Currently doing Marine Science, almost finished. If you are looking at doing it to get a secure career, forget it. It's one of the most interesting degrees you can do, and if you are even half motivated, you will excel.. it's not hard stuff to learn. Do it for a degree if you wish, but don't expect to get well paying career out of it (unless you get lucky!!)
Cheers
I don't know what sort of money a Marine scientist gets, but I guess it will be a bit down the list as opposed to engineering or chemistry.
I personally had went through the same consideration regarding doing the degree I enjoy, and picking the ones which gave me a better financial returns. I chose the later, engineering, then computer programming. I believe Marine science definitely gives you a very fulfilling lifestyle. That satisfies your heart. Unfortunately, one needs to take care of the hip-pocket too.
