My iPhone consistently gets messages from the app to please ensure my Bluetooth is on to work .... but it is on.
If you read the instruction, it would tell you that it would be sending regular notifications. Oh s#it that's right, your a man and men never read the instructions.
I read somewhere that Apple and Google cooperated on a protocol for these type of apps. They also refused to allow all the data to be stored centrally - so its on your phone, it gets deleted after 21 days etc, and it has a button to 'upload information' if requested.
Despite my disgust at the offshoring of the server with Amazon (or whoever it was), I have relented and downloaded the app. As noted above, the 'commercial surveillance' society we live in means 'they' already know everything about us anyway.
So I've read that it's useless on the iPhone because apple stop apps from using Bluetooth while running in the background. This means it only works when you've got it open looking at it!
Considering probably half the population have iPhones, it's a pretty major problem.
Is this another case of Dumb F#$kery being spread on social media. I looked on the Gov web site dated 1st May and it say the App runs in the background.
www.health.gov.au/resources/apps-and-tools/covidsafe-app/covidsafe-help
No, it was hiding in plain site on the ABC news app.
Its easy to miss stuff at the moment with amount of stories they're throwing up each day
And before you start jumping up and down accusing others of "dumb****ery" (including starting another thread to rant!) why don't you do a simple google search like everyone else does to check information?
Here I'll help you, type these words in s l o w l y "iPhone Covid app issues"

Maybe if the government promised (![]()

) to call a double disillusion if 40% of the people downloaded the app... They would get a fair idea why only 16% have??? I haven't downloaded just to protest against being threatened with my freedom.
PS I couldn't give as rats arse about the privacy aspect of the app, but do wonder what will happen when your light comes on as a suspected carrier? Will they just come arrest you or give you advance warning?
Think about what they have done to other suspected carriers, like Australian citizens that have been on cruises.

Well, if they find you are a suspected carrier, they will come at midnight, kill you, and then kill all your family to make sure no one misses you. Then they will kill all your extended family, all your workmates, and everyone that has known you, just to make sure.
Or they could just make sure you go into isolation so that no one else catches it, tracks other people that might have caught it from you, and then release you into the public again once you are no longer contagious. Possibly meaning that we can all get back to a regular society quickly. It may also mean that cases that do pop up, for whatever reason will be found much quicker and if found quickly enough will prevent us going into lockdown again because they can find almost everyone that might have caught it.
One of those two, for sure!
FFS I am surprised at how many people think that the government give a crap about your personal data. I just signed into a playstation game that gave away more personal data than that.
I'm not sure what else could be done with idiots who went on cruises sometime in March when clearly this virus was a serious issue.
Who cares that they were locked up for two weeks to save us from them.
We paid for it either way.
I love how they complained about the standard of the FREE food and FREE lodgings.
Just the attitude I would expect from knob heads who left the country in the middle of a pandemc.
I'm guessing their first stop after being let out of their 5 star digs was the nearest supermarket to stock up on toilet paper.
This app may or may not work but the privacy issue is a non issue.
I dislike Govco as much as the next Australian but have installed it as this virus is ruining people lives and needs to be sorted any way possible.

Well, if it doesn't work, then you have absolutely no excuse for not downloading it. The government won't get any information on you or you contacts, but will get the 40% of the population downloads it's requested. Then we get our freedom back. People get their jobs back, the economy starts to recover, anxiety levels and mental health issues drop, domestic violence and child abuse returns to pre-Covid19 levels.
Or is there another reason for holding out so things stay the way they are.
Any chance that you have a couple of people over, the app detects that there are people at your house that aren't normally there, and next thing you know, Mr Plod is knocking on your door?
The police dont have access to the data, just the state health dept. Legislated. Paranoia is the only reason to not install.

It depends. Do you believe that it works the way that the government says it does?
If no, then you can stop there and hide under the bed.
If yes, then they don't even have the data until you send it to them, and even then it has no GPS information, only bluetooth information of the other contacts that came close enough to you for more than 15 minutes.
If no, then you should be doubly worried. The technology is certainly there to tell if someone's phone is close to another person's phone and if you have no belief in the government, then you may as well assume the worst.
The good news is that you can form a commune in the outback. Perhaps it can be on 60 minutes in a few years?
P.S. when do you ever think the police will arrive on demand in 10 minutes?
The police dont have access to the data, just the state health dept. Legislated. Paranoia is the only reason to not install.
A friend recently told me, 'there is no need as there are no cases in Qld, and its very unlikely that there will be any cases around here...' which tells me that they don't really understand or accept the way it is meant to be used.
The police dont have access to the data, just the state health dept. Legislated. Paranoia is the only reason to not install.
What is legislated?
Sorry, not legislated yet, but being talked about. Legistation to only give access to health authorities.

Well, as long as it's being "talked about", all okay. ![]()
Not downloading the app must come from a sense of unjustified importance and arrogance. In that you must consider yourself to be so important that your data could be used for something so sinister that it could actually affect you and other people's lives.
or .. you are up to something dodgy that only benefits yourself anyway.
Privacy ... the horse has bolted on that one I'm afraid. Unless you only use cash, only earn cash income and have no mobile data nor have any online presence. In that you don't use a computer at all.
also no mortgage/debt and you wear a different full body disguise if you go out, generally with an added Tin foil hat to deflect the mind reading rays from the thousands of invisible drones above your head.
you cannot live in a society / community with all the associated benefits (there is a reason we live longer now) and not expect control and oversight from controlling bodies.
Or run back to the bush and wait for a small tooth decay or any small cut to get infected then die you stupid paranoid hippies. Natural selection at work.
as far as the Giligan island ship voyage morons... let nature do its work there as there must be some seriously defected genomes to consider that a probable course of action . Not once ounce of sympathy from me, if anything disdain and "serve yourself right". How dare they complain about anything at all.

So basically anyone who doesn't download the app is now a selfish conspiracy theorist moron, and a danger to society.
got it.

I agree with you about the people that are worried about downloading the app. Its going to be another one of those things where other people are making the effort and the rest of the population are getting the benefit. Similar to herd immunity, those people that see the benefit for ourselves and others will make the choice, and those that are lazy and think its not going to matter for them are going to claim 'privacy' is the reason that they are lazy.
As for the people that went on cruises. I think those people really didn't appreciate the risk they were taking and had the same 'it won't happen to me' belief. Lots of people use the same logic. Similarly, some people were taking trips to Bali as this thing unfolded because 'it was cheap'.
I wonder how people's attitudes would change if this virus was even more deadly and they were at risk rather than what they think of as the elderly and sick?
got it.
Better than being a denier
Never said I haven't downloaded it, although it probably wouldn't make much difference anyway. I started near total isolation 2 weeks before we were asked to, shopping late at night when there's about 5 other people in the store and use the self-check out. I haven't been within 3 meters of anyone but direct family since this started.
But you'll have trouble convincing me it would be the first time data has been misused or hacked. People are getting fines because they have posted photos on Facebook from holidays they took 2 years ago, so the police are obviously willing to be a little creative in their attempts to nab people. I simply asked the question, being curious what other people thought.

It works off bluetooth - aka proximity. It has no geographic location data at all, so they have no idea where you are at any time. You might have been at the shops or sitting in a doctors office, or at the park/beach for all theapp tells you.

Its good that you know that you are unlikely to be in contact with someone that has Covid19, but what if you are?
What if your kids or wife come across it in the ordinary function of their jobs, and then expose you to it? To stick with the current way of tracking people manually means that we will be locked down in the future, just as we have been. Who wants that?
I want to be able to go out and eat and socialise, and the only way I think that can happen until there's a vaccine or some other way to treat virus patients, is to be able to track people quickly. The only way that can happen is if most people get onboard with some sort of tracking, and for every one person that says it won't be them that has it, there will be another person saying the same thing that will get it. The whole point is that we have no way of knowing the status of those we come into contact with.
Maybe the other non-obvious way the government should have gone about it, would have been to show users of the app exactly what data it has collected, allowing people to see that it has little value to anything else?
no app =
no super market ,
no school
no doctors
no medical treatment ,
no socialising in public areas ...
a few shouldn't stuff it for everyone .
I expected that there would be privacy concerns (you should question it), and even that there would be trolls spreading FUD about how it will steal your soul and empty your bank account etc.
I didn't expect that people wouldn't download it because they are "sticking it to scomo" and "because I don't like this government". It's a strange attitude I suppose I'll never understand, no wonder they are only looking for 40%.
Never said I wouldn't use it, just asked a simple question.
Anyway, we probably all need to catch it sooner or later, and since you're better off if you are young, it might as well be sooner. Seems ventilators are just for show, don't make a lot of difference. It's on the loose, and unless we are aiming for eradication (obviously not with the return to school policies and relaxation of social distancing), we might as well all return to our daily lives and each decide to wear a mask and sanitise our hands as often as we see fit. The faster we reach herd immunity, the sooner those at risk will be safe to leave their homes.

All that says is you cannot be forced to download the App (which you aren't) or be refused anything because you haven't downloaded the App.... This specific part of the legislation SHOULD prove even more that the app is not some mind control/privacy theft conspiracy.
What it doesn't say is that it is illegal for everyone to consider you a peanut if you think this app is somehow going to infringe on your privacy rights.....
