Next issue in Freedom Kitesurfing Magazine we discuss being "ADDICTED TO KITING". We want to hear from you! Just how far have you gone? A sicky from work? Lied to your Mum? Claimed a sick or dead relative? Split up with the missus?!
Post your twisted tales here and we will print some.... ;)

Haven't lied to my mum.
Love your mag. But if you're going to start sourcing your material from this forum ( two topics in a week or so) you're making it real hard for me to support you.

thanks.... actually... i wrote this article about 5 years ago and revised it, asked some pros some funny and some serious questions, bashed myself and my failed marriage etc... ... just want you to know that i did not take anything from the forum... this is maybe like my second time on here... whats the other topic we took content from fine sir? thanks for your support ! i will have a look around and see whats going around here... I have a two year old, and its kite season here in Indo so i dont have much time to look at forums, and we are making a new mag which takes way more time then i would have ever thought possible! thanks for your support! hope you like the mag!
Made a FB group with a mate, so that we had more people to use as excuses as to why we were kiting AGAIN!Joel and Nathan (MKH)
I resent the use of 'addicted'. Kiting is amongst the very healthiest of things I do and I will not attend KDC (Kiters Detox Clinic)
I got an invite to my girlfriends uncles 70th birthday party and the girlfriend said it was something I had to go to.... Woke up on the day saw it was blowing a steady 25 knots, instantly though there's no chance I'm going to the 70th, chucked my gear in the car and didn't look back - spent the whole day at the beach. Girlfriend and her Dad just said they were very disappointed with me and expected better. But oh well scored a mad session. So it was kind of a win win for me.
in the off season i my body started to get withdrawals because of the lack of salt water that was going up my nose so i started injecting salt water into my veins, it felt stupid sitting at home injecting salt water so then i just went for a surf. im pretty into surfing, when the windy season starts again ill prolly have to inject some wax into my veins to get my surfing fix.

So take your family for granted much???
Grow up sunshine.
There are very few things on this planet more important than family.

The problem is he's prioritised his hobby over his family. Unless he miraculously changes his priorities after an evening out I'm not sure why you would think it solves anything.
And just because you (and others) have does this, it doesn't make it right.

Settle down mate, I understand it's not right - sometimes you just need to kite.

Bloody he'll. How rude organizing a 70th party during the day on a 25 knot day.....
Was a day late for our family holiday as I hadn't been kiting for a month and it was blowing 20-25 today. They drove to the destination yesterday I came up today. It was well worth it and I think I'm a better father after a kite. It was a little awkward when the 3 year old asked why I wasn't driving up with them (the wife took great pleasure in that question).....I was trying to come up with an excuse but I just had to be honest and tell them I needed a kite.
Canceled customers (using a variety of excuses) so I could kite in the arvo.......and people wonder why tradies don't show up.
I'm a tradie and I'll work through lunch to get on the water earlier if it's windy .
And I learnt to take my gear to work with me ! The misses would try to make me stay home if I went home to grab my gear .
The comments back in 2004 are classic thanks lotsofwind www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Kitesurfing/General/You-know-you-are-addicted-when/
If you weren't addicted to kiting then you wouldn't be on this forum in the middle of winter checking it out.
Told work that I had a doctors appointment an hour after start time. (doctors very busy, only time available) :) Sold the idea that It would make sense to come to work after the doctors appointment. Got up at 4 o'clock and drove to beach. Set up in the dark and cold. Got a few hours kiting a strong morning easterly. Put the uniform on and rolled on into work with a big salty grin. Worked a few times :)
Driving along the coast you see something out of the corner of your eye in the distance like a sea gull, lamp post or even a smudge on the windscreen and even in unkitable conditions you get a little jolt of adrenaline thinking that its a kite and it might be ON
I'm a Brazilian surfer living in Hawaii, at least I was...until +-1 year ago when I went on a surf trip to Bali, Indonesia, and met the woman of my life. She introduced me to kiting and thought me how to kite. I quit my job and started traveling the world following the wind with her. We are now married and happy with this lifestyle. She's a kite instructor and I'm a kite photographer. This season we are in Sri Lanka and I must say that Sri Lanka is a TOP kitesurf / kiteboard destination, no joke! It's really amazing. The wind has been blowing 24hrs 7 days/week for the last month and it won't stop for the next few months. I'm talking about steady strong winds. It's a perfect place if you're looking for your next kite trip destination. I'm staying at a kitecamp called Kitekuda. Good rates and the best food I've had in this country so far, and I've traveled a lot here already. They have a very nice flat water lagoon right next to the ocean. So you can kiteboard and Kitesurf as you please. It isn't crowded at all, I kite on the ocean ALONE all the time. That's why I'm writing here, so more kiters can come enjoy this place. Sri Lanka is a cheap country with friendly people and good food. The weather is very warm, so forget your wetsuit and make sure you bring sunscreen. Believe me, you won't regret it!

Two jobs and several years ago...
Start of summer; hot hot sun, monsoon season brings the good stuff. Wind was cranking hard as a typhoon went past the coast.
Got to work to discover classes had been canceled from about 10 onwards. I sat around for a while then thought the hell with it, and slipped out.
Hit the lake for a ripping 30-knot session for a couple of hours, then drove back to work for the last hour before clock-off at 4pm.
Nobody noticed that I'd been gone.
That didn't amaze me so much as nobody noticing that during my afternoon "in the staff room", my complexion went from pasty winter white to traffic-stopping day-glo red... I forgot the sunblock.
