Hi Guys & Gals,
I was given a WOO from my boys for my B'Day. They purchased it direct from WOO sport in the states because it wasn't available from the local stores at that time, most kite stores stock them now. Great, sounds like fun i thought!
What's a WOO you might ask? This device is basically a jump sensor you mount on your board. It records your jump height, max airtime, session duration and landing G-force. A great tool for those who want feedback to improve their jump height, but also a good reality check. It certainly brought my mates and I down to earth by showing us how high or low were really jumping :)
Ok, now onto our experience with this device and WOO Sport support.
Not so good! Mine worked for two sessions only before dying and failing to turn on. WOO were quick to offer a replacement but have not made good on this promise, over three months ago now. Apparently they have a back log of new orders to fill before they replace mine. I also convinced three of my mates to by a WOO, you see it's far more fun competing against friends when using this device. Out of this batch of five devices (I loved it so much I bought a second), two devices are stone dead and one is working intermittently. Fortunately my mates unit's and my second WOO were purchased from local kiting stores so hopefully they will replace the faulty unit's.
My advice, buy from a local shop so you get the support you expect for a device of this price. Also, i'd wait a while now until WOO Sport sort out their obvious design issues! So all in all this product has the potential to improve your kiting by providing valuable feedback and be the independent judge and jury, deciding who is the king of the air amongst you and your mates, and the WOO community for that matter.
Anyone else had reliability issues with this product or were we just unlucky?
Yep had the same problem got 4 months out of it. Turned it on one session and the light didn't flash like usual just stayed on and wouldn't record or pick up a Bluetooth signal then died completely. As you said woo were quick to email me the warranty claim form to get a replacement to me asap but have not heard back since filling out the form nearly a month ago.
They told me it was in the mail too but got caught out when I asked them to provide a tracking number and they couldn't seem to find it.
Mine stuffed up a while ago but it must have been before the back log as I got my replacement relatively quickly From them.
I did however try to update what I felt was my biggest jump after the iPhone update. Unfortunately it deleted it of the woo without recording it....
now I have to update on my wife phone as she is not up to date.
Yes same issue here. I only got a couple of sessions before it died. Waiting for a replacement from the shop I purchased it from.

seems in buying a gadget that does nothing except stroke your ego you may have been ripped off
Same here... Mine died after 3 sessions.
My local retailer made all the difference though organising a replacement from its own stock.

What a cynical comment.
I would be asking how these devices determine jump height?
Since short duration GPS fixes are mot much better than +/- 50m I'm guessing it must use some sort of accelorometer. If that is the case then it must be dam good algorithm.
Smells like a gimmick to me.
It's legit. It tells you the all the jumps you do. On my last sesh I only did 1 big boost right at the start and the rest of the time was wake style. So they were all only 1 to 2m high. But the first was 8m by memory. So must work.
Is it still version 1 ?
Or the ones there making now, have they made any changes improvements version 2 ?
Mine was one of the early ones.
Jason from BrisKites has offered to handle the warranty claim for me even though It was purchased elsewhere, how goods that!
mine still going good after an initial replacement,I'm finding it's a good idea to wash in fresh water after use to stop the corrosion happening. New IOS update is out too so ever thing is good again with blue tooth, no need to update with the beta version
I really don't want to know how high I jump, imagine the disappointment and not being able to walk out onto the beach like a boss after my session!
Nah, I think in this case ignorance is bliss.

I'm not sure if that's true. My iPhone is up to date and it deleted the session when I connected it. When I inquired about it o Woo tthey told me this was a side effect of IOS 9. They told me you need to update to the beta version or wait for IOS9.1
From what I've heard it's far from "legit" in calculating exact height of jumps, it's missing key components, hence the reason they are making a 2.0 version.
I heard the Xensr is far superior to Woo and was the original (not sure if true). Does anyone have one of these that they use? I heard it's basically what the Woo 2.0 will be but it's already out (it's the one Jessie Richman promotes). Think Woo just had better marketing.
Anyone can chime in on this???
Hand up.
The main software component missing is you can't sync it with no Internet connection (or do you?).
Ego trip? Well, how many devices are out there measuring you blood pressure and all? This little device tells me how many times I;ve jumped and when. Which means I'll have stats during the season.
And that is better then nothing in my books.
Woo have sent out an email and video to owners explaining the old mount was causing wear on a seam leading to waterproofing / corrosion issues.
They have designed a new mount that they are giving out free to all owners which should resolve the reliability issue.

I heard it's more to do with the software (incorrect readings) and why I've heard Xensr to be more exact. Apparently Xensr also records your movements during tricks and other stuff (G's etc)... I actually know nothing for certain about these things, this is just what I'm hearing along my travels, I don't particularly care about having either.
If Woo was a sponsor of Seabreeze.com then this thread would of already been removed.
Don't be cynical, or surprised if yours and my post go missing.

Hard to verify accuracy. Obviously a gps device would be better but a lot larger as need plenty of battery.
My anecdotal observation of people with woo's is that is at least proportionate. Dude goes big, gets a big number. No tape measure to verify. I thought the feedback from the King of the Air riders was positive but then I don't know them so could just be marketing. The 2 people I know who have them get buzzed and motivated to go high! Can't see what's wrong with that!!

Nothing wrong with it, just not overly accurate I'm hearing. I know at least one person in King of the air who wouldn't use anything but their personal Woo because they said it was reading higher than they actually were... lol.
I got one for my b-day but still haven't had the chance to try it.
This review indicates that its unreliable until you run the software update.

I think it seems like a fun gadget and at least it makes it easy to give a b-day gift to any kiter :)
