people you don't know. Darren only had a permit to teach for one year at mullaz, no permit has been applied for this year !!!!!!! By anyone !!!!!!!!
Makes you wonder why they gave Christian a permit to teach at pinna's,
Food for thought !!!!!!!!
Bring on the circus

But Frank wouldn't be doing it safely. He is an outlaw. Perhaps Alf would fix it.
Just wondering where the new school will be situated? As a regular to pinaroo at times it feels a little crowded. Two schools operating there could get messy. Must say happy with the new people running the school at Aks. Much better vibe.
I keep hearing about the old days back in pinaroo. Very social vibe, bbq etc would welcome to see it go back to those days.
I think St Kilda has like 4 schools at the moment, in an area no larger than someone's backyard - I kid you not.

And it is a dog beach, and it has heaps of kids splashing in the water. And the kite community has an extremely friendly vibe. I think this may be called civilised approach. Yes I know, weather is a bit so so, and seabreezes are nothing like WA... You can't have it all but you can always winge ![]()
