Yeh he has a small ozone trainer foil. Noticed the ones they had in Sanur has short lines so I might set it up with shorter lines. He can loop the kite and all that but loses his head now and then and drops it. When he can keep it in the air for a period of time I will be getting him a small REO or something like that. He only 5 so I reckon by 7 I'd like to see him out and about.
Thing is by 9 he will be cranking into the unhooked stuff and dad will no longer be cool with his gay hooked in freeride lame crap!
Where the apprentice becomes the master.![]()
We had some great runs actually, was put for a good 25 minutes one time. Took the girl out once in exmouth but she just screamed all the way out and all the way back so doesn't look good for her at the moment.
... hey Eppo, had a cracker yesterday, finally had to pull the depower (only a little bit, didn't wanna look like a total pussy) and hang on for grim death. Tone and I at Oka Point with a few of the waves well overhead that made me pucker up a few times
,,,, and wind was more east so hitting the waves on the run back out to channel were head on straight so made for some specky jumps indeed.
woohoo good times!!!
cheers,
Robbie ![]()
Bla bla bla I hear nothing, what you say me englush no good....bla bla bla...not listening.....
Yeh had that greater easterly direction first couple of days, better for my fav freeride boosting, had too much south in it last few days for that sort of shannanigans.
Occa point would have been interesting with that much east...lol. Nothing like trying to drift a large kite down the line, when down the line is straight down the face of a o/head wave..lol.
Keep crankin on big guy!
Has anyone here kited the Gili islands? I'm going to Bali for a wedding in September. Bucks party will be on gili trawangan, and post wedding it's looking like we're going back there.
Found a thread on here from 2004 with poor reports and another from 2008 that said 20 - 25 knots everyday! Damn I dont know what to take.
No but a couple a fine looking lasses went out there and said little area for launch lots of people on the beach. Also you can't mess up there or it is straight into the Lombok straight for you. There is a kite school out there I think I heard. Do a google search.
... sit rep,,,,,, more blah blah eppo, cranking again yesterday, only this time it was really E to NE so straight down the beach at launch spot which means one tack to left of the tower or almost just right of the ship if you pinch hard to windward. Out the back the wind was 90 degrees to waves with a few of them feeling like a house falling on ya head. F'ing awsome indeed. Oh, that was yesterday, today was typical east to SE wind and cranking again, hit water at 8 and tide was high so swell was making its way all the to the beach. Had a 4 foot wave breaking only 400m in front of the kite school, was really freaky.
Oh, and by the way, missus had another run on the Zepher, and she loooooooves it!!!!! Another mate from Darwin arrived today, after his 30min session on it, he said, "I liked it alot more than I wanted too".
Good times,
Robbie ![]()
Bla bla bla I hear nothing....
Nah all good awesome robbie. Got out yesterday, boots, gloves, head cover, wetty and still cold! Lol! Tell ya though was only 17 odd knots but after the tropics felt like 22!! Lol
Was that the dude who sailed across? If so glad he made it safe and sound.
Every time I go to bali there is nothing over 8 knots...last month. I went between June 20 and 25 th and the wind was **** every day..unlucky I guess...1 st week of August is good I hear?

... nah our yacht mate is still on his way, it was another one of our crew! The yachtie mate is a Vegas kiteloop kinda guy so might take a bit more convinsing to try the Zepher,,,,, but,,,,, if he likes it then that will be a big tick for the Zepher!!! ![]()

.... damn dude, that is bad luck!!! We've been lucky 3 years in a row, so far 9 out of 10 days and counting!!!! I think having appropriate equipment helps btw!! ![]()
Does ya mate unhook? That would be interesting. Mike said the aspect in the kite took the slack up too fast for him. Doable but you had to be on ya game.
I rode so many hours in the last three days...I actually made myself sick hey, had a massive flu and throat infection.
Would have been worse if I had done that thursday night arak get together! Only just recovering today! Bloody drove my immune system to dust! I've done 17 days in a row before, but not as much water time consecutively as I did in Bali.
The bintangs between sessions didn't bloody help, damn crazy darwinians!

Half your luck! I went to scarbs at 4.30 yesterday and the wind had dropped to bugger all. Have owned my Zephyr for 2 weeks now, 3 attempts to launch it and non-succesful! At least I have learnt how much wind it takes to get it in the air. Sub 10 knots doesnt work when self launching, it just sort of flops over.
Today is looking good, but more like 7 than 17 weather. Fingers crossed.
Ah I've launched it in sub 10 but that is via tethering.
Hope you are out now Dave there is an almighty peak coming soon.
Hey Jankie how goes mate,
How is the new spot in Bali going over near Java, have you had good winds, was looking at coming over in August, do you have a wind report for the spot.
Cheers and thanks,
All is good thanks, last week North-West Bali was 25 knots every day! But is been extremely windy also in the south.
They are installing a weather station but they are encountering some problems. In our Facebook Group there are couple of guys that post report of that area as they work up there.
Me not really interested as only flat water.
Bye Jankie
... sit rep ... 12 out of 13 days and counting,,, last few days have been all day'ers again, high tide in mornings so means no problems with surfboards and fins hitting outer reef, some lovely head high waves too, by arvo though, not much water but puddles and suuuuper flat water so all the crazies out jumping, nice to get out on smaller kites and 20 knots though. Oh and Bintang has been dinging and flowing freely! ![]()

Steamer, hoodie, booties and gloves...Im getting soft!
Steamer, hoodie, booties and gloves...
funny, I always imagined you riding with all that stuff.. just add the bucket hat
Did you now!
Only a recent thing, like this year...only in winter. Feeling it this year, not sure why. Seems bloody colder this year for some reason.
Last kite today in Sanur.![]()
Zephyr and nugget in 12-15 kts. Cruising and waves.
Big swells coming through the channel, occasionally breaking in the middle. Current everywhere due tHe water pushing through.
New fishing boat parked itself on baby reef today. Right on the edge of the lineup. Hope they can move it otherwise will have to broken up like the other one. Smaller job through although still a good size.
Had a great couple of weeks. Kites used most 14m and zephyr. Board - half nugget and 5'8 sb. Kited roughly 13 of 16 days. About 3 of the those being on the edge of not worth it. Am used to tropical wind , so if you are thinking about Bali for kiting bear this mind.
Used the rip curl launch spot and then moved to Putu and Ketut's warung. Not as safe spot to launch , less facilitys but really nice people , food and cold beer.
Had a great time this year and will be back. Apart from most of us having belly issues.
Kite , rest, beer , food, sleep . Other half , non kiter also happy. Lots of other stuff to do.
Hi all,
I am going to Bali soon and trying to decide if i should take my kit or not? If i can get out for a day then it will be worth it. I will be staying at "Tanjung Benoa 80363 Nusa Dua - Bali" (if i copied the address right). Any good here? I know we are staying in a resort but will i be able to kite here???
Thanks in advance all..![]()

Yep. It's the go.
Hello Jim,
bring your bigger kite, you can kite at Benoa but no rental or schools there.
Pretty much the same wind as Sanur.
Bye Jankie
Damn right where you ride it in to! Doh! Here's to another 5 years for them to sloooooowllly dismantle it.
