can you make any recommendations of cheapish fish style boards please?

The surfboard warehouse has an epoxy board called an RPM it's really basic, really light, strong (no sign of damage after 6months) and cheap $400. Bought The 5'8" rpm + 5m extensions with a 9m AR wave, gets me out white caps. I'm 70kgs.
If I had the bucks I'd be getting a zephyr.

Could not imagine trying to throw around anything bigger than a 12m. Just not quick enough.

... in my opinion coming from a wopper sized dude,,, get a bigger kite,,,, that way you get the power you want and use your same board your familiar with then get a bigger TT or Surfboard to switch things up later on! Not the cheapest way around it but you'll be grateful you did.

Kites like the Core XR3/4, Zephyr, Epic Infinity/Blade Fatlady or similar have amazing wind range, good in waves, quick light enough turning and of course, good power in the light stuff. Line extensions can help somewhat but not like a 17m can.

It's been ages since I tried a BWS but my memory tells me that it has similar bar pressure to the Zephyr or 17m Core so the worry of having a big slow cumbersome kite circa yesteryears kites is not valid. They turn great nowadays. You'll get the power you want for the less than stellar conditions and then you can progress to other more dedicated boards taking your new favourite kite with you.

Cheers,

Robbie :)

As you saw Robbie, in fickle Bali winds, me at 85kg, the 11 edge with a 145x47 was out in same wind as 17 & 19's with nuggets, Ive mucked around for last 6 Bali trips trying to master light wind combos including the zephyr but I I think it comes down to an efficient kite not necessarily the biggest.

Couldn't imagine getting off the water with a 12 in marginal winds, just not enough lift

Thanks for the advise Dowls. I went ahead and ended up buying the Cheap Thrills Fish from surfboard warehouse. It should arrive tomorrow.
It's got lots of volume (40L) so I'm hoping it will become my LW weapon of choice!
This is it: 5'10, 22" wide
