If we have problems with an excess of electricity we could use it to manufacture end products that require a lot of electricity during processing. There are a lot of electrochemical reactions/ industrial processes that use electricity. Like aluminum/zink processing and maybe many others that could be switched ON or OFF on demand.
You could design purpose-made mineral processing plants that will use electricity at peak low ( when even electric companies refuse to buy your electric current) Such conversion into add on value product may have more sense than convert electric energy into hydrogen that need to be later converted back into electric energy.
Hydrogen is super expensive and energy consuming to create, wouldn't it be more effective just to put the solar directly into the grid?
