I think its funny people complaining about Coles/Woolies stopping single use bags, which they only did cause the customers complained about them,
and then complain about the other things they sell wrapped in plastic,,,but they still buy them
,,,, then brag about saving 35cents on freezer bags by stealing fruit and veg bags when they could be using reusable containers instead to freeze things in????
A lot of hypocrites on here expecting others to fix things that they are too cheap to do their bit to help.![]()

You can see the people who do care, they put all their fruit/veg into a reusable bag and not use the plastic bags at all, let a lone steal them.
For most it comes down to $$$$$$$.
If it comes in safe packaging, but cost 10cents more, most will go for the plastic to save......and still steal "free" freezer bags and complain about Coles/Woolies packaging lol.
We can all make a difference, stop expecting others to do it for you.
I say, Good On the supermarkets for trying to make a difference.![]()
But its not just up to them, but more up to us, the consumer that can make the difference.
Instead of picking up your dog poo and putting it in plastic bags??, why not add it to your compost heap with your veggie waste and grass clippings???
Surely in this day and age most compost ??
You will find you hardly ever have to put your green bin out if you do. I haven't used my green bin for 6 months now,,,,if a simpleton like me can do it
, surely you wise forum sebreezefacebookers social media junkies should have no problem![]()

I am a cynic when it comes to this. I don't know if the majority of the public really complained about this, or maybe it was just a vocal minority?
I would prefer to buy a biodegradable bag, as I use them for garbage bags, and when it comes to taking plastic bags to the supermarket, I am lazy.
What has happened instead is that most supermarkets only give you the option of buying heavy duty bags, so I pay the 15c, and use them in the same way, as heavy duty garbage bags. From what I see, there are a lot of people buying these plastic bags, so I am not the only one. At 15c each, I expect that the supermarkets are getting ahead of the cost.
For 15c I would prefer the bio ones, and then everyone can look at each other with self-satisfied glee.
I wonder how long now, maybe another 5 years, before we see lots of complaints about the heavy duty branded supermarket bags that find their way into waterways. It will be the same lazy people throwing them out, its just now that they are heavier duty and will last even longer in the environment.
i think this whole issue blew up from some people thinking that it was a tragedy and that changing the bags would solve the issue. There are always going to be people like me that don't bring the reusable bags back, and use them for something else.
There are always going to be even lazier people that just throw rubbish out wherever they are.
I say again FN, they need to raise the price of the re-usable bags. At what price would you place enough "value" on the bag to want to re-use it ............... 50c, $1?

Maybe $3?
From where I sit though, this is just pushing the problem somewhere else. I need to use some sort of bin liner, as I am too lazy to wash out the bin.
So, do I buy more bin liner bags and waste plastic that way, or do I just waste the 15c 're-usable' bags from the supermarket?
As I have mentioned, I would be happy with a choice. One local supermarket charges you 15c for bio bags, and most others charge you 15c for the re-usable, will outlast you, type of bags. The only disadavantage to the bio bags is that they are smaller. If I had that choice, I would take the bio bags, use them in my bins, and be content that I am making all the Prius owners less angry.
I understand exactly where you're coming from FN, if the price went up to where it would be more cost effective to buy bin liners then people would simply buy a box/roll of bin liners to leave in their car to take into the IGA and grab their groceries ![]()

Maybe it was the big supermarkets which sneakily pushed for single use bags to be phased out. They were the ones paying for the single use bags and now they can sell their bags. Why not use sustainable paper bags or biodegradable bags if the reason was environmental? I don't see how the new bags are any better for the environment when they too will most likely end up in landfill, if anything they are probably worse for the environment.
In our house we always reused the single use bags before using them as bin liners but now we have to buy bin bags.
All they are doing is making more plastic to get rid of all the plastic.
The new bags are still every bit of an environmental hazard as the old ones but there's just less of them now, that's the benefit. If you put it in terms of basic economics, if you place a higher value on something less will be demanded.
