Toads have been quiet since I found the first two. I have locked the dogs on the deck at night for the time being.

I'll toad proof part of the yard next weekend.

Are you sure that the toads will be a problem for the pooches?

I have a dog (Labrador) here in Townsville and she doesn't pay any attention to the toads. Friends/family seem the same with their dogs...

Good luck with whatevet you end up doing

Hi Skin, mate, I hope you are correct and the dogs are just not interested.

But I choose not to take the risk as I have a terrier who loves to chew/play with everything. The toxins can stop a dogs heart in 15min.

If its costs me a little time and money to put up a defence, well, I consider it a good compromise.

you should try the CORDON ( i think thats how its spelt) the anti pest barrier they put around the edge of concrete slabs in new houses. The **** burns the if u rub your eyes or your old fella after touching it !! should burn the toads away too if they don't jump over it?...

I've seen bird wire and shade cloth work on yards.
toads don't bother climbing like frogs.
don't forget doing any gaps on the gate,,and forget the shade cloth if your dogs a chewer.

+1 detol….. works a treat won't stop the invasion.

He is waving it. Poor old bugger is getting old. I have him here in Fiji and need to find him a girlfriend so i can get a pup out of him Before he carks it.

Some clown imported toads here as well. They get bloody huge compared to the ones I was used to seeing in Queensland. I think it may have something to do with the humidity. I watched a doco on drugs on the ABC years ago and there was this utter down and outer who was extracting the venom by boiling the skin and drinking it. Did a search on it the other day on Erowid. Someone has posted about how he milks his pet buffo, dries the venom and smokes it.

Apparently it gives an astonishing psychadelic high but stinks to high heaven!

I reckon that they will clamber over guarding but it should help. What if you put some short lengths of gutter pipe around the place in the shade as well. You should be able to trap a few like that. And if you put a light in the garden at night they will be drawn to the insects and make them easy to catch If there are any around. Also if you plant heaps of marigolds and lemon grass it keeps insects away depriving them of tucker.

dogs get into mouthing them and getting high as well. just get some toads in your yard and smack them on the nose. you will never ever stop them.
