Morning everyone...
I am hoping that those of you that are a bit in front of me with their retirement plans can help. I am looking for a financial advisor who specialises in retirement funding planning, to review our current and future financial position - preferably someone based in Perth. Basically, I have what I think is a decent super balance, and enough 'emergency funds' in cash to carry us for 6+ months. What I am seeking is someone who can do a thorough review of our current and future funds, as well as some different scenario 'stress test' to cover for unforeseen world events - like Trump effing the world markets, another GFC, increases in inflation and larger increases to the cost of living over the next 20-30yrs. I'm not looking for free advice, I am happy to pay for the service. Also thinking of going to see more than one advisor to get different opinions.

Thanks in advance.

That's going to be very hard with the unpredictability of Trump, the uncertainty of the energy transition, and the effects of climate change on the general financial situation.

Do you work for the ABC? That is some mighty fine fear mongering. No shortage of it amongst these forums.
I know many will not accept this (and stay poor and complaining) , but if you're not able to retire early, it's not Trump's fault. Quite the opposite IMO. If you want to retire early, turn off the TV, put down the propaganda rag and LEARN FROM THE WEALTHY INSTEAD OF COMPLAINING ABOUT THEM.

Why pay someone?

I taught myself using deepseek and chatgpt. Just ask it questions about the most tax efficient way to do x. There are privacy concerns. But just say asking for a friend.

I'm serious. AI is a fabulous teacher for getting a grasp on topics you might only have a vague idea about.

Superannuation is a good free kick, take advantage of it and put in as much as you can.

Thanks - I am doing a bit of both. Currently doing some research on-line and via (Australian) financial advisors on YT. But still a bit keen on getting a professional assessment. Peace of mind as you don't know what you don't know...

Certainly not meant to be fear mongering.
We live in uncertain times, to think you can go on, business as usual with impunity, could get you very disappointed.
Trying to pick the optimum path, isn't easy. All I'm really saying, if you're looking for a professional, make sure you pick somebody that knows what they are doing.
Many years ago, we went to an "ethical financial advisor". He thought investing in a new coal mine would be a good thing.

No harm in using freely available tools to get a handle on it. Of course check everything AI tells you. But in my experience AI has been equivalent to maybe a mid trained advisor and offers explanations that you can cross reference.

Skim through a couple of books, barefoot investor is an easy read to flick through. It's all just common sense.

Financial advisors (FA) will be redundant in a couple of years.

Don't put your trust In FA's. Remember, they make a living out of uneducated people, like you and me and get money from kickbacks by referrals to products you probably don't need.

I started my AI question with:

"If I am 52yo and have x amount in superannuation in Australia that earns on average 8% how long will it take before I run out of money if I withdraw $4000 per month. I'm asking for a friend."

From that point I started asking more complex questions, and learnt how to become an FA myself

Don't waste money on FAs, better off to buy some Ethereum with what you are planning to invest on them.

I've heard good things about Profusion Planning and Nick Bruining. But that was from people in GESB.

Personally I haven't used one, I went to a bunch of retirement/superannuation seminars and took notes. My wife and I didn't like the advisors telling us how to live out lives to accumulate money.

The great thing about retirement and being old is that you get a whole new set of immunisations for free, if you want them.
Put another way, you get to join the antique vaxxers

I agree, time is more valuable than money, I could work another 15 years, probably build some substantial wealth given my current base.

I have enough to sustain the lifestyle I want now so why waste the time for a bit of extra money.

I do want to leave a little boost for my kids when I go so I wont spend my base, just live of the revenue it creates which is modest, hopefully the lefty socialist types dont make passing money to loved ones impossible down the track.

First up, fees. This is an easy one as you can sort it yourself. Paying 1-2% fees on a small balance isn't dire, but when you're closing on retirement with a large balance the fees can be huge.Personally I have moved my super to an indexed defensive fund, it's cheap 0.05% and returned 6.2% YTD, quite enough to live on and give piece of mind.

Could be the one post you've made in the thirty year history of Seabreeze that I'd agree with
